Nelly opened the door and froze when she saw Adel and Naomi standing before her. Shock and astonishment washed over her face.
Adel lowered his eyes, unable to face her. Nelly looked at Naomi, and Naomi, too, dropped her gaze, carrying the same weight of guilt Adel bore.
Nelly said, her voice trembling with rage:
“Adel… Naomi… you traitors. How could your heart allow you, Naomi, to abandon your friend in a town where she knows no one? And you, Adel—how could you leave your wife while she is carrying your child, in this state?”
Naomi looked at Nelly sharply, as if silently screaming: You’re lying, Nelly. It’s not his child.
Nelly could not endure facing Naomi. She turned away and went into her room.
Adel and Naomi entered the apartment, brought the suitcases inside, and closed the door
