Chapter Two: After the Cave

1085 Words
I haven’t heard from Celeste in days She usually calls by now regardless if she’s too angry to come home or not. Something was definitely wrong this time. I was about to wake up Jordan, but my phone was ringing from a number I did not recognize. “Hello?” “Hello, my precious monster slayer,” I recognized that sleezy voice anywhere. “How is life treating you these days?” “How on earth did you get my number?” “Well… I was going to hound your brother for it, but then a pretty blued blonde was walking down your driveway a few days ago and I just had to take the opportunity set before me.” My heart stopped as I heard Celeste sobbing in the background. “If you hurt her I swear-” “Relax, sweetheart, I would never dream of laying a hand on your beloved wife to be… as long as you give me what I want.” “And what would that be exactly?” “Your head on a platter of course. We are going to fight during a match in about five hours. I expect to see you in my part of town by then.” “Oh, I will definitely be there. Just in time to remove your head myself in record’s time.” “You shouldn’t be so cocky, it’s not a good look on you. We’ll both see soon enough, dear.” At those last words he hung up. I nearly crushed the phone in half by just that phone call alone. But, there was no time for that now. I had to gather all of my best weapons and fry this son of a b***h once and for all. “Who were you talking to?” I turned around to see Jordan chewing on a bagel. I hated to do this to him so early… but before I could say anything it was as if my face gave it all away. He threw the bagel over his shoulder and took a few steps toward me. “What's wrong?” “It’s Lamar, he has Celeste.” “Not for long he won’t. We will get her back. I’m assuming He wants to meet?” “In five hours.” “Ok, let’s get ready and make a plan then…. Justice and Peter can set up position in the bushes down there just in case he tries something slimy.” “Wait,” I tugged on his arm before he could pull out his phone, “with Celeste being involved in this I don’t want to risk your guys being exposed by Lamar and her being killed anyway.” “Hayden,” his face softened, “I give you my word, they will not be in plain sight. Just close enough to keep a watch on things but far enough so Lamar and his crowd do not suspect anything.” “What about Lucinda?” “I doubt that he will want his sister at a fight he beckoned you to.” “You don’t know that. Up until now he has been very predictable. Him taking Celeste is something not even I expected him to do, but he did. We need to be careful here.” “And we will.” He gave me this solemn look, I saw that when he was swearing on his life about something. “We will not do anything that is outside of the plan. I took a deep breath. “What is the plan exactly?” “To only keep a watch on things. We will only intervene if you give us the okay to do so. Justice and a few of his men will hold off Lamar and Lucinda if she’s there, while Peter and two of his men swoop in and grab Celeste and bring her back safely.” “What if we’re blindsided?” I will do everything in my power to prevent that from hapenning. But if it does we will fight off whatever comes towards us.” Lamar will probaby have a dozen men at his side waiting to jump in.” “That's why we’ll have three dozen.” He smiled, “I know how sleezy he is. I’ll even double that if it eases your nerves.” “That would help… probably should make some calls so we do have an army to back us up.” He nodded as he pulled out his phone and dialed a number. Peter’s voice was so loud I could hear him on the other end. “Hey, Peter, I need a favor.” “Jordan? You sound riled up, did something happen?” “You could say that… It’s Lamar, he took Celeste and wants Hayden to meet with him in about four hours to fight him to her death.” “To his death, you mean? There’s no way in hell I’d let that bastard win like that. How many men should I gather up?” “Four dozen, and we need to be smart about this one. Hayden’s afraid we’ll cost Celeste her life if we make any sudden movements.” “Not a problem, man, I’m not an animal. I’m assuming this is by Lamar’s field that’s fifty yards from his palace?” “That’s the one. But be cautious, there’s this giant ten foot worm I keep hearing that Lamar’s been training for something special.” “Alright, don’t worry, I will keep an eye out.” “Remember, four hours.” “We’ll be there and keep you covered.” *** Two Hours to spare. “Ok, we have to get going if we’re going to make it in time.” I grabbed Jordan’s arm before he could reach the door. “Jordan, you can’t walk by my side when we get there.” “What do you expect me to do? If you go in there alone He’s going to think you’re vulnerable.” “At least tone down on the weapons. You have three shotguns on your back.” “These are not just any shotguns. They’re loaded with custom made demon acid that will melt that son of a b***h’s skin on sight.” “But,” he held up his hands before I said anything, “That's why I have two hand guns plastered to my chest vest.” “That’s better.” I chuckled. “Let’s go.” ***
