The New Boy

It was a rainy Monday, and the streets were all wet with raindrops. Charlotte Peters had already set her alarm beforehand, for she had woken up around 5 am to take her bath and quickly prepare for her new school. She was the only transfer junior girl from her old school who was privileged to be awarded a scholarship to a rich kids' high school. It was a dream come true for Charlotte. She had been dreaming of studying at a unique international high school. Luckily, she passed the Junior West African examinations and emerged as the highest winner to pass the examinations, which made her get promoted to Unique International High School for the completion of her high school certificate. "Charlotte Charlotte!" shouted her mother impatiently from the sitting room "Mummy! Am coming outside now!" replied Charlotte abruptly, adjusting her school uniform at the standing mirror "I think it's okay now!" Charlotte thought to herself as she continued adjusting her school uniform in the standing mirror "Come here fast and collect your food money." said her mother hurriedly "Okay, Mom!" replied Charlotte. She quickly left her room and rushed outside to collect the money from her mother's hand. Finally, Charlotte was already in her school, she was looking beautiful and calm, and she was already in her second year of studying at her new school. Charlotte was sitting down amicably in her classroom with her other classmates while waiting for their mathematics teacher to come inside. "Hey Charlotte!" said Vivian giggling, she rushed inside and sat down beside her with a huge smile on her face Vivian Andrew was Charlotte's seatmate, the only best friend Charlotte had in the new school. Vivian was from a wealthy family, cool, friendly, and down-to-earth. Charlotte met her on her first day at school. Everyone was bullying Charlotte because she was a transfer student except for Vivian Andrew. She stood up for herself and faced the students squarely; ever since then, no one has ever bullied her again. Vivian Andrew was just like a queen in a unique international school, everyone knew her in the school because of her parents' wealth and fame but Vivian wasn't as intelligent as Charlotte but she was a queen in her own pace "Hi Vivian, how are you doing today?" asked Charlotte cheerfully "I'm a good girl. We're having a test today hope you're aware?" said Vivian abruptly "Yes girl." smiled Charlotte "I trust you, remember you'll teach me, Charlotte?" said Vivian looking up at her expectantly "No problem but I've told you to read and study your book Viv," replied Charlotte jokingly "I already said reading school books is not my thing. I dozed up anytime I pick up a book to read." chuckled Vivian and Charlotte laughed Charlotte was a bright and intelligent girl, she was given a scholarship because she was the only girl who scored greatly at her former junior school examinations and she had sworn to keep the position till the completion of her high school "Settled down class!" shouted the mathematics teacher Everyone was silent immediately and they faced the mathematics teacher an intently manner "Today we're having ng math test, I hope you're all prepared?" asked the math teacher looking at the students earnestly "Yes sir." replied everyone instantly "Good!" said the teacher softly The maths teacher faced the whiteboard and started writing their tests on it. After some minutes, the students were already through with their math test. "Alright, class, your scores will be given in the next hour," the maths teacher excused the class immediately. "Charlotte, thanks girl. I hope I passed the maths test, this time around," said Vivian smiling face "You're welcome," replied Charlotte softly "The literature teacher is here Charlotte," said Vivian, whispering "Ohh!" replied Charlotte quietly "We're having a test this morning hope you are all aware class?" entered the literature teacher, smiling at the students "Yes ma'am!" replied students happily "Good let's start now." The literature teacher turned to the board and started writing on the whiteboard After some hours, the students were already through with their tests. The literature teacher had left the classroom, while the class prefect ran inside the classroom panting "Class. These are your results I'm asked to paste them on the notice board." announced the class prefect, panting for breath Everyone quickly rushed to the board, to check their results "Whoa Whoa! The new girl again, 97!" exclaimed Samson, looking at Charlotte's mouth wide open. Samson scored 65, which is in 3rd position. He was always in second position before Charlotte came to their school. Everything had changed. Samson was now in third position, while Princess, who was always at the top of the class, was now in second position. "I hate this!" hissed Princess and walked away angrily from their midst "I hate it too." agreed Samson and walked away too furiously "Charlotte you have the