I have been looking for my mate and luna ever since I turned eighteen right before I took over as alpha of Blood Moon. I trained to be alpha since I was a child. I lived a blissful life.
Before the Silver Crescent alpha got too ambitious for his own good and tried to take over a lot of surrounding packs, I didn't understand the danger alphas protected their packs from. When my father died, I took over. The warriors and I defended the pack and fought off the enemy pack. We had never been allies with them since my great grandfather's time. No one knows exactly why, just that there was a falling out. I know my closest friend Lyle's father was helpful in actually taking out the alpha and ending the war. I was surprised when I heard he turned the pack over to the daughter of that deranged man and that they remained allies. How could they trust her not to turn on them like her father?
Lyle, one day, when I was tipsy and confronted him about it after his brother went to be the beta, he told me that she had overheard her father talking of attacking them. He then explained that she snuck away from the pack and warned them of her fathers plans. According to him, she's not anything like her father at all.
I'm late to the alphas meeting. To everyone else, but my beta because he knows the truth, I'm on official pack business. I'm really looking for my mate. I'm twenty-three with no luna. I've checked almost every pack. The only one left is Silver Crescent. The luna has never reached out, I don't know why, not that I'm complaining. But I'll have to talk to her to see if I can come search for my mate.
I've heard she's different and kind from a few of my pack members. A few years ago, one of my members went rogue after her mate beat her almost to death. She left her family behind, and I guess was accepted there. Her brother came to me saying he wanted to go visit, but since she was in an enemy pack, I wanted to request permission first. I told him if it was OK with the luna, I didn't mind so long as he was cautious. He said she accepted his visit to her sister with no hesitation and that his sister went to her personally and asked. I guess one morning he went to find his sister, and she was in the kitchen with a beautiful girl with dark brown hair and stunning green eyes, and beautiful smile and laugh. That's all he said about her. When he started helping his sister with breakfast, he asked about the illusive luna since no one had really seen her since she took over. The girl with his sister reached out and shook his hand, introducing herself as the luna, but insisted he call her by her name. He said at the end of his visit, she insisted on sending warriors with him for protection through the space between our packs known to be full of rogues.
On my drive to the Forest Lake Pack, my beta called. Ken has been my best friend for years. He said he was rather impressed with the luna and that she handled herself well in a room full of alphas, constantly throwing insults at her.
I pulled up to the packhouse a little after nine and was met by my beta and Lyle.
"Hey man, it's been a long time." Lyle said as he came over and clapped me on the back
"I know. We'll have to do some catching up. Um, I hope you don't mind but my sister is coming by tomorrow. She's heading home from college and wanted to say hi." I say with a slight chuckle, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Oh yeah, no problem." He said happily.
Ken and I headed inside and up to my room. We passed Damien on our way.
"Hey Damien, how have you been?" I ask while shaking his hand.
"I'm doing good, Tanner. just working and looking for my mate. You know how it is." He laughed.
"I do know how that search is. So the luna keeps you pretty busy to just be up to work, huh?" I'm fishing for information, but he doesn't need to know that.
"No, actually." He laughs. "I have to remind her that as her beta, I can do work too. When she says she's got it all under control, I ask the point of having me as the beta is, and she just says I'm the eye candy and that I'm too pretty to do paper work."
The three of us laugh. Ken and I make our way to my room. Once we get inside, he asks the dreaded question.
"No luck on finding your luna?"
"No." I sigh.
"You gonna ask the luna of Silver Crescent if you can look there?"
"Probably. I know it'll be a big favor for an enemy pack of many years to ask, but I don't know where else to look."
"She seemed nice, maybe a little timid, but nice. She'll probably let you since it's to look for your mate. She doesn't have her mate yet, either. She seems kind of lonely, to be honest. The only ones who listened to her today were Damien and Lyle. Everyone just tossed insults at her."
I frowned at that. You'd think alphas could put aside their dislike enough to come up with a solution to our rogue issue.
"Well, it's been a long few days of traveling. I'm gonna head to bed. Night, ken."
