Laura blinked constantly, several thoughts pushing through her head as her gaze lingered on Ethan. Was that why he had numerous scars and a terrifying tattoo on his back? She suddenly felt dizzy, her knees going weak. She demanded an explanation, wanting to understand what the hell was going on, but Ethan pushed her arms away, “Don't be ridiculous.” He said nonchalantly, his hands clenched in fists, “even if I recovered my memory, I'd never be someone as important as the Commander.” Ethan's words were meant to sound convincing, but Laura wasn't buying it. She swallowed hard, rubbing her sweaty palms on her dress, “You still remember nothing?” Ethan nodded, averting his gaze to stare at the beautiful painting on the wall. It was a white eagle flying above the tip of a mountain. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips as a faint memory pushed through his head. He'd always loved eagles because they symbolized strength. Never for once had they shown a sign of weakness, and as much as Ethan spent his whole life on track like an eagle, he couldn't believe his downfall was a woman—his fiancee. He sighed out loud, “nothing at all. Like I said earlier, I only remember my name.” “Not even your last name?” Laura furrowed her brows, overwhelmed by his imposing aura. As much as his presence terrified her, she couldn't stay away. She chose not to stay away. His reaction to the news was way too suspicious, like he knew something about the diseased man or he was really the diseased man. While Ethan shook his head again, Laura sighed, talking a few steps towards the round table, “since the news is triggering some unwanted memories, how about we turn it off?” Ethan's eyes widened for a brief moment. He'd expected her to keep pushing, to demand for the truth, but she waved it aside and decided to lay low for a while. Ethan regained his composure, “you're doing way too much.” He was starting to feel irritated. As much as he appreciated Laura's help, it was still hard for him to cope with his resurfaced memories. He recalled how Alessandra, his fiancee, had kissed him, telling him she couldn't wait to spend her whole life with him. Alessandra painted his world with beautiful colors, designed his bland and tasteless world, but she destroyed everything in only a matter of hours. Ethan loved her with his whole life, with every f*****g blood running through his veins. They'd talked about building a family, living in the countryside, travelling across the globe for vacations, but she poisoned him in the end? Ethan's eyes burned. Again. And this time, it was hard to keep the tears in. He clutched the comforter, pushing it aside, “you've done enough, really. I'll take it up from here.” Laura eyed him suspiciously, her hands on each side of her waist, “since you clearly don't remember who you are, I'm responsible for you.” she explained, emphasizing on each world that rolled off her tongue. Laura wasn't a saint, or a life saver who'd risk her life for someone else, but she was particularly drawn to the young man—Ethan. “Miss Peterson, I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting.” a familiar voice pulled Laura from her fantasies, followed by the soft click of the door. Her gaze drifted from Ethan, landing on a fairly old man with slight wrinkles on his face. He had dark eye bags, a symptom of fatigue, but it was quite a normal thing for doctors, right? Laura gave him a small smile, “Mr Mason, you’re just in time.” She gave Ethan a quick glance before turning to the doctor, “I found him drowning, Mason. He appears to have lost his memory. He remembers nothing about himself.” Ethan pushed himself up, his eyes darting between the brunette and the doctor, “I'm fine.” he calmly said, not in the mood to get examined. He had more important things to do—like getting a hold of his new life. He tucked his hands in his pocket, heading towards the door, but Laura's soft chuckle pierced the air as she walked towards him, pulling him backwards, “Mason, you really have to check up on him. Leave my parents out of this.” Mason fixed his stethoscope, his eyes fixed on Ethan, “let's have you checked, shall we? I can tell you've got important things to do, but it'll only take a while.” “A while is important to me as well.” Ethan replied, pulling Laura's fingers from his wrist, “I'll be back in the next few days for the check up, not today.” Laura watched as he headed towards the door and slammed it hard, like the door had tried to murder him once. She turned to the doctor, mouthed a word of apology and ran after Ethan. Finding his familiar raven black hair down the hallway, she sighed in relief, “can you stop acting like a child? You have no idea how much damage the water has caused.” Walking towards the exit of the hospital, Ethan didn't bother to look backwards, “I can take care of myself. I'll handle my problems, handle yours.” Laura bit her lips. She sighed as she made her way towards the exit, but she was stunned to find about three men right beside her car. They were all on baseball hats, their build extremely terrifying, she found her heart in her throat. Ethan's brows were raised in question as well. As much as he wanted to leave the weak woman, he had a gut feeling she was in some kind of trouble. “Do you know who they are?” Laura shook her head, “I don't.” At the same time, a dashing young man approached them, ruffling his ginger red hair with his hands, “there you are.” he smiled, meeting Laura's gaze. He licked his lips hungrily, staring at Laura like a predator who'd just found his prey, “I got a tip from a pretty nurse. Let's go get your wedding dress, shall we?” “George.” Laura whispered, her face paling as she took a few steps backwards, “I'm not coming with you.” Ethan strode towards her, a lazy look in his eyes, “you heard the woman, get the hell out of here. She needs to go home.” George chuckled softly, but it wasn't a sound of humor. He had the habit of giving a soft chuckle once he was near his limit. He tilted his head, “Laura, who's this asshole? Tell him we're engaged.” He then checked his Rolex, “I don't have much time to waste, Laura. Don't test my patience.” Laura remained quiet, knowing she couldn't escape from George without doing something silly. He came prepared with his exceptional bodyguards. Ethan didn't stand a chance, she was going to get kidn*pped and locked away in her home again. She trembled, clutching her sides, “George, I already told you to f**k off. I'm not getting married to someone like you.” She swallowed hard and leaned towards Ethan, “Actually, you came here a little late.” She wrapped her arms around Ethan's neck and gave him a quick kiss, “We just got our marriage registered a few hours ago.”
