02: Province

Asteria We are now going to our mansion with Claire, Blaire, Kierra, and other friends. They hurriedly took off their shoes once they got inside, while they straight off got to the bar counter of the mansion that Mom and Dad placed to use whenever they hang out with their friends, but I’ll be the one using it for now while they’re gone. “Meghan, don’t you have anything to share with us?” Claire asked with her feet raised on one side as she sat, as for Meghan, she’s busy cooking food for us to eat as we drink. “What is it?” She asked, wondering, as if we didn’t see her earlier at school, looking like she’s hiding something.  “Well, you know that Sir and I don’t have a relationship. He’s too old!” She complained like she was disgusted by the thought, well, their age gap is only four years. I rolled my eyes because I think I’m the only one without a relationship here; it makes me bitter. That’s what I always think, and at the same time, no one passes my standards. I also don’t want to follow the rules that I see from my friends, and some guys are controlling their girlfriends’ lives. I then looked at Kierra with her head on her knuckles, nothing new about her because she’s always like this whenever that she’s in an occasion, I can’t blame her since she has another role to fill in a movie. “Why were you guys talking so long? Confess already!” Claire teased, now busy stirring a drink, I was just about to talk when our driver came in with the drinks that we made him buy. I didn’t thank him for he knows that I don’t do that when I order him stuff, I only say it when I’m asking for a favour. We started drinking while chit-chatting, as for Claire, she’s spinning a bottle in the middle with us circling it, “Meghan, if you aren’t scared then call the teacher you were talking with and tell him to pick you up here!” Claire shouted while the others clapped, Meghan chose to do it other than eating some hot chilli as a consequence. I then woke up with bright lights that directly hit my eyes, I immediately opened my eyes, and the first thing I felt is that my head seemed like it would explode. I saw Mom with her hands on both sides of her waist as she smiled at me. The first sentence that came out of my mouth was, “What do you need, Mom?” I asked, shifting on my side to sleep again. “Well, my little child looks like you had fun last night with your friends.” She said, her words entirely against the smile she’s showing. Her voice was calm, but what shocked me is that she took the alarm clock and made it sound, it’s like my eardrums are going to get destroyed. “Mom, I am awake. What exactly do you need?” I asked while yawning, ready to listen to her sermon. “What exactly happened yesterday?” She was mad as she sat by my side, straightaway, I slapped a hand on my forehead, perhaps she knew that we were drinking yesterday. I have two reasons in my mind, first, one of the maids and drivers confessed or, second, they didn’t get to clean our mess last night. “Drink?” I meticulously reasoned, I then saw one of her brows rose, obviously showing that she didn’t get the answer that she wanted me to say. She then stood up and turned her back at me, “Well my little Asteria, you know the consequence of what you did right?” I walked to the bathroom and started washing my face. “I know, Mom. Just tell me.” I said while putting soap on my face, looks like I need to ready myself from a bank account freeze. “Well... I have a friend of mine that is living in the province.” She said, emphasizing the word ‘province’, I then stopped and peeked at her to see if she’s serious. “And?” I asked as I started splashing water on my face; after that, I took a towel and got out. “You need to live with them until you learn your lesson.” She answered, playing a ball pen ‘round in circles in her pocket, I immediately put down the towel that I’m holding and came close to her. “Are you serious, Mom?!” I exclaimed for her to see my reaction and take what she just said back. I don’t think she would do that plan of me staying with her friend. “Well... yes, your Dad agrees with my decision.” She said with her head held high because we both know that when Dad agrees, I can’t do anything about it. After all, he’s the one which we made the judge in this mansion. I didn’t have any other options to reason out, so I let myself say what my mouth wants to spill, “Mom, how about my school?” I asked to make a reason. I would never live in a province. “They also have a school there too, my child.” She said, smiling at me, like her mouth was going to tear up, how could dad agree with this? “But the technology here is so amazing then there!” I answered, and Mom just shrugged, a sign that she won’t listen to whatever I’ve got to say. “I won’t repeat it. I promise,” I begged, I never expected that I would beg to not live in the province. I can’t imagine myself living in a place without technology, maids, and giant malls. “Mom, please,” I begged once more, but she only kissed my cheek and stood up. “We know what’s best for you, so dear just accept it because our decision is final.” She then walked out as I just stared at the closing door. It looks like I can’t do anything to change their minds, but how would I live there without a maid? I can’t even cook for myself, so how? I immediately called Claire, and I guess I need to hang out for the chance of my brain to refresh. Claire and I made our way to our favourite boutique, perhaps, because we both have the same taste in clothes. The clothes they’re selling here are imported from other countries too, so a few only shops here because of their high prices. “So, where’s Blaire?” That’s my first question to her because she isn’t with her twin Today who’s always behind he “She’s reviewing for the next quiz and doing performance tasks.” She answered as we stopped in front of the boutique and went in. The staff greeted us straight away, perhaps because they’ve known us since we often go here. I nodded my head at them. Immediately, a team approached us to ask what we’re looking. “Well, where’s the new collection of your dresses?” I asked as we followed the staff. “You will not believe what I’m gonna say,” I told Claire as I sipped on my drink that we bought in Starbucks before heading here. “What is it?” She asked me as we stopped on a dress collection, their new designs are beautiful, especially the colours that match each of them. “Today is my last day here in Manila, well... Mom decided that I should live with her friend.” I answered as I pointed out the dresses that I wanted to buy for the staff to collect. “And?” She asked again while choosing on the skirt section. “In the province, you know? No signal, no maids, and also no more shopping.” I told her as she gave the staff her chosen skirt, and with that, we headed to the cashier. “That’s hard, and you can’t even wash your dishes. How can you live in that place?” She said while taking her credit card out. Well apparently, yes, what a piece of bad news for me. It’d be better if my accounts would be frozen rather than me living in a place where there isn’t any technology. I got startled when Mom called me back home, to tidy and fix the things that I would bring to the province. I hope that I get there nicely.
