It had been three days since Tyler filled out the application, and he had begun to settle into his new life with Anna. She did a lot of talking but at the same time, it felt comforting. Anna was also getting used to having someone else living in the home again and coming to terms with the face that Tyler seemed to be mute. It was Sunday evening, and they both sat down to enjoy dinner together. “I hope your first day of work goes well tomorrow.” Anna stated. “I want to you to know that no matter what, I am here for you. I love you, like my own son.” Anna announced. Tyler looked up to her and smiled, as deep down he began to feel something again, but he was not sure what he was feeling.
The next morning, Tyler started his new job. Word got around quickly that he did not talk and that made him look weird. However, Tyler made it a mission of his to be the best bagger Jasper has ever had.
~6 months later~
Tyler had started getting into the routine of working and having a place to call home, where he felt like he belonged. He started to feel like he was no longer a stranger. Tyler was finding a purpose in life again, signing up for GED classes so that he could finish his high-school education. Tyler had found a passion in cutting hair and wanted to get his cosmetology license but in order to do that, he had to the big diploma. Tyler found this passion one night, when he was looking in the mirror and he was sick of having long hair. He took scissors and started cutting it himself. The next day, Anna noticed his air was shoulder length and asked who cut it, because it looked good! A few days later, Tyler bought a razor and gave him a sorter haircut, with a little length up to, where he used gel to flip the ends up. This style seemed to be popular among most people and Tyler liked it and wanted to try it. Anna complimented him on how amazing it looked and how it transformed how he looked, which boosted his confidence in his hair cutting skills. For the first time in Tyler’s life, he felt like he had meaning in this world and like he could make a difference.
It had now been 8 months since Tyler found himself living with Anna and calling Jasper his home. Tyler had made such positive progress, but the biggest breakthrough was the day he talked…
