TOO SOON...
Damaged she was by the horrors she faced as a child. She cursed herself for being a woman as that had only brought wounds and unforgettable scars. She swore the other gender would live to regret why she had to be bruised at such tender age. With a broken heart beyond mending, she had made peace with the dark spirits, they were perfectly build for each other. She remembered the day she lost her sanity like it was yesterday, how the man she had always treasured turned his back on her. It all began with him not wanting her to play like any normal ten year old, instead she was usually locked up. He remembered how he had called her to his room and made her sit on his lap whilst he touched her private parts. He touched himself too,and seemed to drift to another world as he moaned to such lunacy. “Daddy it hurts,” she had cried but he did not stop until another generation dripped down his hands. “Get up and wear your panties!,” he shouted as he zipped his trousers. He walked to his drawer as she wore her panties and took out a gun which he pointed at her. “If you ever, ever tell this to anyone, I will blow your brains out do you understand!,” he warned her. Champagne Martyr recalled how she had peed in her pants just at the sight of the gun. Since the very day,her life changed and her supposed father, whom she came to learn was not her biological father, George Bereau, was just another parasite that was there to squander her mother’s money and he did. A woman that had never bothered to protect her own daughter.
“You’re George Bereau ?,” she asked again after a deep breath. He leaned back on his chair and looked at her,” George Bereau junior. I took my dad’s name. But you can call me, Juni. It’s….” He proceeded to speak but she was no longer part of the conversation. Another failed blind date! She 2was sitting with a product of a man that had taken away the world from her. “ I…I need to leave.” She said as she pushed away from the table. “Did…did I do anything to upset you Champagne?, “he asked in confusion. Champagne rose and as she was about to walk away in shock, she collapsed on the floor.
He sat agitated besides her waiting for her to come to life. How she had dropped to the ground earlier panicked the young man. He could not stop tapping his feet to the ground, a sound that always annoyed his older brother. Champagne woke up and found herself lying on a hospital bed. As she turned to the opposite direction, her eyes met with those of her worst nightmare sitting with her best friend.
“Champagne you’re up baby girl you scared us. How are you feeling?,” she asked as she rose and hugged her. “I’m fine Gina! What is he doing here?!,” she asked in a bitter tone. Gina looked at Juni, and stammered through an obvious answer,” Well y’all…y’all were together, y’all went on a date…a blind date and …he said you …fell and I was really…” Champagne raised her hand and Gina stopped talking. “ Thank you so much for bringing me here George Bereau but I’m fine now you can go,” she said bitterly. Juni heaved a sigh and wiped his face, “If I said anything to offend you, I’m deeply sorry.” Juni rose to his feet and exited the room. Gina watched him walk out before asking ,” Girlfriend what happened, what did he do to you?” Champagne felt disgusted by Juni's sight, she felt like her dark days had revisited her. “I just don’t like him Gina he…he’s just not my type,” she lied. Gina looked at Champagne, “ And that made you collapse? Was he that bad you just had to collapse? What’s going on Champagne?,” Gina bombarded her with chain questions. Immediately, the doctor walked in to check on his patient. “Miss Hudson, how are you feeling?” He asked. The two engaged in a doctor to patient conversation and she was to stay over at the hospital that night whilst they monitored her.
Juni got home worried and tried to recall what had occurred but he could not understand what had caused his blind date's collapsing. “What’s bothering you chosen one,” a voice disturbed his thoughts. He turned to face his brother, who had labeled himself as his enemy. “Why would you care Trevor ?,” Juni said as he poured himself a glass of whiskey. The man in the suit sat on the couch like a man that owned the world. “Why are you here anyway?” asked Juni as he sat on a single couch opposite his brother. “ Well you might own the businesses but this is my house too. You don’t own this place.” Juni gulped down his shot of whiskey and sprang up. “ Hey,before you go,just know that dad is using you. You will get in too deep in his madness and it will be too late to get out,” Trevor uttered. Juni laughed sarcastically, “ It must hurt I know, that the last born is the heir to the throne and you are nothing. If you will excuse, some of us have business to run.” Trevor hissed as his younger brother walked away.
