Chapter 4A tendril of shadow detached itself from the floor, and slithered up Carl’s leg, wrapping around his foot and calf. Some part of him expected it to be cold and wet, but was warm and dry, almost like soft leather as it took hold. The second shadow came from behind, wrapping around his shoulder and drawing an involuntary gasp from his throat. Another found his thigh, undulating and massaging, and he shook beneath their touch. “I…ahhhhm!” His voice rose into a squeal as his wrists were taken, followed by the sensation of being lifted from the floor. His body sagged into the shadows as they took his weight, and the glyphs became a diffused glow through their translucence.
