The following morning, the two detectives gathered with their supervisor once more to review the case. As Mac walked into the conference room, she saw her partner seated at the table. “It’s nice of you to join us today,” she said drily. From his seat at the table, Dan explained, “I was with the kids at the aquatic center. I put my phone in a locker while I swam. By the time I saw the message and called in, the scene had been cleared.” Not done teasing, Mac said, “You must have been in the water a long time.