The following day Champagne was discharged from the hospital and she headed home. Gina was at her door steps waiting for her. “Shouldn’t you be working?,” Champagne asked as she unlocked the door. The two walked in together. “I bought you a burger and chips but we could go out if you want to,” Gina said as she put the food in the microwave to warm it up. “I actually don’t want to go out Gina I need some alone time.” Gina sat next to her on the one lifeless sofa in the room, “I know we talked about this…but I think it’s time you stopped being the lady of the night. I feel like it’s draining you and that’s why you collapsed. Champagne you are jaw drop beautiful and you shouldn’t be doing this,” she uttered soflty. “ I know. I don’t always enjoy being a hooker but I need to pay rent. This whole blind date thing has brought nothing and I’m still owing this crazy landlady money. There’s nothing I can do to change that, my job pays peanuts.” There was silence in the room until the microwave bell sounded. Gina rose and put the food in the plate for her friend. “But then the money you get you still use it recklessly,” Gina said lowly as she poured juice into water glasses. Champagne ignored what her friend had uttered and turned on the television. After watching her eat Gina received a call from her husband. “Where are you Gina?!,” he shouted over the phone. Gina rose and went outside to take the call. After about five minutes she returned, “I need to leave. Hilton is, he’s fuming with anger.” The two hugged each other goodbye and she left in a hurry. Champagne went through her phone as she looked for her potential client that had promised her a house. Finally, having searched through his unsaved number, she dialed it.
“Pumpkin.”
“You keep lying to me, l’ve been waiting all week.”
“I got tied up pumpkin, just pack your stuff I will come and get you on weekend.”
“You better not be fooling around here.”
“I’m not, you did a great job so let me do mine.”
“Okay bye.”
Gina arrived home and found her husband waiting at the door with the twins. He looked very angry and she feared his animosity would erupt before their children.
“Where the hell have you been?!,” he greeted her with a bellowing voice. She apologized as she opened the door trying so hard to cease his temper. Her two twin daughters rushed into the house. Hilton stamped his feet to the bedroom and shouted, “ When you’re done come here!” Gina sat her twin daughters at the table and served them lunch. She slowly walked to her bedroom and as soon as she entered,he locked the door.
“Gina where have you been? Last night I clearly told you I lost my keys and today you told me you weren’t working so where did you go!”
She walked over to the dressing table and looked in the mirror trembling, “ I…I went to see my sister…she…she…she didn’t feel too well and I…I…”
“Just cut me the crap!,” he interrupted her. “ I went to see Tasha and she hasn’t seen you in a week. All this while you have been telling me you were with her. What are you hiding Gina? Why do you keep lying?”
Gina went silent. Hilton took off his belt and walked towards her, “ You better start talking lady.” Gina began to walk away trying to get away from him. “Babe…babe please just calm down I can explain…..I ….I went to see Champagne” His face changed immediately and he became even more bitter. “That slut!,” he unleashed as he marched towards her and started beating her with the belt. “Stay away from that prostitute!,” he kept repeating as he thrashed her. Gina cried lowly in fear of her children hearing her. Hilton scooped her off the floor and laid her on the bed before tearing her clothes off her body. “Hilton please just stop I don’t want this,” she cried trying to push him away. He slowly began to kiss her belly button, her very weakness as he lowered further down. With tears in her eyes she found herself passionately grabbing the monster, moaning. He rose and looked at her before hesitantly touching her lips with his, and she responded beautifully. Slowly he made love to her, as he stared into her black as ebony eyes. Hilton knew she was the love of his life and knew Gina would never cheat on him. She held on to the bed sheets as they both began panting rhythmically. As the two enjoyed, the twins began knocking on the door. “Mommy,Mommy!”they cried but daddy did not stop until he was certain he had pleased her. This was the third time he had done this, beating her up before making love to her. Hilton heaved a sigh as he rolled to the other side and covered his wife in bed sheets then dressed up and opened the door. “Mommy’s sick, let me call granny to come pick you up okay,” he said as he got out and carried the twins.
