In the Bushes

TANNER POV The night passed by too quickly for my liking. But I had to keep to my routine. I got up and went for a run. As I get close to the training area, I hear the sounds of grunting and fighting, as well as some talking. So I decided to be a little nosey. I hid in some bushes close by. I recognized Damien, but not the girl he was fighting. She was a force to be reckoned with, that was for sure. She was a skilled fighter for someone so small. She was maybe five foot four inches, tiny compared to Damien's 6 foot 5 inch height. Her brown hair is in a braid. Her body, from what I could see, was nice. Her black leggings hugged her legs well, and her hoodie showed that she was smaller than the size she picked out. I focused on their conversation. "Come on, Laina, why not just join the rest of us for training?" "I was their verbal punching bag yesterday, and probably will be today, I don't want to add a physical punching bag to the list." "You're a good leader. If you stand up to them and show them what you're made of, they might take you more seriously." I noticed he slipped something over her head and tossed it to the side, and for a split second, I smelled the faint scent of fresh rain and freshly cut grass. My favorite scents are around. She stopped, ran to where he tossed the trinket, and slipped it back over her head. She turned towards him, and from her voice, I could tell she was upset. "What the hell, Damien?! Why would you do that?" "To help you possibly find your mate." He stated, crossing his arms. What does that thing have to do with finding her mate? "It's the only thing I have left of her." She said sadly, looking down and Damien's demeanor softened. "Besides, it's not like my mate will even want me when we find each other. The daughter of a man who ruined countless lives and killed countless people. And who would want to see the marks for the rest of their life anyway?" She said sadly while shrugging. "Laina, damn it, you are not that man. He hurt a lot of people. You are one of them, and you still turned out to be kind and a good leader. You are not what he did to others or to what he did to you. You survived." "I know," she said, turning around facing the house. "I gotta go get some paperwork done. Beta Kendrick asked for a meeting between his alpha and I after the alpha meeting. I gotta go get ready for both." "Beta Kendrick? Ken? Of Black Moon Pack?" He asked, shocked. "Yeah." She was grabbing her water bottle. "Don't do too much, or what am I supposed to do?" "Look good and be the eye candy for the ladies," She laughed out while shrugging. After training, I got ready and headed down to breakfast when I heard some shouting in the kitchen. I walked in to see my sister Gabby, her friend Sammy, Damien, and Lyle. "What does it matter? She's just a piece of trash." Sammy says dismissively. Gabby looks horrified by her friend. "Because you don't treat people that way, no matter who they are!" Yelled Lyle. "She was being really nice, Sam." Added my sister. "Whatever. Are you forgetting because of her father and pack your father is dead? Tanner had to take up the alpha position early. She should've died with that psychopath." There was a growl, and Damien spoke. "Watch your words." She turned and walked out, huffing and puffing, muttering under her breath. I'm sorry about he, Lyle." My sister sai, turning to him sadly. "It's alright, baby." He said, pulling her into a hug. "Baby?!" I shouted, alerting them of my presence. Gabby ran over to and hugged me. Then stepped back towards Lyle. "Tan, I got here this morning, and there was this scent, and I followed i, and well, Lyle is my mate." "Mates?" I ask, shocked. They both nodded their heads and looked at each other with pure adoration. "Congratulations." I hug them both. "Um Tan?" "What's wrong Gabby?" "You might need to do some damage control with the Silver Crescent Luna." She says, looking down at the ground. "Why?" I ask slowly. "I was in here talking to the luna. She's very nice, by the way. She even apologized for what her father did. Well, Sammy walked in and started demanding things, and the luna defended the omegas from her tone and a few insults. Sammy started insulting her. When the luna didn't react and went to walk away, she um, she attacked the luna." Shit.
