"Hi Sara, do you know who's calling?" a soft female voice was on the other end of the phone.
"Elaine, why do you call from a different number every time?" I raised my eyebrows as I leaned back against the corridor wall.
"Henry threw my phone out the window. I also wanted to let you know that we're going back to Claremont. Make sure you show up at Cassian's house after class cause we have news." Elaine's voice sounded calm.
"Great, it's about time, I'll see you later." I ended the call with a snap of my fingers.
I slipped the phone back into my jeans pocket before making sure that it was on silent mode. I lightly opened the door handle as I walked back to math class. I felt everyone's eyes linger on me for a moment. Ignoring them, I quietly went back to my desk. I sat on my chair opening my maths book. I could feel Chloe's questioning gaze fixed on me. I didn't want to talk right now, seeing the teacher's unhappy face. I cupped my chin with my hand, I didn't even feel my eyes move from the textbook to the window. I looked at the school park, where green trees swayed peacefully in the slight breeze. I tried to concentrate on the teacher's voice explaining the topic of the day but my brain refused to accept the new information. Instead, my thoughts returned to the name imprinted deep in my heart. My mind wandered between the small memories that remained. Those brown shining eyes that look at me with such concern. That smile that brightened my day every time it appeared on his face. The touches that made my heart beat fast. The hugs that made me feel at home, safe, calm and happy. I feel a faint nudge on my shoulder. I turned my angry face towards Chloe, who was staring at me with a questioning look.
"Who called?" Chloe raised her eyebrows with her chin on her hand, turning slightly towards me.
"Elaine. There's a meeting at Harrison's house after school." I smiled, my eyes flicking towards my textbook for a moment.
"One small step." Chloe instantly rose from her chair in delight.
Yes, this is the same ordinary Chloe who has a million emotions and isn't afraid to show them. Although this action put a smile on my face, things soon changed. My attention was immediately drawn to the teacher's raised. voice.
"Chloe, please follow the class rules." The teacher's fierce gaze was simply haunting Chloe.
"I'm sorry." Chloe's smile instantly disappeared from her face, and in a slow motion she sat back in her chair, her eyes fixed on her textbook.
I followed her example, not wanting to make our maths teacher angry. Just five minutes later, a nagging bell rang throughout the school, announcing the end of the lesson. I closed my maths book, put it in the very back of my backpack then I pushed myself out of my chair and walked straight towards the classroom exit. I wanted to end this yet another hectic day at school as soon as possible. I want it to be over, then I could give my full attention to more important things. Of course, Chloe and Cassian think that graduation should be my first concern.
"Come on, what's with the angry face?" Chloe clung to my arm as she walked beside me.
"I'm not mad, it's just that there's so much going on lately. I can't just enjoy life. The whole world seems to be falling apart around me." I sighed, glancing at Chloe out of the corner of my eye.
We walked with easy steps towards the next class. It's the chemistry classroom on the second floor of the school building.
"I'm sure Henry and Elaine will have great news." The corner of Chloe's lips turned up as we walked up the stairs to the second floor.
"Great news would be if they brought Dillan with them." I rolled my eyes as I stepped through the large doors, taking a right turn and heading straight in the corridor leading to the chemistry classroom.
"From what you've told me, I don't think Dillan's going to turn up that soon. You know, the whole black magic thing." Chloe crossed her arms over her chest as she paused at the classroom door.
"I guess you’re right. That's what Cassian told me about his mother, Erina, who was possessed by black magic. I saw Dillan in the tower that night, completely different. When Nikita held me by the neck to throw me off the tower. Dillan just gave me a dazed look, not a muscle in his face showed that he cared about me.He seemed to be a stranger." I sighed as I opened the classroom door.
"What about the part where Cassian ran away because his mother couldn't be saved?" Chloe turned over her shoulder as she walked through the classroom door.
"I won't give up Chloe, I love Dillan, I'll find a way to get him back." I shook my head as I turned towards my desk.
"I know Sarah, I'll always be there for you. Just as you didn't give up on me, I won't give up on you." Chloe squirmed in her chair, smiling widely.
"Have you planned your night for the Prom Dance?" Chloe turned her head towards me, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't want any school events..." I rolled my eyes as I pulled my textbook out of my backpack.
" You can't miss the prom. Sarah, it's a celebration." Chloe repeated it twice as if one reminder wasn't enough.
"I'm not going anywhere. Dillan was supposed to be my date." I stared at Chloe, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I've already been asked. I don't want you to be at home alone. You have to keep me company." Chloe gave me a sad look that should have made me change my mind.
"Who's your date?" When did you manage to find your other half?" I stared at Chloe with big eyes, trying not to change the topic of conversation.
"Sarah Willow your tricks won't work. You have one day to get away from it all. I had invitation from David.“ Chloe took her hand to her chin and averted her eyes out the window for a moment.
"The same David I've been thinking about? How? When?" Chloe's answer made me think hard.
"David reached me after that night at the bonfire." Chloe frowned slightly.
"You have a crush on David? How did he ask you if we’re from different schools?" I raised my eyebrows, trying to put all my thoughts back together.
"Well of course, David - is already a graduate. But he would be honoured to accompany me to the prom. Even though I know that's not possible, I can easily change that." Chloe looked at me with her big eyes.
"Of course your little tricks." I sighed, lifting the corner of my lips.
The school bell rang loudly to announce the start of class. My eyes darted swiftly at the white clock on the wall. It was still ten o'clock in the morning. I wonder how I will be able to get through the rest of the day without dying of boredom. I put my head on the bench and closed my eyes for a moment. I could feel my body relaxing little by little though I didn't want to sleep. A loud knock on the door made me lift my head from the bench. My eyes immediately met the teacher's eyes, which looked tired. And then I shifted my gaze to Chloe who was just as bored as I was. I had to think of something, then all of a sudden, a brilliant idea popped into my head.
