Questions—Heaven had plenty. The unanswered ones were like a raging river eroding the banks that held it back and protected the surrounding grounds from flooding. Those banks represented Heaven’s patience. What happened during Captain Laveaux’s rescue mission was one of the answers she needed.
Once Mason came in to watch over Adalyn, she and Layne made their way through the hallway in the staircase’s direction. The house sat eerily silent of footsteps, voices, and every sound other than a few ticking clocks and the hum of some appliances.
