Ellie POV

End of school came and I still hadn't heard anything from Dusty. I only had the message from Riley about where to meet for mapping.

Marlon drove the 3 of us straight to training after school.

"Anyone heard from Dusty today?" I asked

"Yeah he just flicked me a text to let me know he's named me Beta" Dane said.

I leant forward and punched him in the arm.

"Dane, save it for training. I did Ellie, just to bring home notes he missed today." Marlon said

I was almost annoyed to hear that but relieved he at least spoke to someone and wasn't dying in bed.

Reid was our head trainer. You never wanted to be late to his class or he would have you running weighted laps. I had one on one combat with him today, it was going to hurt.

I quickly got changed into leggings and a singlet and started warming up. Reid came walking onto the field.

"Ellie, we're going to be slowing it down today." he stated

"What? Have you injured yourself?" I asked

"No, but you are nearly 18 which means your wolf is due. You need to be rested for that'" Reid replied.

"Oh but come on, just half a session. My wolf might be coming but so is Dustin moving into Alpha and me gaining Beta"

"I have no doubt that my star student will make a powerful Beta but not without completing her wolf ritual properly. So you can do stretch and stamina but that's it" he said as he tried to reason my disappointment. "I will still be training with you today just to make sure you don't sneak off to another group"

Shit he knows me well.

I did laps of the field with low baring weights. I tried to protest a few more times but Reid other waved it off or asked if I would like to just sit out for the rest of the afternoon. I could see the others doubled up into group combat as they all practiced battle positions and defence.

Finally the end of session came and I caught up with Marlon and Dane.

"That was the worst" I commented."I can handle a combat session and my wolf coming"

"Ellie even I agree that you need to slow it down. You're 2 days away and you're meant to prepare yourself for it" Dane said as he put an arm around my shoulders.

'Doesn't mean I have to enjoy it"

Dane and Marlon laughed at that which then got me smiling,

Riley jogged past and called out "Still seeing you at 9pm Ellie?"

"Yeah yeah, I saw your message before. I'll meet you there." I yelled back

Riley kept on jogging to the change room.

Dane and Marlon both stopped.

"What?" I looked between them both

"Explain" Marlon said almost looking shocked

"Explain what?" I asked confused.

"Meeting Riley?" He replied

"Oh. Riley asked for a hand with his end of year assignment. Just the mapping so I said I would help." I explained

"Just an assignment?" Dane questioned with a raised eyebrow

I rolled my eyes "Look, I have absolutely no interest in anything apart from mapping tonight. How can you even question it? That is ridiculous,"

"Sorry El, it's just with it being Riley. Dude is a sleaze and the girls love it." Answered Marlon

"Yeah but have I ever been someone to be interested in that bullshit? No! So I shouldn't even be standing here having to explain myself" I argued

"Ok ok, we know. Just want to make sure" Dane said

I went into the change room to grab my stuff. I checked my phone and finally a message from Dusty.

Hey Ellie. Just needed a day at home but I'll see you tomorrow.

Well at least he wrote back.

Marlon dropped me home and I ate dinner with mum before having a shower.

As the warm water hit my back, I started thinking about how annoying Dusty was today. He didn't stay, couldn't be bothered replying until 9 hours later. Must have been sooo busy lying in bed all day.

Then that's all I could see, Dusty laying in bed. I could feel my body tingle and myself getting wet, not just from the shower either. I knew it was wrong to start thinking about it but I couldn't help myself, I couldn't stop my fingers trying to chase a thrill.
