Mitchell's Part "Mum, Dad…" Mitchell called out to her parents in a rather husky tone, making her parents turn around immediately, their eyes widened in surprise to know that Mitchell was behind them and wondered if she heard their conversation all along. "Can I go by myself to school today?" Mitchell asked, still in a husky tone, not sure whether her parents would accept or not. "What did you say?" Mrs Judy asked in a near nervous state, turning her gaze on her husband, Mr Jeffrey, who glanced at her, both of them feeling relieved and thankful that Mitchell didn't hear their conversation. "Please…" Mitchell said again, clapping her hands pleadingly in front of her parents. Since today was the beginning of her freedom, she thought she could also start going by herself to school without being taking to school by her driver. "Sure, you can, if that's what you want," Mrs Judy replied taking her husband's hand and lifting her gaze on him, gesturing for him to also give his consent. "Yes, you, but please be careful dear," Mr Jeffrey added almost immediately after his wife's approval. "I can?" Mitchell asked, sounding excited and peering at her parents who both nodded in agreement. "Thank you, mum, dad," Mitchell said cheerfully now, and giggling a little too and, turned to go back into her room. "That was close," Mrs Judy muttered, turning her gaze on her husband who patted her hand, feeling the same way. *** Mitchell rushed to stand beside her best friend Lily in school by her locker, brushing her shoulder a little with her palm, her eyes sparkling brightly and her lips curled up in laughter. "Mitchell?" Lily turned away from her locker almost immediately to gaze at her, wondering why she is acting so different this morning and full of excitement, "What's the matter, girl?" Lilly asked peering inquisitively at her with her brows slightly lifted seeing how she jiggled a little now, smiling broadly at her too. "Come on girl, don't tell me you have forgotten?" Mitchell pretended to furrow her brows at her friend, tilting her head backwards a little too. "Oh no!" Lily gasped almost immediately, lifting her hands to tap her head, "silly me," she said, smiling now too, as Mitchell started smiling again, seeing that she recalled. "Happy birthday girlfriend," Lily told Mitchell, spreading her arms apart and leaning forward to give her a hug. "Thank you," Mitchell jigged, embracing her friend. "Wow, girl, I didn't imagine you would be this happy because you are eighteen," Lily told her after letting go of her and closing her locker. She is already eighteen herself some few weeks back and wondered what was so special about turning eighteen for Mitchell to be this excited about it, could it be that she gained her freedom already as she had told her that her parents promised she would. "I didn't imagine that myself too, Lily," Mitchell told her, leading the way for then to go to their classroom, with Lily walking beside her, walking past some of the students too who also made their way to their classes. "But this birthday marks the beginning of my freedom, Lily," Mitchell told her almost in a whisper so that no one will her, still jiggling a little. "How do you mean, Mitchell?" Lily asked curiously, "Don't tell me your parents granted all your wishes already," she added, turning to gaze curiously at Mitchell for a while, still walking beside her towards their classroom. She knew how her friend was being restricted by her parents from very many things and sometimes finds it odd that they would do that to her like she was some toddler, and knew of so many things she wished for. She had told her that her parents promised to grant her freedom when she turned eighteen but she had being skeptical about it and never imagined it would happen. "You are right girl," Mitchell replied, stopping abruptly, making Lily to stop too, her lips slightly parted in disbelief, staring at Mitchell whose face glowed from excitement. "Are you serious?" Lily asked, recollecting herself almost immediately even though her eyes were still widened in disbelief. "Well, not all of my wished yet, but two of my wishes already, and that counts for something, " Mitchell replied, shrugging her shoulders a little, her smilies slowly fading away even though her face still showed excitement. "Wait, what?" Lily asked, wondering what that might be, still doubting the possibility of her parents allowing her to do as she pleased without interfering. "What wishes of yours have they granted already?" She added, still peering at her curiously. "Well, for the first time, my parents agreed to knock on my door before letting themselves into my room," Mitchell was saying excitedly when Lily interrupted. "What's that, Mitchell, my parents started knocking on my door a long time ago before walking into my room," Lily told her and continued walking towards their classroom with Mitchell tagging along, thinking that was a ridiculous wish to be excited about. "I know, Lily, but there's another," Mitchell told her seeing her disappointment. "Which is?" Lily asked without looking at her this time and wondered what it might be. "I have been asked to invite a friend to my birthday party tonight," Mitchell spat out almost immediately in excitement again. Lily stopped abruptly this time, surprised by what she just heard, staring at Mitchell in disbelief. Mitchell has never been allowed to celebrate her birthday with a friend before since she became friends with her. "Are you serious or you are making this up?" She asked, still peering at Mitchell in disbelief. "You heard me, and I would like that friend to be you, Lily," Mitchell told her, smiling broadly seeing how surprised she looked. "Seriously?" Lily asked, walking beside Mitchell again as she started moving. Lily's eyes widened with excitement when Mitchell nodded to her in response. She has longed wished to go to Mitchell's house and see what it's like inside her house as only the outside of the house looked like royalty already compared to her house. "But please do not tell the others alright, because I have only been allowed to invite just one friend," Mitchell told Lily, pausing by the door of their classroom. Lily nodded in agreement, feeling very excited to be the one Mitchell would invite for the first time to her house. "Alright girlfriend, I will let you know how we are going to meet after our classes are over," Mitchell told Lily again excitedly, but deep down she hoped that her birthday party turns out better than what it used to be years before, not only for her sake but also not to disappoint her friend, Lily, who would be visiting her house for the first time.
