Julian didn't show up until the day after I was admitted.
His parents, Aunt Lynn and Uncle George, dragged him in, looking visibly guilty.
To give us some privacy, our parents stepped out of the room.
He walked in looking miserable. When he saw me lying there, covered in bandages and bruises, his brows furrowed in impatience. A mocking smile curled on his lips.
"Claire, what kind of trick are you pulling this time?" he scoffed. "To get me back, you not only ended up looking like this, but you even fed my parents some story about losing your memory? You really are something else."
I looked up at him. I had to admit, the guy was insanely handsome. His face was movie-star level striking. Too bad his personality was absolute trash.
He sneered at me with pure disdain. "You're acting like you're in some low-budget soap opera. No wonder Shara says you're the most scheming person she's ever met, the ultimate manipulative snake. I used to give you the benefit of the doubt, but now I finally see you clearly."
He leaned in closer. "Do you even know Shara is in the hospital too? When she heard you were in a car accident, she got so stressed she had a heart attack. She's in the ICU right now. Her condition is way more serious than yours, and she actually needs my help."
It was clear that Shara meant everything to him, and I meant nothing.
Honestly, that worked out perfectly for me. He was completely irrelevant to me. Why else would my brain have bothered to delete him?
"Then go take care of her," I said calmly.
Julian froze, like he hadn't heard me right. "What did you say?"
"I said, since you're so worried about her, go take care of her. My parents are right here. I don't need a stranger's help."
The audacity of this guy. Even if he offered to stay, I wouldn't let him. Why would I want a complete stranger hovering over me?
"A stranger?" He repeated, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I've become a stranger now?"
Julian let out a sharp, incredulous laugh. "Claire, I've had enough. It's one thing to act out because you're pissed, but this is getting old."
I didn't really get what he was so upset about. In my memory, he wasn't important at all, so why wouldn't he be a stranger?
When he saw that I wasn't going to back down, his expression shifted. He sat on the edge of the bed and tried to grab my hand.
The second his skin touched mine, I jerked away as if I'd been shocked. His touch made my skin crawl. It felt incredibly wrong.
"What are you doing? Don't get handsy!" I snapped.
Julian's face went dark in an instant. "Claire, I'm trying to be nice here. Now you won't even let me touch your hand? What is this? Are you trying to break off the engagement?"
