{Amari’s P.O.V} *Slap* “Keep your f*****g eyes off of my mate b***h!” A she-wolf screamed at me. Nothing like slapjacks for breakfast. I had to stop myself from laughing at that weak ass slap. It’s 7:30 in the morning and I have already managed to piss off 20 pack members, not that I care. My name is Amari, just Amari. I don’t remember my last name, assuming I had one. I don’t remember my parents or anything about my childhood. I don’t even remember my birthday. All I know is this is my life, whether I like it or not like. I live at the Red Moon Pack which is led by Alpha Baron Donavon and Luna Lisa Donavon. I despise them. They’re horrible leaders who can’t even raise their kids right, let alone a pack. Their son Lance, the future Alpha of Red Moon Pack, was a selfish, narcissistic, asshole. I never had a run in with him but word gets around. And Brianna? A flat out b*tch. I was so lost in my thoughts that I had almost forgotten about the she-wolf standing before me. “I said get away from my mate!” She raised her hand up and swung but before she could make contact I caught it. “That would end very badly for you,” I told her as I started to squeeze her wrist. I knew if the Alpha or Luna saw me I’d be in big trouble, but I didn’t care. The she-wolf whimpered as she tried to get free of my grasp. Just then I heard a loud voice. I turned my head, it was Alpha Baron. “AMARI!” I let the she-wolf’s wrist go and she dropped to the floor clutching it. She looked at me with hate in her eyes before running off. “How dare you put your hands on a pack member! You know the rules, no dinner for you!” I just looked at him. “Honey why did we keep her again? She’s been nothing but trouble,” says Luna Lisa. Honestly I don’t even know why she speaks sometimes. “You keep me because no one in this damn house can cook, clean, or get off their lazy ass for more than 1 minute to do anything,” I said with irritation in my voice. *Slap* That earned me a slap from the Luna. “You little b***h!” She lunged towards me but Alpha Baron stopped her. “AMARI! GO DO YOUR CHORES!” The Alpha boomed at me. I rolled my eyes and walked away. They knew it was true. They need me. I head to my room which was really the attic but still, it was mines. I climbed the 3 flights of stairs and finally reached the attic. I opened the door and the smell of mold hit me harder than a truck. In a corner on the right side of my room was a cot and a blanket I made for myself out of clothes the pack members threw out. And on the left side of my room there was a desk with paper, pencils, a planner, and a wobbly stool. I headed over to the desk. I balanced myself on the stool and opened my planner. It's February 13th, the day before Valentines Day. Ah, Valentines Day. I hate Valentines Day. Maybe because I’ve never had one or because I’m jealous of the people that do, it’s just not my cup of tea. Every year Alpha Baron throws a huge Valentines Day party as a chance for unmated wolves to potentially find their mate. Alpha Baron put me in charge of sending out the invitations. Sucks to be me. I don't know how they plan on throwing a party that big in so little time. I go over the list of packs to invite. There were over a dozen, 15 to be exact. Alphas, their Betas, and the unmated wolves in the pack will be attending. That means that I had to serve and wait on a little over 500 wolves. I sighed at the thought. I wanted to get it off my mind so I thought about the two things I had to look forward to, my wolf and my mate. My wolf will come on my birthday. I’ll finally be 18 and I’ll know the day I was born on. And my mate, I hope he will be everything I could possibly imagine. I’m no damsel in distress, but it would be nice to meet my Prince Charming. To start a new life and be free of this pack. The thought of finding my mate instantly put my mind at ease. I finished up with the invitations, went downstairs, and put them in the mail basket. After I dropped the invitations off I decided to start dinner. It was a lot cooking for over 30 people but after so many years I’ve gotten used to it. I’ve decided to make meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables. I get started on the meatloaf by whipping up the ingredients into a big metal bowl. Then I get some loaf pans and throw them in the oven. While that’s cooking I put some mixed vegetables on and started the mash potatoes. About an hour goes by and everything is finished. I line up the trays and pans on a white table in the living room and just in time because pack members start to come in. I head back to the kitchen and wait for everyone to finish eating. Literally less than a year Amari, I thought to myself. Soon you’ll be able to leave this hell hole. I was lost in my thought, until I smelled a familiar scent. Oh great, I said to myself. I instantly became irritated. “Hello whatever your name is,” said the she-wolf from earlier as she turned the corner. “Remember me?” She smirked. “Unfortunately,” I sighed. “What do you want?” “I want an apology,” she said with the most serious face. “An apology?” I couldn’t help it, I burst out laughing. “Why are you laughing?!” “Because you’re hilarious! You think I’m going to apologize to you? You slapped ME! What? Did I squeeze your wrist too hard? Awwwwn poor baby”, I spat in her face. I stepped closer to her, so close that our foreheads were almost touching. “Get the f**k out of my face you stubborn entitled b***h,” I told her. I was expecting another slap or at least a scream, but what she did next was not what I was expecting. “Okay,” she said in a nonchalant tone. I shrugged it off and began to start on the dishes that were piled up in the sink. What was that about? I put it out of my mind, no point of thinking about it anymore. As the pack members started finishing up their food the dishes began to pile up. Lucky me. I finished them with no complaints, at least none out loud and put them away. Well, that’s done. I move on to clean the living room. I swept, mopped, and cleaned off the dining table. As I go over to the meal table I notice there were a few slices of meatloaf left. I was shocked, there were never any leftovers. I stood there debating on if I should take it or not. What if this is a setup? I thought to myself thinking of the she-wolf’s words from earlier. My stomach growled, I haven’t eaten in days. I looked around and grabbed the pan. I decided to put it