Mackenzie Bell sat on a blanket in the park, enjoying time with her family. Her three sons, all elementary-school age, were on a playset jumping around and being silly. She dug into the blue, long-handled cooler, getting out the food for their late-afternoon picnic.
Her husband, Kevin, sat with her, keeping his attention on their children. Both of them treasured their family time.
Kevin worked in the 911 call center as a dispatcher, so it was uncommon for them to have time like this, as they both had irregular and often conflicting work schedules. Therefore, this time in the park, after school as a family, was a special event.
An audible tone sounded from Mac’s cell phone. The couple both recognized the sound that all work-related calls made.
“Are you on call this week?” Kevin asked.
