Chapter Ten - The Blood Moon

LuCretia “I must talk to the girl’s”

LuCretia rushes out the door hoping to see Karissa and Ashleigh sitting on the floor in the attic. Much to her surprise they were not. LuCretia looked for a way to get a message to the girls. She went back into the library and looked around. Suddenly she sees the answer sitting there on the shelf. The flaming arrow. LuCretia quickly wrote a message to the girls “come to the attic immediately.” LuCretia wrapped the message around the arrow and placed the arrow in the bow. She took her aim at the wall as she chanted these words and let the arrow fly.

LuCretia “cupiam magna cupiam quidem libera haec duo auream”

The arrow hit the wall and went into flames after the flames went out the message had disappeared. The girls came running into the library panicking.

Karissa “grandma what’s wrong?”

LuCretia “good, you girls got my message. There is something on the horizon my sweet girls”

Ashleigh “so this isn’t an emergency?”

LuCretia “yes it is child. Now have a seat and listen both of you”

Karissa and Ashleigh simultaneously “yes grandmother”

LuCretia “tonight is the night of the blood moon”

Ashleigh “I know all about it I was just explaining it to Karissa downstairs”

LuCretia “is that so, alright child then please enlighten us with your knowledge”

Ashleigh “alright, the blood moon is when the moon is full and its red. It is the night that vampires can run wild and free killing and drinking any humans they want”

LuCretia “yes that is partly correct. But that is not all Ashleigh. The night of the blood moon is the night that the blood war continues between vampires and ware wolves. This war has been going on for centuries and this war will not end until one side is completely extinct”

Karissa “okay so what are we supposed to do?”

LuCretia “I need you girls to help me cast a spell on the whole towns water supply”

Ashleigh “what for?”

LuCretia “so that the humans blood will be poisons to vampires”

Karissa “let’s do this”

Ashleigh “I am in”

LuCretia “fantastic let me find the correct incantation. Alright found it”

Ashleigh “ok”

LuCretia, Ashleigh, and Karissa “terra marique ignis spiritus invoco emergere sororum nostrarum ex aquis verbena”

Karissa “how do you know if it worked?”

LuCretia “bring me a glass of water”

Karissa went a got a glass of water for LuCretia. LuCretia took a drink of water n she cud taste the subtle taste of verbena. She grabbed a small vial from the shelf. She put a few drops into the glass of water. The water turned this bright purple.

LuCretia “that’s how we know it worked”

Karissa “sweet that’s awesome”

LuCretia “alright that will keep all the humans safe from the vampires. Tonight, before the moon is at its peak we will have to perform another incantation to put the whole town to sleep so no one gets caught in the crossfire so come straight home after school. Please bring Emma and Hope”

Karissa and Ashleigh “yes grandma, bye see ya later we love you”

LuCretia “goodbye girls I love you”

Ashleigh and Karissa ran off to school. 

            Meanwhile deep in the woods there is an estate known as the Phillips Estate. The Phillips family had lived their for centuries. Even before the founding mothers started the community of Whetstone Valley. The Phillips family are vampires and they had made an agreement with LuCretia and her coven. To only feed on the blood of wild animals. If the agreement were ever broken the coven would have the right to punish the vampire responsible for the murders. However, in return the Phillips family asked that no one ever trespass on their estate. LuCretia and her coven agreed to all the terms as did the Phillips family. Until the night of the first blood moon in Whetstone Valley in the year 1571. On this night, the curse of the blood moon had begun. We will get back to that in a few minutes I want to explain how we got to that night. It started 10 years prior to the night of the first blood moon. A witch from Scotland started hunting a member of the Phillips family. The youngest Phillips boy and his name was Allen Phillips. For years trying to hunt him down and end his reign of terror. He was the worst of them all. He didn’t kill to survive. He killed for sport and fun. The pure joy and thrill he gained from each kill as he watched the life leave each one of his victims eyes. Because of his killing sprees a powerful witch named Clair Maxwell started hunting him. It took Clair a century to finally hunt Allen down to a small town called Whetstone Valley. When she discovered that Allen was not the only vampire in this small town. She knew that just killing the boy wouldn’t keep this town safe. So, she did the only other thing she thought she could do. She designed a curse and cast it on the entire town. Her curse was called the blood moon. One night a year the moon rises drenched in blood making the night sky a crimson red. A small group of people who live down by the river. What the locals call Back River. These people have been cursed as well. But it was a curse they took willingly. Clair originally was only going to curse one family bloodline. Until she realized she needed more than one small family to protect the town. So, she gathered four local families The Peterson Family, The Gray Family, The White Family, and The Mason Family. Each member of each family agreed to the curse. The night of May 19th, 1571 the moon was full, and Clair performed her ritual and cast her curse.

