Chapter 27 - Plan with Jack Daniels

576 Words
Derrick’s POV   I spent the rest of the day working from home, I didn’t have the strength to deal with office mayhem and I found that I didn’t have the strength to put on a suit and necktie, I had called Alfred to bring all the files that needed my attention, he had inquired if I was feeling okay or if I needed any help, I had told him that I was fine and that I just didn’t feel like going to the office today,   Working kept me from thinking about everything, I read through proposals and signed countless documents, then I had meetings via zoom, it was well into the day when I finally finished up, I shut down my laptop and stretched out, I was tired, I hadn’t had anything to eat all day, I hadn’t realized I was hungry until I was done working, I glanced at the wall clock in my room, it was getting to 6pm, I had no idea so much time had passed, I wanted to eat something but I didn’t have the strength to go to the dining room because I might end up running into mum and I didn’t have the energy to engage in a battle of words and wit with her,     I exhaled deeply, it was time like this, I really wished that I had friends, I could go out and have drinks and just have a laugh about random things, I had never being close to anyone, I always had one thing or the other to do at some point in my life,   “What a sad and lonely life it turned out to be” I said to myself and stood from the chair where I had been working,   I walked over to my walk in closet, I pulled the door open and walked in, if I didn’t have any friends to go out for drinks with, then I could just go out alone, I hated the fact that I had to change the comfortable clothes I was currently wearing, the Ash cotton shirt and black sweat pants I was wearing were so comfortable, it had been a while since I was so casually dressed for the whole day, sometimes the starched shirts and the well cut suits could get tiring,     I leafed through a lot of shirts until I finally came across a white long sleeved cotton shirt, it was light and soft, I didn’t need anything heavy, I just wanted something casual, I removed it from the hanger and went over to the pant section, I found a dark jean trouser, how long had it been since I last wore jeans, then I finally, I chose a pair of black sneakers from my collections of shoes, finally I grabbed a jacket and a baseball hat,     I quickly finished changing my clothes, I grabbed my car keys from the table and headed out,     Tonight I was going to get completely drunk and wasted then tomorrow, I will face the real world again but for tonight, I will forget about the world and just be a little reckless.     With a rakish smile on my face, a smile that held the promise of a night filled with reckless abandon, I walked out of room and headed towards the busy streets of New York City.
