Rebecca's POV
" So... where were we? "
I asked after that awkward silence prevailed for more than several minutes.
I had just finished narrating my story. He had interrupted at every possible juncture, asking all the possible and impossible questions.
" You saw your ex f*cking your sister? "
" No! Stop! Eww! It... it wasn't like that. He was trying to force himself on her, but luckily I got back, just in time... "
There were several question and answer sessions like these, going back and forth.
" That loser nephew of that b*stard Frederick? That's your husband? "
He seemed more amused than intrigued.
"I really do, pity you... "
At times, his comments were getting unbearable. But he was a good listener.
He listened with all his attention, till the very end, then what followed was pin drop silence.
"Excuse me... "
I dared to nudge him at his shoulder.
"It will be Alpha Asher for you Rebecca. First things first. Let me get this straight to you, nobody gets to know that you are a member of the Royal Palace on my land, without my permission. You will not give this away even if they t*****e you to death. Did I get that straight? "
I nodded.
"Well, no problem. But who are these, 'they', who might t*****e me to death... "
He wasn't listening.
"Point number two. You need to make up your mind. Usually, royals from Clovera, don't get to live after stepping on these lands but I am willing to make an exception for you. If you wish to go back to Clovera, I can show you the way out of here, or..."
" Or? "
I asked when he paused. I didn't feel like going back to Clovera at all. I didn't have the strength, nor the motivation to face my own family. Life was starting to feel like a heavy load.
"Or, I have a proposition for you. The proposition comes from a place where you mentioned that you hated both the King and his kin. "
"I am all ears. Tell me more please. "
He was sitting on one of those boulders, yet his head reached mine, even though I was standing in front of him.
"You look headstrong... but I am not sure if you are a fighter. I need to ascertain that first before offering you my final proposal. "
He grabbed my hands and pulled me along, towards that mysterious looking settlement.
I could see all the eyes on me as we proceeded through those emandering alley ways.
There was hardly any path left for walking between those houses, that also doubled as their shops.
The smell of fresh grilled seafood and sundried fish was having a very contradictory effect on my treacherous belly.
It growled aloud.
Asher immediately turned around and asked,
"Are you still hungry? How will you fight if you are hungry? You must eat."
Waht did he mean by 'fight'? Was O being taken to some kind of gladiator ring ? And what did he mean by 'still'? All I had was a little coconut meat and water. It just kept my body alive not my belly. What an a*shole.
He pulled me inside one of those homes, which we were crossing and mademe sit on a table. A little boy came running at us and asked us what we wanted to eat?
"Give this lady a warm bowl of whatever your mother has prepared. Tell her to put it in the Alpha's tab. "
Pssst! I thought he was a nice guy but he was trying to get a free meal out of a poor woman. Whoever, ever heard of a Alpha who cleared his debts. She was surely going to be cheated out of this.
" I will pay her. " I took my earring out and gave it to the boy. He looked hesitant, but ran inside once Asher gave a nod.
"Buuuurp! Argh! "
It was long burp of satisfaction as I put the bowl down and wiped my face.
"Let's go. "
He did even let me thank the woman for serving such a refreshingly tasty dish.
He pulled me under a wired railing and we were walking through, what looked like an underground tunnel.
I could hear faint sounds of battle cries and kiai at a distance.
It was a practice ground. A well hidden but very long, underground practice ground and all the men and women, were hard at work.
They collectively stopped at their track, the moment Asher entered with me.
" Test her out! "
Asher ordered as he shoved me into the arms of one of them.
They bowed at him and then ordered,
" Follow us. "
I was trying look for Asher because I was already feeling lost in that place. But before I could turn my head, he was gone.
I moved with my head down and my eyes low.
It was just moments that I spent with him, but the moment he was gone, I was already feeling insafe.
I scoffed at myself. How pathetic had I become? Was I dying for validation from a man?
" Put some of this on your body and face, "
One of them instructed, pointing at a pile of what looked like a mixture of charcoal and dirt.
" You try moving forward from here girl. This will mark your first obstacle. "
Another one placed me firm in front of what looked like a netted path.
I could hear the low growls and cheers from the crowd but for some reason, I was not able to see them any longer. Though, it looked like the same landscape, they seemed like they had all vanished behind some veil, to watch my live performance, including Asher.
