His name was Alpha Rowan Ashfell.
He arrived with the eastern delegation just before dusk, his presence announced by the sudden shift in the air like a storm rolling in over calm water.
Tall, broad-shouldered, wearing confidence like a second skin, Alpha Rowan moved through Ironfang’s gates as though he already belonged there.
A battle-hardened alpha of a smaller but ruthless pack, his reputation preceded him: strategic, charming, and dangerously perceptive.
The kind of wolf who smiled while measuring the best way to dismantle you.
Skyler felt his gaze before she ever saw him.
It wasn’t dismissive like most.
It wasn’t cruel.
It was interested.
Sai stirred uneasily.
"He sees you.......,"Sai whispered.
"Not as property. As something to take".
Skyler kept her eyes lowered as she poured wine during the welcoming feast, but she felt the weight of his attention like a hand resting between her shoulders.
“You keep your omega hidden,” Alpha Rowan remarked casually to Alpha Kaden, amber eyes flicking toward Skyler as though she were part of the décor. “That kind of restraint usually means fear… or possession.”
Kane bristled instantly.
"He dares to look at what's mine"
Alpha Kaden’s jaw tightened. “Mind your tongue.”
Alpha Rowan only smiled, slow and knowing.
Later, when the hall grew too loud and the bond too tight, Skyler slipped into the courtyard for air.
The moon was high. The stone was cool beneath her bare feet.
She didn’t hear Rowan follow her.
She felt him.
“You walk like someone who refuses to be broken,” he said from behind.
Skyler stiffened.
Sai growled softly.
"Do not trust him".
" worry not " Skyler answered inwardly
“You should not speak to me,” Skyler replied quietly to Alpha Rowan
“And yet you didn’t walk away.” Alpha Rowan stepped closer, careful, deliberate.
“You’re wasted here. An omega like you should stand beside power, not beneath it.”
Her voice cooled. “I do not belong to you.”
Rowan’s lips curved. “Not yet.”
The bond burned.
Sai gasped.
"He is provoking Kaden".
Across the fortress, Kaden felt it.
The sudden tightening in his chest.
The violent pull of Kane’s instincts.
"Someone is near her."
Kaden turned sharply, eyes locking onto the courtyard just in time to see Rowan’s hand lift hovering near Skyler’s wrist.
A deliberate echo of his own loss of control.
Kane snapped.
"Kill him."
That was a mistake.
Kaden appeared between them in a blur, presence slamming into the space like a wall.
His eyes glowed not fully, but enough.
“She is off-limits,” Kaden growled.
Rowan raised his hands in mock surrender. “I see no mark.”
Skyler’s breath caught.
Neither did Kaden.
"Claim her", Kane roared.
"End this." "she is not ready" kaden replies in his mind
“She is under Ironfang protection,” Kaden said coldly.
Rowan’s gaze slid back to Skyler, sharp and assessing. “Protection is not ownership.”
For one terrifying heartbeat, Kaden’s control fractured again. His wolf surged, teeth itching, instincts screaming to challenge, to dominate, to tear Rowan apart in front of the moon.
Skyler stepped forward.
“Enough.”
Both alphas froze.
Even Kane went silent.
Her voice carried weight now—steady, clear, impossible to ignore.
“I am not a prize to be argued over,” she said quietly. “I choose where I stand.”
Sai’s voice was calm and proud.
"You have grown."
Rowan’s smile softened into something genuine. “Then I will wait.”
Kaden did not speak.
He couldn’t.
Because Kane had already made the truth unbearable.
"He will not stop. And neither will we".
That night, Skyler lay awake beneath the moon, understanding something dangerous for the first time.
Rowan saw her as potential.
Lyra saw her as threat.
And Kaden—
Kaden saw her as inevitable.
And inevitability terrified her more than any enemy ever could.
Because he could fight challengers.
He could destroy rivals.
But fate?
Fate was already inside his chest, breathing with her name. 🌙🐺
