Chapter 27
The evening bell rang while they were still standing near the statue. The sound rolled across the castle grounds, echoing from tower to tower before fading into the night. Almost immediately the castle seemed to wake around them. Lanterns flickered to life along upper walkways. Servants appeared carrying trays toward the dining hall. Somewhere beyond the courtyard walls, voices rose and fell as people abandoned work for the evening meal. Neither Lexi nor Rhaegar moved. At least not at first. Eventually Rhaegar glanced toward the archway leading back into the castle. "If we stay here much longer, someone will come looking for us." Lexi looked around the nearly empty courtyard.
