Chapter 14
I came to with a start, sitting upright, and gasped.
I was in a hospital bed, the metal sides up to stop me from rolling out in my sleep. I looked down and saw I was wearing a green hospital-issue gown. I scanned the rest of the room in a panic, terrified I was back at the estate.
My gaze settled on Daniel, sleeping in an uncomfortable position on an old brown armchair in the corner closet to the bed. He was wearing the same clothes as last time I’d seen him, a faint hint of a five o’clock shadow on his chin.
As if he felt the weight of my gaze, he opened his eyes and gave me a smile that set my pulse pounding and created a flight of butterflies in my stomach.
