A New Threat
The cold damp air whipped around the looming figure in the distance as he stared at the small cottage. A place he remembered all too well. He slowly took a drag from his cigarette. She was back in Scotland. It had to be Isabell as he immediately felt his heart yearn for her, and something awaken in the depths of his soul. Ambrose’s eyes darken with the thought of the last time he saw her over 300 years ago. Her beautiful green eyes, and silky honey blonde hair as it slipped through his fingers. The smell of her skin of vanilla and lavender. They would be together now if it wasn’t for that pirate scoundrel Murdoch that came between them. Ambrose has searched for her for what seemed like forever. Always close but never close enough. He was only ever able to get a bead on Murdoch with the help of Jayden. Jayden was to be betrothed to Murdoch until the fates intervened. She was a witch of the worse kind but was never able to charm Murdoch after he met Isabell. He knew that Jayden was able to follow Murdoch into the present and his only hope was that Murdoch and Isabell’s souls would reconnect so then he would be able to find her again. He hated the thought of needing Murdoch for anything, but it was a means to and end if he was going to get what he wanted.
A sultry voice from behind him suddenly spoke. “So did you become a stalker now along with being a warlock?” Ambrose turned around and to his surprise Jayden stood there in all her glory with her long red hair flowing around her.
“So Jayden, where have you been for the last 10 years? What rock did you crawl out from under?” She snickered at him, “Oh we have much to discuss my friend. That little b***h of yours sent back to the underworld for the last 10 years and now I have awoken knowing she is here with Murdoch. Ambrose, she has the ring.”
Ambrose’s one brow rose up as he said, “Well now, that makes things a bit more interesting, doesn’t it? So, you came up against her and did not inform me?”
She said, “I was unable to do anything, as she used the ring on me. However, she has no idea who she is for that matter. No memory of being Isabell. It’s as if both Isabell and Murdoch were reborn as new beings with no memories of the past. Her name is Leigh Reese. She is a healer in this life as well and very unaware of her current powers, which we could use to our advantage. Murdoch is now known as Shawn Walker and somehow, he was able to reconnect with her. I almost had him Ambrose, he was almost mine. I should have killed that little b***h when I had the chance!”
Ambrose suddenly moved ever so quickly and wrapped his hand around her throat. His grip so tight he could feel her swallow. Her eyes wide with fear. “If anything happens to Isabell, I will end you. Do you understand me. I can erase you from existence and will not hesitate to do so.” He loosened his grip on her throat, “Do you understand Jayden?” She stuttered, “Yeesss Ambrose, but Shawn Walker belongs to me, so we shall work together.” Then she snaked her arms around his neck and with a smirk said to him, “In the meantime, no reason we can’t be friends with benefits, right?” Ambrose smiled, “You will do for now, but understand, you are like all the others, a means to end Jayden.” Then his mouth claimed hers and they disappeared in the night.
Leigh was dreaming that she was in a field under the moonlight smiling up as she looked upon the stars. As she stood under the moon, she could feel the cool breeze wrap itself around her body sending a shiver through her. Across the field in the moonlight, she could see a dark figure walking towards her. She smiled as she slowly moved forward and then she heard the name Isabell called out to her. She stopped in her tracks suddenly feeling frightened. Something felt wrong. Isabell….. come to me….
She stood there unable to move and just that suddenly the figure was upon her with dark eyes looking down into her soul…. the only word she heard was Mine…
Suddenly she was awake lying so stiff that she could barely move. Slowly she turned to see Shawn lying next to her sleeping so soundly. Why was she so afraid, it was just a dream? Trying not to wake Shawn, she collected herself and slowly got up from the bed and decided a good cup of Camille tea would be just what she needed. Silently slipping down the wooden stairs to the kitchen she put some water on to boil. While she waiting, she looked closer around her surroundings, running her hand across the fireplace mantel in the kitchen. As she slid her hand across the timbers she felt some type of familiarity to her, like she did this same movement before. She smiled thinking to herself how her and Shawn had literally done nothing but make love and sleep for the entire first day of her trip. He was so beautiful she just could not get enough of him. Those blue eyes like pools of enchanted water made her breathless. Just then the tea pot came to a boil and she quickly poured the hot water in her cup. Once her tea was made, she looked out the window across the field lit up by the moon. Something caught her attention, like a soft glow and then it was gone…..like a cigarette maybe? Was someone watching her… She stepped away from the window and thought to herself when it gets light out, she would have to take a walk out there to see for herself if anyone was there.
For now, she pushed it to the back of her mind and walked into the living area. She started a fire in the hearth and then sat on a chair with a shawl around her shoulders. Sipping her tea, and staring into the flames of the fire, she could not wait until Shawn and her could really sit and get caught up. She had so many questions to ask him. As her thoughts ran away with her, sleep soon came upon her. Tomorrow they had much to discuss.
