TANNER POV
I walked out of her room after our conversation. I don't know what to do. I know she didn't kill my father, but there's still that tie there. That pain of losing my father to hers. It also sucks because I can feel her emotions slightly. If we were mated and marked, I'd feel them as if they were my own. She's sad. I do my best to block it out. I walk to the kitchen and find Ken, Damien, Gabby, and Lyle all there sitting and talking.
"Hey guys." I say as I approach them.
"So, where's our luna?" Ken says excitedly. I don't know what to say. Damien stands up and steps closer to me with a low growl.
"Did you reject her?" Lyle stands up and grabs his brothers arm.
"No, but I didn't accept her either. Her father killed mine. How can I see past that?" Ken stood up and walked over to me. Put his hand on my shoulder and looked me in the eyes.
"And you would punish the innocent for a crime she didn't commit? Is that the way of a true alpha?" And he walks out of the room. Lyle walks out after him, with Damien in tow. He stopped before walking and looked at me.
"You know Tanner. No one, and I mean no one, suffered more at the hands of her father than she and her mother did. To you and others, he killed a loved one, a brief interaction with a lasting impression. She and her mother, they got more than that. Her mother wished for death. Adalaina was left alone to suffer in silence. You took over at eighteen. She took over at sixteen. She has paid for her fathers choices her whole life. No one has left her forget what he did. My father killed hers, and she has always accepted Lyle and I." And he walked out leaving Gabby and I.
"Come on, big brother, let's go for a walk." We walked in silence until my sister spoke again. I stayed quiet until the very end. "She's nice, you know? Luna Adalaina, she's nice. She was helping the omegas cook breakfast this morning. When Sammy came in and insulted her, she walked away. When Sammy attacked her, she walked away. She didn't fight back or harm anyone. I don't know how close you've followed her actions since she took over, but I have. She made big changes to the pack and how it runs. Everyone works, not just the omegas. Every penny the packs businesses earn, she puts back into the pack and their needs. She started an aid program. All those medical supplies you and a few of the other alphas received after some of the rogue attacks, she sent them. Everyone who can train, trains. There's houses now, actual houses. Not the huts you guys saw when you snuck onto the lands to spy after father died. Give her a chance. She is not her father." She left me there to think.
After a few days, I called the number I've had but never used for the last five years. After a few rings, she answers.
"Hello?"
"Hi Adalaina. It's Tanner." She was quiet for a little bit.
"What can I do for you, Alpha Tanner?"
"It's just Tanner, please. Um, I was hoping I could stop by in a few days on my way back to my pack?" My question is met by silence.
"Sure. We'll be expecting you. Just know it's been kind of busy here the last few days. So, I apologize in advance for any mess that there is."
"No worries. I'll see you in a few days." I hung up and went in search of Sammy.
I found her flirting with a bunch of warriors.
"Hey Sammy, can I talk to you a minute?" It was more of a command than a question, and she knew it.
"Yeah." She said something to the warriors and came over to me. "What's up, baby?"
I've always hated how much she hits on me, especially with how much she hits on any guy with a pulse really.
"It's Alpha, not baby. Alpha."
"Yes, alpha." She said, looking anywhere but me.
"What happened with the Silver Crescent Luna?"
"Oh, she told the omegas they didn't have to make me a special breakfast, and that unless I said please, it wouldn't get done. So I called her out on bull s**t and told her how the rest of really view her." She shrugged like it was common knowledge.
"Did you really attack her?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, yeah. She just walked away like I was nothing. Me. The future luna of Black Moon, and she acted like I wasn't important. So yeah, I hit her a few times. She was pathetic and didn't even fight back." Her voice was raising as she went. I sighed at the end of her little rant.
"Sammy, you attacked a luna. You also did it in a pack that is not your own. I am not going to take you on as my luna at all. And because of your actions, I'm going to have to banish you from the pack." Her face went pale.
"Banish me? BANISH ME?! For what?"
"The normal punishment for attacking a luna or alpha without cause is death. Please accept my mercy with just banishment."
"Fine, but you'll regret this." She stormed away, and I didn't see her again.
A week went by. It was more than I had planned on before going back home and stopping to see Adalaina. But I decided to head back with Damien.
