Chapter 2

"Kate?" Eugenia blinked as she looked at the face closely to make sure she was not mistaken, but it wasn't really someone that looked like Kate, it was her, it was her best friend. "Eugenia," Kate called out her name with a trembling voice, and Eugenia lowered her eyes to Kate’s arms linked to his hand and Kate noticed she was glancing there and tried to take her hand away, but he held her hand and didn't let go as Eugenia glanced up at him. "Now you understand the reason I don't want you, right?" There was no guilt in his voice, there was no shame, no pain at all. "Eugenia, I wanted to tell you..." Kate started to speak but quickly shut her lips when Eugenia glared up at her. "You betrayed me, Kate." Eugenia's words hit Kate’s heart and she lowered her eyes, but Eugenia went on as her heart churned more than when he had told her that they should break up. "I told you all about him," tears shimmered in Eugenia's eyes. "I introduced you to him, I f*****g told you I loved him and you encouraged me to keep dating him, so how?" She screamed out and Kate shuddered. The first day she told Kate about her new boyfriend was the most exciting day for her since Kate had danced and drank with her partying all night, because Kate had always known how hurt she had been when her past lover and first love broke up with her and it was Kate that had told her not to give up on love and not to close her heart when love comes to find her, but right now, Kate had stolen the love that she finally let into her heart, what was this irony? "Was all your happiness and joy for me all fake?" Eugenia asked as she blinked tears away. "Was it all pretense?" Her lips trembled as she searched Kate’s eyes. "It can't be, right? It can't be fake because I saw your smiles that day, it was genuine, your happiness for me was genuine," Eugenia pat her chest. "So why?!" She shouted. "Eugenia, I..." Kate was about to say something since she wanted to at least explain her reasons. "When did it start?" Eugenia interrupted her as she looked up at the friend, she trusted with all her heart. "When did it start between the both of you?" She asked as she searched Kate’s eyes and glanced over at his face. Kate could not say a word since she felt guilty, she also knew how Eugenia loved him, but she couldn’t stop her heart from falling in love with this man either. "I loved her the first day you introduced me to her, Eugenia." He spoke in place of Eugenia, whose forehead creased as she turned to look at him as she raised her eyes to the left to recall when that was and she scoffed in disbelief as she turned to them again. "That was two weeks after we both started dating if I am not wrong..." She turned her eyes to Kate and she curled her hand into a fist and bite down her lips in anger as she looked at both of them. "It has been that long and you both are f*****g telling me that right now?" "I was confused at that time..." His arrogant words hit Eugenia again and she looked at him. How did she let love blind her so much? How could she have lived in a dream and let his lies and deceit cloud her head while believing he loved her? "You were confused?" Eugenia's eyes dilated and her nostrils flared. "For a whole year, you toyed with my heart all because you were confused?" She ran her hand across her hair and clenched her jaw. She was a fool to cry for this bast*rd, she was silly to have let her heart get hurt because of a person like him. There was no point in crying or crumbling down for an asshole like this man in front of her. Eugenia swallowed hard and turned to Kate. "Hey, Kate," She said in a more lowered voice. "I hope you confirmed with him that he isn't too confused about you either," Eugenia nodded her head and licked her dry lips as she forced a smile. "Just as he was confused about me," She turned to look at his face. "I hope I am the last lady you get to play," She sniffled and exhaled sharply and turned to Kate again. "I can't forgive you Kate, I can't forgive both of you for fooling me, and I can't wish you well either." She swallowed and with that, she turned around and walked away, this time without sitting down or glancing back. What was love? A lot of people have a great definition of love. Many people would never give up on love either, but right now, love was far from Eugenia's heart, love was the last thing she was ever going to keep in her heart after being hurt by a man she gave her whole heart to and being betrayed by her best friend who she had trusted. Love doesn't exist, it never did and will never exist. She boarded a taxi and leaned back in the backseat as she glanced out of the window as the driver drove. She glanced up at the night sky and could see a lot of couples kissing each other and holding hands. It was true the words they say, love is in the air and everywhere, but it was far from her and she was going to lock her heart from falling in love again, from loving anyone, she was only twenty years old and her heart has been broken into a thousand pieces. It was true what was said, there will be nights when your life will fall apart and no one will notice, not even the people you have trusted to notice, and that night was tonight, but it was only right that she put those fallen bricks back together on her own, since there was no one that should be trusted in this world, not even those dearest to your heart, so it was okay to do things alone, to pick up the pieces alone. Eugenia gently closed her eyes and exhaled softly as she muttered softly. "Goodbye to the heart that loved."