"Pss Chloe." I whispered quietly as I poked Chloe in the shoulder with my pen.
"What is it?" Chloe angrily pouted; that probably that hurts.
"Let's go to Cassian's house. The house will be empty for just the two of us until Henry and Elaine get back. I know where they're hiding the wine." I raised an eyebrow, smiling slightly.
"The oldest bottle will be mine." Chloe's face instantly broke into a huge smile.
"It's a deal, you just need to talk to the teacher." I pointed to the teacher who was explaining something to the paper on the table of chemical elements.
"Teacher, can I talk to you behind the door for a minute? Personal reasons." Chloe raised her hand as she sat in her desk.
"Sure, let's go Chloe." A few wrinkles appeared on the teacher's forehead.
Few minutes later, the teacher and Chloe disappeared behind the classroom door. Slowly, I put my book in my backpack. I knew that when the teacher would go back to class I would be free. The door handle opened with a creak and the teacher stepped through, her gaze fixed on me. She nodded her head towards the door, letting me go. I don't know what Chloe had gotten into her, but we made it. After silently thanking her, I grabbed my backpack, threw it over my shoulder and walked towards the classroom door. I silently closed the door behind me, and Chloe was already standing there with big smile. I held my hand up in the air to give her a high five. We laughed as quietly as possible, then took slow steps down the school corridor.
"What did you say to the teacher?" I turned to Chloe, smiling slightly.
"That my uncle died, who I don't even have. It didn't take much effort." Chloe shrugged her shoulders and smiled broadly.
We made our way through the school corridors at a fast pace towards the main school exit. Before that, there were the stairs leading to the first floor of the school, and the huge hall just before the exit door. Gradually, my thoughts turned back to loneliness and feelings. I eagerly wanted to know what Elaine and Henry had found out as soon as possible even if it was the smallest hint of information. I hoped they would be back before my lessons were over. Although I'll be comfortably ensconced in Cassian and Dillan's house by the time they cross the threshold.
"We'll probably take the route through the park?" Chloe turned to me as she pushed open the school door.
"Of course it'll be quicker." I climbed the steps towards the school path leading to the park.
"Are you thinking of moving into Dillan's house? Well, I know you could be closer to everything then." Chloe took a slow step beside me.
"Not until Dillan is found. I really don't want to live in the same house as Cassian. I'm fine in my own house, I'm an adult and no one's throwing me out." I shrugged and glanced at Chloe.
"So where do the Harrison brothers hide the wine?" Chloe's eyes sparkled as she looked out into the park.
"I'll show you when we get there." I stuck my tongue out and calmly counting the tiles under my feet.
I'm definitely not going to drink alcohol during the day. I'm well aware that Chloe's alcohol intake helps to quench the thirst for blood for a little. For me, alcohol helps to relieve the pain in my chest, but only for a very short time. After fifteen minutes on the long road, my feet finally reached Dillan's backyard. All Most of the time Chloe and I were discussing what Elaine and Henry might have found out. Then I finally put my feet up on the step and squatted down on the mat by the door. Lifting one of my legs, I pulled a small key from the main door. Cassian showed me where the key was if I need to visit their house for whatever purpose it would be. I pushed the door of the house harder and the wall hit it with a thud. I entered the house, went straight to the fireplace and the sofa. When I was close enough, I stretched out my hand towards the fireplace and whispered a spell. The tongues of fire were soon devouring the pieces of wood piled in the fireplace. I knelt on the sofa, my eyes were fixed on the fireplace for a moment.
"Come on, don't be lazy, where's the wine?" it was Chloe's voice .
I'll probably never get used to these little vampire tricks. Of course I winced as I jumped up from my sofa. I turned my confused eyes to Chloe.
"Stop teasing me. Let's go, I show you their basement." I smiled as I got up from the couch.
With a quick tug, I headed to the kitchen which I knew had a small door that leds to a small wine cellar. I had managed to find that out the night of my birthday party in this house. Behind the fridge I saw a small white door. I pushed it open with one heavy foot, then ran my fingers over the light switch. A small staircase led down to a dark basement. Of course, the lighting was a bit of a relief, but the surroundings were still not very cozy. I could feel Chloe's increased breathing behind me.
"Aren't you afraid of the basement?" I turn to look into Chloe's eyes.
"I'm not fascinated by spiders and all the other creatures lurking in there." Chloe's big eyes flickered on me.
I put my first foot on the step leading to the dimly lit basement. I could hear the old stairs creak, sending shivers down my spine. Then there was a second step, and a third, and I could feel that I was climbing alone, and Chloe was not around. I turned my head over my shoulder to see why she wasn't following me. I could see her forehead furrowed and her eyes squinted into one spot behind me. In one slow motion, she flicked a strand of hair behind her ear, then turned her eyes directly on me.
"There's someone in this house, I can hear a footstep." Chloe's eyes looked confused.
"Are you kidding? Where are you hearing footsteps?" I held my breath for a moment, trying to listen to my surroundings.
"Does my face look like I having fun? In the living room." Chloe's eyes darted towards the kitchen door.
I put my feet on the step as quickly and as silently as possible. I wanted to get to Chloe as soon as possible, and find out who was in this house. It was too early for Henry and Elaine to return, and Cassian was busy with his own business. As soon as I reached the last step, I closed the cellar door behind me. My eyes immediately went to the door leading directly into the living room. Although I tried to use my hearing, it turned out to be worthless. With a blink of an eye, a male silhouette appeared just a few metres in front of my eyes.I almost felt myself starting to scream but then I recognized this male form.
