Layne stood in the archway of the bedroom door and stared at Heaven and their daughter. Two minutes after lying down, both had fallen asleep. He had no doubt Heaven was exhausted after the intense delivery she’d experienced. Her labor, though shorter than the time she labored with Adalyn, had been agonizing, not to mention stressful. Pain and stress often caused the body to contract muscles that led to tension and soreness. It taxed the body and drained the person experiencing it. What help Layne gave Heaven, he didn’t know, but knowing she was asleep meant she was resting and healing. He lowered his gaze to his little girl. There was no fighting the smile on his face. She was here, safe and sound, and she finally had a name. Heaven had told him that much before she fell asleep. Alayna
