Just before reaching the spring I heard noises. It sounded like things scurrying off into the underbrush. I clanged the buckets together a few times and tried to shine the light around to see what was out there. There was silence. I stood there straining my ears. I couldn’t hear anything close so I carefully continued on down the path. Once at the watering trough my light caught the glint of an eye or something back in the brush. I moved the light back and forth and then saw a pair of eyes. Something was definitely there watching me. Was it a big hungry cat or maybe one of those pygmy savages that roam the jungle? “Oh s**t!” I said quietly to myself. “This isn’t good.” I moved back to take another look but the bright yellowish-green eyes were gone.
