In the dark, rain-soaked alley, Cain grabbed me by the throat and crushed his mouth onto mine.
I fought him, struggling, hitting at him, until my head went light from the lack of air. Only then did Cain let go, his face dark with rage.
"Didn't I make it clear? From now on you're my girlfriend. You don't talk to another guy. Ever."
I shook my head hard. "I'm not your girlfriend. I don't like you."
Cain stared at me, his chest heaving. Then he raised his hand and slapped me across the face.
"Isabella, you should be grateful I picked you. Don't act like you're too good for me."
My cheek burned, and the cold rain running over it only made the sting worse.
Cain forced my chin up so I had to look at him. The fear in my eyes was plain, and it kept climbing.
I was already dead once. So why was Cain still haunting me like something that wouldn't stay buried?
