I sighed. Thinking about it made my heart ache. I wanted to be with her. I wanted to claim her. I wanted to tell her how beautiful she was. I wanted to kiss every part of her body as if I’d never have the chance to again. I wanted to make love to her and caress her skin. I wanted to protect her. But I couldn’t. For as long as I'm a part of this family, me and Amari can never be together. Once she finds out the truth I'll have to reject her. I put my hands over my face and groaned. I rolled out of bed and threw the shirt I had on the floor. I needed to get Amari off of my mind so I decided to shift into my wolf. I put on some shorts and grabbed a change of clothes, some snacks, and a few bottles of water before dashing out the door. I ran until I could no longer hear the voices of pack members. Once I no longer heard the commotion of the packhouse I stopped. I was in the woods where some of the pack members ran. I wanted to be farther to avoid the risk of being bothered so I ran until I was sure no one would find me. When I stopped I was in a field of beautiful flowers. I saw daisies, roses, tulips, and at least 100 other flowers I had never seen before. What a weird mix of flowers. Everything seemed to be growing in random placess. No flower outshines the other, they're all flourishing. They get to be who they are with whoever. I closed my eyes. The scent of fresh flowers filled my nose, and for the first time in a while I felt at peace. I placed my things down by a nearby tree and began to undress. Once I finished I shifted into my wolf and let him take control. Mason ran around and rolled to his heart's content. We found a nearby pond and drank from it to quench our thirst. I could be out here all day. We began to run around again, pushing our limits. Hours must have passed because the sun was starting to set. I headed back to the tree and shifted back, still naked I gobbled down the snacks and water I brought. After those much needed refreshments, I shifted into Mason so we could head back home. I picked the clothes up and sprinted in the direction of home. After I was about halfway home I decided to walk the rest of the way. I was in no rush to be back at the packhouse. I continued walking for a few minutes when suddenly, I smelled cinnamon buns. Mason lit up as the smell surrounded us. He was so happy to be so close to his mate. He jumped up and down and wagged his tail. But that soon came to a stop when the smell of blood also started to surround us. Filled with fear and anger I dashed in the direction the scent was coming from. When I finally made it I saw a naked unconscious Amari, on the ground, covered with blood, cuts, and bruises. The sight I saw before me was horrifying.
"WHO WOULD DO THIS TO OUR MATE!" Mason boomed. I winced at his thunderous Alpha tone.
"I don't know, but whoever did this is gonna get this 10X worse," I say to Mason.
I shifted back and got dressed so I could check on her to see how badly she'd been hurt. I put my head to her chest, I gave a small sigh of relief when I was able to hear her heart beat. She was still breathing, but not for long if I didn't get her some help. I took my shirt out and slowly put it on Amari, she was so small that it covered her nicely. I gently scooped her up in my arms. I couldn’t take her to the packhouse, they'd never help her. I decided to go to my best friend. He was from a neighboring pack not too far from ours. His father, who is the alpha, treats me like his son. I know they'd help me. I held Amari close and started to run as fast as I could. I was not letting my mate die. I looked up at the moon and whispered a small prayer to the moon Goddess.
"Please protect my mate. Bring her to full health and heal her. And please let me find whoever is responsible for hurting her, and may they suffer tenfold," looking at the position of the moon I noticed it was past midnight, Valentine's Day.
"Happy Valentine's Day Mate."