Clair “dea lunae et vocabo in motu dono dare illi plenilunium noctis medici ex urbe praesidio”

        After Clair finished her incantation. The moon ran over in red and each member of the four families bones started cracking and breaking. Their bones were shifting, and hair was growing all over their bodies. They were transforming into something that no one had ever seen before. After hours of their bones cracking and shifting. The transformation was complete. A whole pack of beasts stood before Clair. The beast look like wolves but greater in size. Each beast was 10 times bigger then the largest wolf ever known. The whole pack caught a smell in the air. This smell set a rage through the beast and they took off chasing the scent. Clair tried to follow them. But unlike any other creature in the world. These beasts are faster. The smallest beast of them all stayed behind. It had all white fur with bright blue eyes. It kneeled and allowed Clair to climb on its back. Clair rode on the beasts back to follow the rest of the beasts. Clair was amazed by her creations. She called them the great wolves. She knew now the village was safe to leave. But, only after, she could get her revenge on Allen, for killing her lover. When Clair and the white great wolf caught up with the rest. Clair noticed they were hunting people. At least that’s what she thought until the great wolves attack the people. The people were extra strong and super-fast. That’s when Clair realized they were vampires. Clair came face to face with Allen. Before Clair could cast her incantation Allen ripped Clair’s throat out. The wolves became furious. They all came together and put all their focus on avenging their creator. They chased and hunting him down for many years all over the world. Wolves would go a stray until the whole pack was separated all over the world creating new packs. But one great wolf returned to Whetstone Valley. The white great wolf. Clair didn’t know when she cast her curse that night. She would be creating more great wolves all over the world. Anyone that was looking at the moon that night. As the curse was cast and the blood ran down the moon. Became a great wolf. Over the centuries millions of great wolves joined packs. Creating new family lines of great wolves. The white great wolf was a woman named Lana White. She was the pack leader of the Whetstone Valley great wolves for several decades. She gathered all the stray great wolves in Whetstone Valley and formed a pack as she helped each wolf deal with their new lives. The leader of the Whetstone Valley pack is always the white wolf of the pack. When a new white wolf is born it is trained to be the next leader of the pack.

Back at the Whetstone family house the girls are heading upstairs to the attic to talk to LuCretia.

Ashleigh “grandma we are home”

Karissa “we also brought Emma and Hope”

LuCretia comes out of the library.

LuCretia “good I have the incantation all ready for you girls”

Ashleigh “you’re not casting it with us?”

LuCretia “no I cannot. Because I am not from this time”

Karissa “alright so let’s do this”

Emma and Hope “we are ready”

Ashleigh, Karissa, Emma and, Hope “sepulcro maiorum meorum testor ingenii nocte oppidum ab omnibus mundanis”

Karissa “do you think it worked?”

Ashleigh “lets go see if mom and dad is asleep”

The girl go downstairs and discovers that Mr. Whetstone is asleep, but Mrs. Whetstone is not. The girls go back upstairs to ask LuCretia what went wrong.

Karissa “grandma why did the spell work on dad, but mom is still awake?”

LuCretia “because the spell only works on mundane”

Karissa “what the hell does that mean?”

Ashleigh “mundane are humans anyone who is not apart of the magical community”

LuCretia “that is correct Ashleigh”

Karissa “ok, so now what are we going to do?”

LuCretia “anyone who is part of the magical community knows what today is. They will be preparing for tonight on their own we don’t have to worry about them. However, Karissa and Ashleigh, we will have to deal with your mother. She will try to keep you inside tonight. You cannot stay home. You must help end the feud before the moon is at its peak”

Karissa “alright, what do we do?”

LuCretia “slip this potion into your mother’s drink it will put her to sleep until the morning just like the rest of the town”

Karissa “I got this”

Karissa runs downstairs to talk to her mom so she could slip the potion into her drink. Karissa tries several times to slip the potion into her mother’s tea. But her mother never has her back turned long enough. Karissa gets frustrated and throws her hands up in the air. Suddenly her mother stops moving, and the water stops running from the faucet. Karissa just tapped into her next power. She can control time. So, Karissa hurry’s up and puts the potion into her mothers tea. Just in time too. Time had started again.

