Chapter 1: Future
The long-awaited day had finally arrived and Miss Emma was excited to be leaving the kingdom and to see Davin again. She and Mr. Brown had made an agreement about how it would be after their wedding. She would see Davin at least twice a week and she would help Dylan with his family's business. They lived in the same house and shared a room, but they wouldn't have any kind of affection - except when it was necessary. "Miss Curry?" called the new housekeeper, "everyone is waiting for you in the garden." Emma had to contain her joy so that her parents wouldn't be suspicious of her marriage. As the traditional wedding music played, Emma walked down the red carpet as rose petals were thrown her way. She wore the dress they had made for her and a black suit jacket with a white tie. There were many guests present that morning and a large buffet of sophisticated food. Dila's family were happy for him and he found the situation amusing, but his mind wandered in another direction, imagining what his wife would be like between four walls. But he soon pushed those thoughts aside to concentrate on his party. He could hear Emma's thoughts, which told him that she wanted to get out of that place and see her beloved again. "In the presence of all present, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride," said the bishop. They looked at each other, but being in public, the agreement was to show affection. So he took her face in his hands and gave her a quiet kiss. Emma felt her heart racing, but thought it was just a momentary diva thing, and didn't rush to stop the kiss. However - when his fangs threatened to come out - he interrupted the kiss. "That's enough for the prom rumors to die down," Dylan replied, "how long do we need to keep this up?" "I don't think so. We'll have to take pictures with the guests first and, of course, eat. The sweets must be divine." "All right," he replies, "at least the king has changed his mind about you lying about Davin." "How do you know about that?" she asks in confusion. "He didn't say anything during the ceremony," he says seriously, "let's go and greet the guests because they're watching us." *** "I'm very proud of you, my daughter", replied her mother, "I hope you have a long life together." "Thank you, Mrs. Curry," replied Dylan, "I'll make you very happy." "I know you will," she replies, "I can feel it." "Miss Emma"- calls one of her friends- "What a handsome man you've found"- she speaks more quietly close to Emma- "at least now I know those rumors are false because your kiss was very convincing." "We're a couple very much in love"- Dylan holds his wife's hand, who smiles in response- "Shall we go, my love? They're calling us to take the pictures." "Of course," replies Emma, "excuse me, Miss Elby." The photographers took several pictures of the couple and some of them alone. Afterwards, they broke a cake together and said a toast in thanks. "Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank you for being with us at this very special moment. I assure you that I will make you very happy." "Daughter, aren't you forgetting something?" asked her father, and she looked at Dylan in fright, asking for his help. "I don't think my wife has anything to say" - he stands up and whispers to her - "just follow my instructions" - he turns again to the guests - "would you do me the honor of this dance, Mrs. Brown?" "Of course, my love," she replies, and I follow her to a part of the garden. "Can you play a song please?" Dylan asks the musicians, "do you know the song Photograph by Ed Sheeran?" "Of course, sir," replies the boy. Emma and Dylan danced slowly while the instrumental of the song was played. "Thank you for helping me," replies Emma and Dylan gives her a little twirl, "you're a beautiful dancer." "So are you and I'll do whatever it takes to help you" - he strokes her cheek - "it's nice to see your smile, even if I'm not the reason." "I'm grateful to know you and I'll help you with whatever you need" - she hugs him and they dance together - "I just want to get out of here." They finished dancing and after greeting all the guests, Emma said goodbye to her family and went with Dylan to their new home in Washington - his parents' house. The two went in the private helicopter that King Augustus had rented for the newlyweds. She was still wearing her wedding dress because his family followed a tradition of the husband entering with his wife on his lap wearing the same wedding dress as a symbol of good luck. "You'll like Washington," Dylan replied, "the climate is different, but it's very nice to live in. The women don't wear clothes like they did in your kingdom, but you'll get used to it over time." "And how do they dress? Can they see other boys?" she asks curiously. "Yes, they can talk, kiss and do lots of other things." "And their parents don't forbid it?" "Washington is a free country, Emma. You'll be able to see it and you'll have your own cell phone." "I've never had a cell phone," she replies sadly. "My father always said that we didn't need this technology and that letters were safer." "Electronic devices are safer here, because they help us with everything we need." "If you say so," replies Emma, "are we coming? My stomach feels funny." "It's called motion sickness. Chew this" - he hands her a piece of gum - "it'll help." "Thank you" - she looks out over the sea - "I suppose I'll have a very different life from what I'm used to." "Yes, but you'll like it, I'm sure" - Dylan gives her a smile, making her heart race again - "are you looking forward to seeing you again?" "Yes, but I don't know how he'll react about the wedding. If he really loves me, he'll have to respect the fact that I can't kiss him anymore." "And why wouldn't you kiss him?" he asked curiously, "this is a sham marriage." "Because I'll respect you, even though I don't love you, and when we annul the marriage, if he still hopes for me, we'll be together." "Then I'll be faithful to you too" - he holds her hand, signing an agreement - "I don't know how much I miss being able to touch you and feel you?" "Not before the wedding. I made a mistake that day and I won't do it again. If he wants to, he'll have to wait." But Dylan knew it would be difficult for her to control herself and he couldn't control her - even though she was his wife. The helicopter had finally arrived in the United States and it was only 30 minutes before they landed in Washington. Dylan had already warned his family to hide the coffins and anything else that might cause her to have doubts because he didn't intend to turn it into a honeymoon so that she wouldn't feel any pain and also because they wouldn't be together for long - but the truth was that he wouldn't do that because she didn't love him and he didn't want to get in the way of her plans with a guy who had her heart in his hands. *** The helicopter landed in the backyard of Dylan and his family's house and he helped them down. "Thank you," she said. "Now, if you'll excuse me, miss" - he lifts her off the ground, picking her up - "let's start this tradition" - she smiles and Dylan carries her through the door to her new home.
