Mitchell's part Mitchell slowly opened her eyes, awakened by the sun ray streaming into her room from the window curtain that was slightly opened last night before she fell asleep. She stretched out her hands smiling broadly now at the rising sun and the elegant brightness that comes with it. She loved everything about the sky except for cloudy days and that includes the sun, the stars and the moon. She likes to keep her window curtain slightly open whenever she wants to go to bed so that she could stare at the moon and stars until she falls asleep, and feel the brightness of the sun when it rises in the morning like today. She has been fascinated by the moon and stars since she was a little girl especially because of the beautiful story her parents told her about the moon most especially. When she was still little, her parents made sure to keep her window curtain slightly open when the moon rises and tell her that the moon is always there to watch over her, and even when it is cloudy at night, they would tell her the moon is taken cover somewhere in the cloud that's why she couldn't see it and that she should not be afraid of the dark night. It seemed like they believed so much in the moon and the dark shadows that came with it, but she loved the sun so much too even though her parents didn't seem to love it like she does, and feels like she was missing something special whenever it becomes cloudy. Mitchell is feeling very excited this morning especially because today is a very special day in her life, her parents Mr and Mrs Judy and Jeffrey Wilson had told her a lot about how her eighteenth birthday is going to look like and also how she is going to be allowed to take so many decisions for herself and today is that day. She turned towards her room door that suddenly went open to see her parents walking into her room with their faces filled with excitement, and her dad held a big cake in his hands. "Happy eighteenth birthday to my one and only princess," her dad, Mr Jeffrey said, slowly placing the cake on Mitchell's huge bed. "Happy birthday princess," her mum, Mrs Judy said too, spreading her arms apart and sitting on the corner of the bed waiting for Mitchell to return the gesture. Mitchell pulled away her blanket that was over her legs and crawled to embrace her mum, "Thanks mum, thanks Dad," Mitchell said, hugging her mum and dad who came to join in the embrace. "What's wrong princess?" Mrs Judy asked after they had released Mitchell from their embrace wondering why she suddenly made a face. "Mum, Dad, you promised that from today being my eighteenth birthday, I will be allowed to take decisions myself and you would treat me like an adult," Mitchell said, folding her arms under her breast and peering from her mum to her dad who both turned to gaze at each other wondering what she wants to say next, they knew their daughter, that she can be full of demands. "Yes, Mitchell," Mr Jeffrey said, his brows lifted, and gesturing to Mitchell to say what's on her mind. "Okay dad," Mitchell nodded, as she understood what his dad wanted from the look on his face and his gesture, "the first thing I want is for the both of you to always knock on my door before letting yourself into my room," Mitchell told them, looking so serious. "Ooh," Mrs Judy sighed, turning her gaze on her husband who lifted his brows a little to her in return, "we will see what we can do about that," Mr Jeffrey said, turning his gaze on Mitchell. "Dad?" Mitchell furrowed her brows, still making a face as that was not the response she wanted to hear. "Alright, I think me and your mum could manage that, right darling?" Mr Jeffrey replied, glancing at his wife who nodded in agreement even though it didn't quite sit well with her. "Thanks mum, Dad," Mitchell smiled broadly now revealing a set of bright white teeth and crawling towards her cake on the bed. "It's beautiful, can I have some of the cake now?" Mitchell asked teasingly even though she knew what her parents' answer would be. "Go brush your teeth first," her mum replied, rolling her eyes at her, followed by a smile, she knew Mitchell just wanted to tease them as this wasn't the first time. "But before you do that princess, we have something to tell you," Mr Jeffrey told Mitchell before she could step out of her bed. She turned to her parents and slowly took a seat on the bed, her eyes sparkling with curiosity wondering what her parents wanted to tell her. Mr Jeffrey turned his gaze briefly on his wife who nodded in agreement to what he wanted to tell Mitchell, they have spoken about it before now but he wanted to make sure again before spilling. "Look princess, I and your mum want today's birthday to be remarkable for you," Mr Jeffrey said rather slowly glancing at his wife again who still nodded to him. Mitchell stared with more curiosity, wondering what this is about, "Okay, Dad," she said, gesturing for him to continue. "Well, your mum and I want you to invite any of your friends from school home tonight for your birthday party," Mr Jeffrey said rather calmly, gazing at Mitchell whose pupils suddenly dilated. "Are you for real, Dad, mum?" She asked, sitting on her knees on the bed now, her brows lifted in surprise, all her life, she has never celebrated her birthday with a friend she knew of, it has always been with her parents and a bunch of grown ups she doesn't know quite well and it has always been a routine, even when she asked her parents if she could invite her friends from school, they would always turn her down saying it was for security reasons. "Yes princess, but you are allowed to bring just one friend," Mr Jeffrey replied. "And please, Sweetie, make it discreet, okay, can you do that?" Mrs Judy added, taking Mitchell's hands and peering into her eyes, "for security reasons," she added anticipating Mitchell's question from the look in her eyes. Mitchell nodded in agreement, feeling excited that her parents would allow her bring home one friend for the first in her life, this birthday is sure going to be remarkable, "thanks mum, dad," Mitchell told them and ran off to her wash room, she needs to get ready quickly for school as she can't wait to invite her best friend Lily to her birthday party, she wished though that she could invite more friends but as it is there is a beginning to everything and this is just the beginning of her celebrating her birthdays with her friends. "Are you sure that we have taken the right decision, darling?" Mr Jeffrey asked his wife after they left Mitchell's room, wondering if it was still a good idea that Mitchell tastes for the first time in her life the blood of her friend. "Yes, dear, you don't have to worry, our daughter is going to be alright, besides, it is necessary for the ritual to work, it needs to be the blood of a someone close to her," Mrs Judy replied to her husband. "She is our blood and a rare gem, when she finally tastes human blood, it will awaken the powers in her and bring her to her real essence," she added, gazing at her husband, who thinks his wife was going to the extreme to awake their daughter's powers by making her first kill the friend she would invite to her birthday party. "What if we are wrong, she has not shown any signs yet?" Mr Jeffrey asked again, his eyes filled with worry, "her kind usually shows their first sign at sixteen, but for Mitchell, it wasn't the case, we waited patiently for this day, you and I listened all through the night by her door but we heard nothing even with the moon high and bright," Mr Jeffrey told his wife, his face filled with worry. "I find it quite strange too darling, that is why I have decided that we use this method," Mrs Judy told her husband, pressing her lower lip as she recalled what she had read in the book she researched on about Mitchell's case. "I still think that we should provide the first blood for her ourselves instead of using her friend, you saw how happy she was in there, I fear that she would hate us after this," Mr Jeffrey expressed his fears to his wife, who pressed her lips together gazing intently at her husband. She knew what her husband feared may come to pass but she would do anything necessary to make Mitchell awaken her powers. "Look, darling, we cannot protect our daughter forever. At a point, she would need to defend herself from our enemies attack, that is why I am doing this, and besides, that's what is written in the book, I am confident that this is going to awaken her powers, we will commence the ritual tonight and hopefully, Mitchell will be reborn as all the powers hidden within her comes to light, also, she still has tonight as I have read in the books too, we still have hope darling," Mrs Judy said, softly patting her husband's palms. "Mum, Dad…" Mitchell called out to her parents in a rather husky tone, making her parents turn around immediately, their eyes widened in surprise to know that Mitchell was behind them and wondered if she heard their conversation all along.
