I can feel bruises forming on my arms from his fingers. Tears are rolling down my face, but what can I do? “Please don’t do this, not again” My body shudders from fear, as he thrusts inside me and I scream.
I sit up fast, hearing someone screaming after a moment I realise it’s me. I immediately stop, and take a shuddering breath. It’s just another nightmare, a memory. After calming down I feel the cold sweat that must have broken out while during the nightmare. Hearing a knock my head does a 180 spin towards the door. It opens a crack and I see its my dad.
“Another nightmare?” He asks quietly. I nod my head and take a gulp of the water sitting on my white bedside table. I’ve been getting these nightmares for so many years now, but he still doesn’t know what their about. I’ve never told him, and probably never will. I don’t need him to know the terrible truth, no one needs to know. I check the time on my phone, it’s 6’o’clock. It’s already morning but I’m so tired! I think to myself.
“Sorry, dad I didn’t mean to wake you up,’ I say truely feeling guilty. I look up and meet his emerald eyes, as a small comforting smile grows on his face.
“It’s okay honey, I know you can’t help it. I’ve got to go for work for a couple days give me call if you need.” Genuine concern shows on his face, and I feel so sad he deserves better then this.
“Will do dad, have fun!” I say. He walks out of my room, softly closing the door behind him. I lay back in bed for a while until I hear the front door open a final shout of good bye from dad, and the door close. I stretch my arms above my head and I feel my left shoulder crack. I get up knowing I can’t go back to sleep, and have a calming bath in Lavender smelling bath scents. Being a werewolf my senses are heightened and so I only use a few at a time so it’s not over powering on me or others. After that I get ready for a day out, putting on nice jeans and a big hoodie. I procrastinate as long as possible but eventually boredom gets the best of me, once again I check the time; almost nine. It will have to do. I get my phone and call my best friend. She picks up immediately.
“Hey Roary!” A voice on the other side of the phone exclaims. She sounds unnaturally perky for her at this time of day.
“Hey Abbs, how you doing?” I question.
“Good, I woke up early this morning and it feels great!” I chuckle at how excited she sounds. “So why you calling? Because I was actually gonna call you! I know you’re usually up early, I was up early I’m ready to go. So how about instead of lunch at 12, we can have brunch now!?” She responds
“Wow, Abbie you legit read my mind I’ll get my keys now and come pick you up.” She mumbles an affirmative response and ends the call. I do as I promised and hop in the car.
When I pull into her drive way I beep the car horn and a minute later Abbie steps out of her house. She’s in inch high stilettos and a knee length black dress. She hops in the front passenger seat and evaluates what I’m wearing.
“I thought you would dress up a little,” she sighs. It’s the same argument every time.
“And I thought you’d dress down a lot,” I reply rolling my eyes. While driving to the nearest cafe we quietly talk. Once we get there we go and sit down ordering our drinks. In no time I get my chocolate milk shake, as Abbie gets her strawberry one. Then we start to order our meals. Abbie goes first and I almost laugh at the shock on the waitresses face as she orders enough to feed a horse- or more accurate a wolf. Then it’s my turn.
“May I please have the big breakfast, pancake mountain, fruit salad and some potato please?” I give the short waitress a smile. “I know it seems like a lot but it’s okay we are just still growing.” The poor girl runs of to get our meals that should be enough to feed 6 average humans. Shifting takes a lot of energy from someone, and werewolves bodies are built in with a fast metabolism. This is because naturally we get in bad situations where our body needs the fuel for long periods of time without eating. Our orders come and we eat it quickly then talk for a while. Then I get a call, I pull out my phone and check who it is. It’s Xander. As the phone keeps ringing I turn to Abbie.
“Hey I’m really sorry but I got to answer this, it’s the Alpha.” I apologise to her. She nods her head, and a concerned look appears on her face. Then I answer the phone. “Good morning Alpha, I hope you are good this morning.” I state.
“Yes I am good thank you. Don’t worry Aurora you are not in trouble, however I would like to talk to you. Would you mind coming to the pack house today at 3pm?” He asks me, the light sweat on my palm reveal the beginning of my dread.