Karissa “ok mom I’m going back upstairs with the girl’s”

Nikki “alright sweetie”

Karissa runs upstairs to tell her grandmother about her new power she discovered.

LuCretia “alright someone just stopped time was it any of you?”

Karissa “it was me grandma”

LuCretia “that’s wonderful sweetie you gained a new gift we will work on it tomorrow alright?”

Karissa “ok. Oh I gave mom the potion”

LuCretia “did she drink it”

THUMP

Karissa “I believe she did”

Ashleigh ran down to the middle of the steps and seen her mother asleep on the kitchen floor. She went back upstairs.

Ashleigh “she’s asleep on the kitchen floor”

LuCretia “alright now we wait. Emma and Hope you girls go home your mothers will worry about you”

Emma and Hope go home to be with their families. Karissa and Ashleigh sit waiting in the attic with their grandmother for the moon to reach its peak.

            Meanwhile at The Phillips Estate, The Phillips Family are getting things ready for tonight. Gathering as much wolfsbane as they possibly can. Marie and her husband Wayne are the leaders of the Phillips Family of vampires, or in other words the parents. One of their children is their biological child which is Dean Phillips. Dean was the first one who was changed in the 15th century. When his parents discovered his change, they made the change as well. From the first day of their new lives, they never drank human blood and welcomed any vampire to their family that was willing to live by the same rules. Their number 1 rule never drink human blood. So, over the centuries their small family of three grew. As of today, the family has grown to the number of 408 family members. Each member is given a new name and a role in the family. Some of their family members have joined because of love and others because of illness. But mainly most of them have joined because of their compassion for human life. They want a better life one where they can live among the humans.

            The Phillips Family are all gathering from all around the world. This year for the blood moon the leader of The Phillips Family of vampires Wayne Phillips has devised a whole new plan this year to escape the wolves. So, he gathers his family from all around the world. A few stragglers have just arrived with the last piece of their plan a witch named Brandy. Wayne believes he has found a way to break the curse.

            The great wolves have a way to break the curse and so does the vampires. But, in truth there is only one way to break the curse of the blood moon. And the ritual has to be performed by a descendent of the witch who cast the original curse. Luckily before she went off chasing vampires. She had a daughter named Mariah. Long story short. Mariah and her husband came to the new world. And they had many children. Lana’s oldest child her daughter Victoria married one of the founding mothers’ great grandsons. Mariah is the twins several great grandmother.

            Back at the twins house LuCretia is working on gathering everything the girls need for the ritual and the spell they must cast before the ritual.

LuCretia “the moon is beginning to rise. Girl’s come here you have to perform this ritual before the moon reaches its peak”

Ashleigh and Karissa lights the candles and begin chanting

Ashleigh & Karissa “sanguinem luna sub maledicto sunt Sol et Luna somnos”

Every vampire and every wolf in whetstone valley was put to sleep.

LuCretia “the moon will be at its peak it 35 minutes come girls gather the items and get yourself to the ridge where wolf territory meets the phillips estate. That’s where Your 9th great grandmother Clair cast the curse 470 years ago. You girls must hurry the spell must be completed at the same time the moon reaches its peak”

Ashleigh “alright we are leaving now we will be back”

Karissa and Ashleigh smoked to the site of the original casting of the curse. They placed five candles at each point of the star. Karissa and Ashleigh stand in the middle of the star. They join hands as the chant these words.

Karissa & Ashleigh “ad numen vocant lunae dimittere creaturae sunt ab execratione maledicta congessit”

At the end of the incantation a burst of golden energy shot out from the girls and went straight into the moon changing the moon from red to gold. All the wolves were awakened instantly. The moon no longer controlled their transformation. They could change at will. The vampires awaken and their blood lust was more controllable then ever before. And they now had the ability to walk in sunlight.

            The girls called a meeting between Wayne, Mikael and, the witches.

Ashleigh “welcome leaders, I called this meeting to inform both the vampires and the wolves that we broke your curse. The feud between both of your species is over. Today we will come together and create an alliance between all three factions of people.”

Mikael “I agree”

Wayne “I agree as well”

Karissa “good let’s begin shall we”

The twins and the leaders spent several hours. But a treaty was forged and signed by all parties. Territory was claimed. Everyone has exactly what they want and now there should always be peace.