Juni was still unsettled about what had occurred. He kept calling his blind date but it was starting to be quite vivid, he was being ignored. Finally he sent Champagne a text, “ I have never been so disturbed in my life. I just want to apologize in person if I wronged you and to hope I never repeat the same error again. Please allow me to meet you.” It took him a lot of pride to get those words out to a total stranger. A lady he could not even get to know because she fainted. He barely found sleep since the very day. Juni’s mind kept revisiting the incident, trying to understand where he could have gone wrong. He yawned as he got out of bed and began doing his morning stretches. As he did his one hundred daily morning press up body exercises, someone knocked on his door. With a sigh he walked to the door and yanked it open, “Oh dad…please come in,” he uttered softly. The old man walked into the messy room and sank on a couch opposite the bed. “You should let Suzzy clean this house up before you create a certain disease here,” the old man mocked. Juni laughed and sat on the bed, “Come on dad, it’s not even that bad. Besides I can clean up my own room Suzzy has a lot of work to do already.” The old man leaned back, “She gets paid for it hence she should do it.” Silently Juni sprang up and walked to the restroom then returned and sat in the exact same position, facing the man that had made him a man. “So Mr. G. Bereau, to what do I owe a morning visit from the eagle that’s only seen once in a blue moon?” The old man cleared his throat and began to utter, “ I’m here to remind you that you haven’t achieved any of the deals I gave you. Why son?” Juni panted heavily, “I’m working on it dad. I told you I’m a clean man, no illegal dealings.” Mr. Bereau leaned forward as though to whisper a dark secret but all he whispered was, “ Time is money" Juni wiped the sweat that was starting to build below his eyes as he nodded. The pressure was starting to kick in, all he ever desired was to be the good son. He was not ready to give up on his new crown. He knew eventually he had to follow in his father’s footsteps. Juni just had not pictured being the bad guy anytime soon.
Hilton’s mother came and took her grand children to the park. Hilton heaved a sigh after saying his goodbyes. He locked the door and began climbing upstairs to his room. Hesitantly he opened the door, there she was, still curled below the sheets in the same position he had left her. He walked slowly to her and climbed the bed slowly as though trying not to wake a sleeping baby. Her body stiffened as he hugged her from her back. “I'm really sorry Gina,” he spluttered out. She was surprised too that he had gotten off his high horse. Slowly she turned to face him. She had the cute puppy eyes, that had swollen up from all the crying. “How did we get here again Hills? How did we get to you beating me up for your satisfaction?,” she asked as her eye bags began to tear up. He gently pulled her close and kissed her forehead, “ I promise you it won’t happen again. But please, stay away from that whore.” Gina frowned and nodded. She lay in his gym arms and he held her close. “But babe, how do you know about Champagne?,” Gina asked. Hilton cleared his throat, “ She’s a prostitute hence anyone who saw my wife with a prostitute would definitely tell me. I don’t want you to keep lying to me, the toxicity is just too much.” Gina nodded. Hilton was right. The two were no longer just high school sweethearts, they had two daughters to raise and a family to build.
Days went by and Champagne still had debts to pay and dodging her landlady was not becoming a fun game. She kept looking at the text Juni had sent debating with herself whether to go or not. Champagne had no choice as desperate times called for desperate measures. She wanted nothing to do with Juni but definitely needed his wallet to come to her redemption. Champagne texted back, “Let’s meet tonight for dinner.” It was as though Juni had been staring at his phone for a text from her as he responded in a jiffy. “ I will come pick you up at eight, send me your location,” he texted back. She smiled before replying, “Done.” For some reason Champagne felt her problems weigh done.
For the rest of the sunny day Champagne tried to get hold of her friend Gina but she seemed to have been away from her phone. At home Gina laid in bed and somehow felt guilty she had allowed him to get away with this again. Her husband had abused her and lured her to have s*x with him. For some reason she felt this was right and normal, but it absolutely was not. Hilton walked into the room and he could sense the tension that weighed the room down. He walked over to Gina and hugged her from behind, Gina felt some comfort and began to wonder what made her big teddy bear into a monster. “I know what you probably thinking. But I swear I didn’t mean to hurt you babe, honestly. “ Gina turned to face him and what she saw was the actual man she had married. Gentle, loving and caring, she looked into his eyes as she caressed her fingers on his face. “What’s happening to us babe. We’re back to fighting again. And you hurt me again, you promised you would never lay a finger on me but you did. I know I wronged you but you had no right to do that. You seem to enjoy beating me up and later satisfying yourself sexually.” Hilton looked at his beautiful wife and solemnly regretted what he had done even though it was not the first time. “ I’m sorry Gina,I don’t want us to fight. But please your relationship with that prostitute must end please. “ Hilton kissed her forehead and the two hugged passionately.
