Amanda walked down the street with relief written all over her face. On stressful evenings like this all she wanted was to have dinner with her father. She was raised singlehandedly by her father, her mother had ran away when she was two so the memories she had of her were faint. When she grew old enough to understand what it meant to have a mother, she got the conception that her mother was wicked. Why else would she run away leaving behind a two year old? The only thing that puzzled her was why her mother didn't leave with any money or her belongings. She just left. It would've made sense if she left with some money,at least Amanda would understand that she married Mr. Smith for his money. But still,it didn't make sense for her to leave a two year old behind,no letter,no clue for twenty years.
Amanda wasn't concerned about searching for her mother, her father was all she ever needed. He had died some months ago after suffering a strange illness for years. She was glad he was finally at rest but there was this selfish part of her that wanted him alive. But not now that she had lost the necklace.
She walked into to coffee shop by the street. She had had coffee there every evening since her father died. Today she noticed that the tiles were shining more than usual and the manager was wearing an earring and there was a new waiter. He seemed quite familiar, but she didn't think hard about where she had seen him. Perhaps she only noticed him because his eyes were the same colour of blue as her father's.
