“Raelynne Hawthorne, you will be mine!” “No, I’m my own person.” I laugh at this man in my dreams, I’m only 4 so I am my own person. This man shifts before my eyes. Blue eyes turn dark, happy smile turns vile, and he has fur all over his body. Wolf, I thought to myself, “Who are you, sir?” I ask this strange creature. “I’m your worst nightmare little girl!” He lunges for me. I scream and run. I’m running so fast I bump into a boy about my age, maybe a year or two older. I recognize him, Connor! “Connor, help! This wolf creature is chasing me.” I beg and plead. “No, I’m not helping you! Get off me.” He shoves me to the ground and begins laughing at me. No, don’t laugh, I try to say, but nothing comes out. “Look, she’s mute.” As he laughs, the man/wolf creature grabs me and drags me away from everybody. I’m surrounded in darkness. I try screaming for help, no one comes to my rescue. “Raelynne! Wake up!” I’m being violently shaken awake. I’m screaming as I come to. “What? Where am I?” I question as I wake up. I see Connor over my body shaking me. “Rae, thank god. Are you okay? I heard you screaming.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Nightmare.” I say, laughing, trying at least, it off. I place my head in my hands and try to forget what just happened. It seemed so real though. Who was that in my dream? Why did Connor shove me on the ground? Why was I four? So many questions are racing through my head. I’m feeling a headache coming. “Babe, calm down. Talk to me.” Did he just say babe? What? “You’ve been out for two days, Rae. I didn’t know it took that bad of a toll on you. I’m sorry.” Why’s he apologizing? “It's fine, Connor. I don’t know what my dream was about. It seemed so real, like it wasn’t a dream but a memory.” I tell him this and he looks at me worriedly. I put my hand on his very toned, might I add, arm to reassure him, “Connor, I’m fine. Promise. Now that I’m awake, wanna tell me why you put me in your room the other day?” I ask him teasingly.
He now looks flustered. I laugh at this, it’s cute. Adorable even, “I’m teasing you Connor Johnson. I know we’re mates, completely normal, right?” He nods yes to me, too stunned to speak, it’s cute. “Yeah, I thought you could get accustomed to sleeping in here? Ya know, cause we’ll be sleeping together for the rest of our lives.” Woah, slow down tall, dark, and handsome. “Okay, Connor, whatever you say.” He doesn’t seem to like my retort. “Oh well, tough guy. I’m not sleeping here tonight. So, go ahead and have your bed back.” He growls at me, what the heck? Why would he do that? Has he never been turned down before? “You’re mine, you sleep with me. End. Of. Story.”
“Someone needs to knock you down a peg, dude.” I say this and get up. I’m just about to make it to the bathroom door when I’m pinned to the door facing the beast. “No, listen, I’m not gonna hurt you but do not, I mean it, don’t ever disrespect me like that.” He gets in my ear with a husky voice, “Or the consequences will be punishment.” He says this and it sends a shiver down straight to the spot between my legs. Oh, I shouldn’t be turned on by this, I can’t. I’m a virgin, I shouldn’t think these thoughts. This is gonna kill me. I just know it. “Yes, Alpha.” I say in the most seductive voice I can muster and look him in the eyes as I said it. “F**k!” Is all that’s said and he lets me go ten walks right out the bedroom door.
Connor’s POV:
Why’d she say the things she said. I could’ve gone all day without this being said to me, from her, especially. She’s going to kill me, I swear it. I get downstairs to see her mother and brother at the counter talking. “How’s she doing, Connor?” Mr.s Hawthorne asks. “She’s fine, it was just a bad dream. I’m pretty sure she’ll tell you when she gets down here.” Her mother looks at ease at this. “I appreciate everything you’re doing for us, young alpha. And I’m sorry my ex husband is being a pain in this pack's side. I’m sorry.”
“No, it’s no problem. I understand that you had to leave when your children were young, so as my job as alpha, I protect my pack. You guys are my pack now. Always have been and always will be.” I embrace her in a hug. Just then the girl I never want to see comes up and hugs me from behind, “There you are! I’ve missed you baby!” No not now, please goddess, why? Just then Raelynne walks down the stairs and sees the blonde bimbo hugging me. “GET OFF MY MATE!” She tugs Shimmer all the way back into the cabinet behind her. Damn, that’s hot. “What!? You’re mate? I think you’re mistaken, tramp. Conor is mine. Get lost.” I hear scoffs from Mrs. Hawthorne, Skylar, and Rae, “You really think he’d wanna be seen with a bimbo like yourself? Get over yourself, little girl.” All I see is Rae take off after Shimmer, “You shouldn’t have said that Shimmer.” I tell her. “Why?” She doesn’t get all of her questions out when Rae tackles her to the ground, she scratches the hell out of Shimmer’s face. She screams and yells at my mate. I now take this into my own hands, “Nobody hurts my mate.”
I grab Shimmer off Rae and hold them both back, “Tell them, Connor. Tell them how I’m your mate.” Shimmer pleads. “You are not my mate, Shimmer. Raelynne is. Now, if you don’t want me to let her go and beat your face in, I advise you to go somewhere and hide.” She scurries out of there like someone lit a flame under her ass. I’m laughing so hard that I don’t even notice Rae giving me a scathing look. “Alright bro, you’re on your own with my sister. See ya.” and with that, he and his mother bolt out of there.
She looks at me, “Who was that?” I falter from the cool bad boy act I had on earlier with her, “Nobody, love. She thought that she could talk to you however she wanted, but she’s got it all wrong.” But she doesn’t believe me. “The hug was nothing, Rae. I was talking to your mother and she came up behind me and hugged me. I swear I don’t like her or anything like that. I promise.” I’m pleading with her to understand what I’m trying to say. She shrugs and walks out. I can still sense she’s pissed at me. I accept that I’m not getting anything but the silent treatment from her, for a while at least.
Rae’s POV:
That little b***h. Who does she think she is, coming and touching MY man. Woah, hold up. My man? The heck? Why did I react the way I did? That’s what scares me the most, to be honest. I don’t know what any of these feelings really mean. No idea what’s going on inside me. I get outside of the house and see so many people. They all stop and turn to me. Uhm, I’m confused as to why they’re staring at me. Creeps me out, honestly. I feel someone behind me, a good feeling though, like it’s warm and smells like citrus and pine. Connor! I turn around and run straight into someone, who is not Connor. “Oof! You okay?” Comes a sweet voice. Wow, am I having deja vu? This isn’t Connor. “Yeah, who are you?” I ask no so politely. “I’m pretty sure I should be asking YOU that. Little miss rocket.” Nicknames, how cute. He can see I’m pretty annoyed.
“I’m sorry. My name is Shawn Johnson.” Still confused. But something inside me is stirring, I can’t quite put my finger on it though. “Raelynne Hawthorne. Nice to meet you. Sorry for being a brat.” He laughs and shakes his head, “No, don’t be sorry. It was rather amusing.” He says, teasingly. Just then Connor walks out of the house, “So I see you’ve met my brother? He hasn’t hurt you has he.” He walks up and examines me. “No, Connor. Perfectly fine. Promise.” I’m looking between the two of them. They both tower over my 5’ 7 frame. Same facial features, light hazel eyes, crooked smile, shaggy brown hair that I’d love to run my hands through. Hold up, run my hands through? What? “Mate!” I’m thrown back by this little voice in my head. I have no idea what’s going on. Connor must see the look of confusion on my face, “Rae, you’re okay. What’s going on?”
“Not sure. Some little voice in my head keeps screaming ‘mate’ every time you’re around. It honestly freaks me out.” He puts his hand on my arm, then all I see is black.