in the oven and take it to my room after I finished cleaning. I hurriedly finished cleaning and took the pan up to my room. When I closed the door I let out a sigh of relief. I made it unnoticed, yes! I went to my desk and sat down. As soon as I did I dug into the food before me. It was amazing. I’ve tasted my cooking before and it was great, but never my meatloaf. I let out moans of pleasure. I reached down to grab another piece but nothing was there. I looked down and it was all gone. A tear fell down my cheek, and before I knew it I was balling my eyes out. That was my first time eating that much food in a long time. It wasn’t fair. Why did I have to live like this? What have I done to deserve this? I got up and stared out the little window in my room. “I don’t know what you have in store for me. I don’t know if this will end anytime soon. But, I guess I’ll just have to trust you,” I said to the Moon Goddess. Sometimes I feel like she’s the only one I can talk to. I go over to my cot and lay down. I hoped that tomorrow would be better. {Lance’s P.O.V} I was in my room looking up at the ceiling, lost in my thoughts. I couldn’t stop thinking about when I became alpha. All the changes I would make. I hate how my parents ran this pack. I hate that I’m related to murderers. I hate how they treat people. And most of all, I hate how they treat my mate, Amari. I knew she was my mate the moment I got my wolf. It was my 18th birthday. My parents threw a big bash for me hoping that I would find my mate. I did, I found her. *Flashback* “Happy birthday my beloved!” My mom burst into my room screaming at me. “Mom it’s just a birthday relax,” I wasn’t really a fan of birthdays. “How can I relax when my baby is finally all grown up! I thought you’d be more excited, are you okay?” She asked in a genuine tone. I looked up at her and saw worry on her face. “Yea mom I’m fine. I’m just overwhelmed. 18th birthday. Potentially finding my mate. Finally getting my wolf.” That was the only part I was looking forward to. Wow, I’d have my own wolf. Someone to talk to. Goddess I hope he isn’t an asshole. If he’s anything like me then I think we’ll get along. A small smile spread across my face. “See? I knew you were excited. You’re always trying to be a grump, hurry downstairs breakfast is almost ready!” Honestly I just wanted to wait in my room until my wolf came. But my mom was excited and I couldn’t ruin my birthday for her. I shook my head at how crazy that sounded. I got up and went to my dresser. On it was a note and some clothes neatly folded. “Happy birthday Lancey! I figured we could match so I picked out your outfit! Sincerely Diane,” I threw the note to the side and looked at the outfit. It was a purple shirt with hearts on it and some tight ass jeans. There is no way I’m wearing that. I picked up the clothes and tossed them in my laundry basket. A simple white tee and jeans that actually fit would do just fine. Once I finished getting dressed I headed downstairs. It was 8 in the morning and there were only a few people in the pack house. Everyone else was probably getting ready or setting up for the party. I sighed. I hate parties. Every year mom would throw a party that was bigger than the last. As I got closer to the kitchen I got a whiff of this amazing smell. It smelled like cinnamon rolls. I guess we were having them for breakfast. I finally made it to the kitchen but when I got there the smell was gone. Weird. I made my plate which consisted of waffles, eggs, bacon, grits, fruit, and I grabbed a glass of orange juice. I ate my food, thinking about that amazing smell from earlier, then I heard a voice. “Lancey!” Oh great, my girlfriend. “Happy birthday to you!” She sang to me with that goddess awful voice. “Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Lancey...happy birthday to you!” She smiled and giggled, I wasn’t amused. I forced a smile. “Thanks babe,” I said in the nicest voice I could muster. She looked me up and down and frowned, then she crossed her arms. “Why aren’t you wearing the outfit I picked out for you?” She looked at me waiting for an answer but I didn’t have one. I had to say something quick. “I didn’t see it D,” I lied. “It was on your dresser how could you not see it?” She pouted and sighed. “It’s okay I’ll find it,” she perked back up. “I love you babe,” she stared at me waiting for my response. “I love you too babe,” I said quietly. She smiled and did that annoying ass giggle, kissed my cheek, and ran off. I hate lying. I hate pretending. But I didn’t have a choice. Me and Diane were engaged. We have been ever since we were 3. I’m a few months older than her so really since she was 2 and I was 3 but still. I leaned my head back and thought about this forced arranged marriage. I wanted to call it off but I couldn’t, not if my father had anything to say about it. That’s f****d up bro. Who’s this? I’m your wolf, Mason. Mason? That’s my name don’t wear it out. So you got jokes, haha. Wait until you hear the ones I have about you. I sighed, I knew my wolf would be an asshole. I’m not an asshole, just playful. I know how you feel. I know everything you’re going through. I will be here for you. You will never be alone. I started to tear up at his words. “Thanks man. I appreciate that.” No problem, now cheer up it’s our birthday. I completely forgot. It’s not just my birthday anymore. It’s Mason’s too. That gave me more motivation to get through this day. I head to the kitchen to wash my dish, I hate putting everything off on the pack workers. I head up the stairs to my room but before I could reach my door I spelled that amazing scent again, cinnamon buns. This time I was going to find were it was coming from. Mate. What? Mate! I couldn’t believe what Mason said. Our mate? Here? So close?! I followed the scent up another flight of stairs that I had never went up before. The attic. My father told me to never come up here as a child but I didn’t think much of it since I had no reason to. Mate! Mate! I was starting to become nervous. I had never really put too much thought into finding my mate, I never thought it would happen. I twisted the knob and opened the door. When I did the smell of cinnamon buns hit me harder than a truck. I scanned the room and there she was, sitting at an old splintered desk. The most beautiful women I had ever seen in my entire life. My mate. “May I help you?” *Flashback Ends*