highest score!" screamed Vivian happily "Thanks, girl, you're among the 10th lucky ones too Viv," said Charlotte gladly "Really?" asked Vivian eyes widened. "Yes girl!" replied Charlotte smiling "Let me check!" Vivian checked her name from the ten roll, and she scored 50, which is 7th position! "What! I'm in 7th position!" shouted Vivian, jumping up excitedly "Yes girl you tried." smiled Charlotte Vivian hugged Charlotte happily. It was her first time being among the first ten in a row; she was jumping and at the same time clasping hands, and the other students were looking at the two girls gossiping. "Uhmn she's now among the top he ten roll!" said the first girl bright red face "Don't mind her, who didn't know it was Charlotte that taught her!" said the second girl eyeing Vivian from afar "And she's happy she cheated! What a drama queen!" growled the first girl The school had already closed for the day, Charlotte was heading home and Vivian shouted her name far away suddenly "Charlotte are you going home now?" asked Vivian softly "Yes and you?" replied Charlotte and walking towards her "I'm waiting for my driver, though. Let's go home together, Charlotte. Will you?" said Vivian, looking at Charlotte eagerly. Vivian knew Charlotte usually rushed home anytime school closed, but she had never visited Vivian's house. Charlotte always rushed home after school closing to clean the house and water the plants because her mom is always busy in the shop with her immediate sister. Her mother sells food in the market and comes home late around 11pm. By then Charlotte would have slept off and couldn't eat enough food before sleeping for the night. Her father was not supportive in the family, he always spent the money he got from his dry cleaning job to bet around. Charlotte only had two elder sisters, the first daughter had already gotten married. "I have to do some cleaning when I get home Vivian," said Charlotte biting her bottom lip "That won't take time please," said Vivian pleading Luckily for her, Vivian's driver was already honking the car at his arrival and he shouted her name softly "Miss Vivian!" shouted the driver politely from the car "I'm coming Mr. Philip!" replied Vivian rolling her eyes and turned to Charlotte "Let's go please," said Vivian tapping her hands "Alright!" said Charlotte finally, "Thanks, girl!" replied Vivian clasping hands, she took her hands gently and they left the place "Okay let's go." Charlotte didn't have any other choice but to follow Vivian's home. She could see the bright smile on Vivian's face. Finally, they got to Vivian's house. It was a magnificent house, looking extraordinarily beautiful, with different chefs at their disposal. "These people are super rich," thought Charlotte inwardly to herself, mouth wide open. Vivian pressed the doorbell bell and someone came to open the door "Welcome, ma'am!" said the housekeeper, politely. She opened the door wide firmly for both of them to come in. "Thanks, Miss Rose," said Vivian, smiling happily. She held Charlotte's hands softly, and they both entered the sitting room like twin baby dolls. "Wow your house is beautiful!" admitted Charlotte fascinated by the whole room "Thanks, girl." Vivian dropped her school bag on the floor and turned to the young maid "Can I have two glasses of lemon juice?" asked Vivian softly "Okay, ma'am." The maid quickly entered the kitchen to get the soft drinks "Welcome to my house Charlotte," said Vivian happily and Charlotte followed her home finally "Thank you. I like your house girl," said Charlotte eyes wide open "Let's go to my room. I need to show you something," said Vivian smiling face "Okay," replied Charlotte happily Vivian's room was decorated in pink and white. It was looking like a Cinderella's room "Whoa whoa this is beautiful!" said Charlotte fascinated, looking at the bedroom and the bookshelf decorated "This looks like one of the cartoon movies I watched," added Charlotte grinning "Thank you," replied Vivian cheerfully Someone was knocking at the door gently "Yes come in," said Vivian, she turned sideways opposite the door "Here are the soft drinks ma'am." said the maid, she carefully placed them on the table "Thanks, what's for lunch Miriam?" asked Vivian quickly, before the maid could step out from the room. "It's yams and egg ma'am," replied Miriam politely "Okay, bring it here, make it two plates please," said Vivian smiling "Okay ma'am," replied Miriam and she left the room "You said you don't like reading what are all these novels doing here Viv?" asked Charlotte looking at her surprisedly and she collected the lemon juice from Vivian's hands gently "Ohh I like reading storybooks, not school books duh." chuckled Vivian "I see, naughty girl," said Charlotte laughing and she placed the juice back on the table "Do you like reading stories too?" asked Vivian suddenly "Yes! Most especially the exciting one," replied Charlotte, grinning, and Vivian was fascinated.
