The distant sound of water tapping grew louder the more Dylan blinked his eyes and fought to open them. Every inch of his body ached, especially his legs and face. Those areas throbbed in the same rhythm as his heart. After a few more attempts to open his eyes, he succeeded, but the dimly lit room made it difficult to see his surroundings. He raised himself into a sitting position and began surveying his surroundings. What he saw made his stomach sink. A row of bars held him inside a tiny room. He would never have noticed if not for the oil lamp burning on the wall in the corner. Beside it stood a burly man with arms the size of Dylan’s thighs.