“Of course Alpha I’ll see you then.” He makes a grunt of affirmation and ends the call. I put my phone back away and look up at my friend.
“Sorry about that. Hey let’s go do some shopping. We now have to leave at 2ish so I can drop you off at home and be at the pack house be 3pm.” I say.
“Of course, are you in trouble?” Abbie asks me.
“No I’m not, apparently Xander just wants to talk to me.” She gives me a look but let’s it slide.
“Okay then let’s go!” She says again hyper and excited for shopping. We get up and pay for our meals and head towards the main square. When we hit the main square, we come up with a plan of attack. On our phones we wrote down which shops we wanted to see, and then went to look at them together. By the time two o’clock roles around we visited all the ones we wanted to see and more. When we get into my car I turn on the air conditioner.
“Jeez Abbey, it’s so hot today, isn’t it?” I ask, the entire time we were out I had felt as if I was boiling alive.
“OMG yes it has, and still is! It must be because I’m here,” she says. We stare at each other for a heart beat then burst out laughing. I start the car and head once again for Abbies house. We reach the driveway and say our goodbyes. Switching gears I head back onto the road and drive towards the pack house.
I get to our pack property and slow down my old car. There is only one narrow dirt road and a thick forest of trees ahead. Driving for another 30 minutes I ponder why our pack Alpha might want to speak to me. He said I did nothing wrong but what else could it be? I was nothing special, just simply there. I see the pack house and park to the side of the road for a moment. Closing my eyes and taking a deep breath I focus on my surroundings. Outside the car off into the distance I could hear the rustling of small animals in the underbrush. Far out on the property I can even hear some growling and howling of wolves, probably just some pack cubs playing around. The air smells fresh and of wolves. I love being a werewolf as cringe as it sounds your senses are heightened, you’re stronger then 95% of humans it’s amazing. The only problem was the urge to find your one true mate is so strong it drove you crazy, particularly for Alpha wolves. Wolves which were born stronger, smarter, braver and ready to lead. No one knew but I was a wolf with an Alpha spirit, but I didn’t want it. I put the car back into drive and head the last little way to our main pack house. When I get there I park the car and get out. A wonderful breeze hits me and I take a huge sniff, it smells like franga pennies. There was one scent in the air I didn’t like, it was of him. His scent was only distant thank goddess so I wouldn’t have to confront him. Massive buildings lay everywhere around me. This was one area in which we called a pack house, there were six but this was the main one. It consisted of giant buildings that pack members stayed in or visited. They were also used if wolves from other packs wanted to come stay, or needed to for certain concerns. The building in front of me was a deep wood, and from my perspective looked like the size of a football field. This was the building where all pack matter was settled and where our Alpha stayed. Taking another deep breath I approached the front door and knocked. A wolf known as Jeffery opened the door, he was one of the people in charge of security. Security was one of every packs most important things, because others packs were dangerous. As such our pack took it very seriously and had petrols at the territory boarder and at important places such as this. I give Jeffrey a big smile.
“Hey, Jeff nice to see you.” I look up at his hair and laugh quietly. “I love what you’ve done with your hair.”
At that he rolls his brown eyes. His hair was died a bright blue, so different to his natural blonde. We had grown up knowing each other and loved to joke around as but as we grew older we had split apart.
“It’s not my fault” he mumbles, then a little louder he says “I lost a bet.” At that I burst in to full laughter, and his face goes a tint red.
“Who’d you loose it too?” I ask.
He sighs and continues “I lost a bet with Derek. We were watching the football Australia vs New Zealand. He suggested we do a bet, cause he liked the Kiwis and I the Aussies. At the time it was neck to neck, and I agreed. We decided whoever’s team who lost would have to die their hair blue. I obviously did not win.” He finishes with a smile on his face. Fun times. I laugh a bit more as he allows me to enter.
“God how do I know someone as stupid as you.” I ask as I walk away and we exchange one more smile each.
I walk down a hallway to the kitchen/dinning area. Sarah our pack Lunar was their cooking as she usually was. It’s not that our pack believed in the traditional wife stays home and cooks theory, but Sarah just loved it. As I walk further into the kitchen I bow my head in greeting and respect. “Good afternoon Luna,” I say.
