Chapter 4

[Rosa] There was pain around me and many voices. Along with a strong, but familiar voice yelling at people. I could make out words like “pup, Omega, and rip your heads off.” It was about the pups. I had to tell them not to hurt them. They did nothing wrong. There was so much pain and I didn’t want to open my eyes, but my wolf was encouraging me to get up. Soon tender sparks were coming from my arm and the familiar voice was speaking to me. It was my mate! I had to open my eyes. Slowly, through pain I could open my eyes. I looked directly into my mates auburn eyes. I tried to get up but hands stopped me, “Please Queen Luna, you are still very injured. We have yet to return to the palace.” It was the Beta, Irina. My head was laying on her legs. Queen Luna? Who? Me? Well that was going to take some time getting used to. I shook those thoughts away when I remember the reason why I had to wake up. I tried to move again and try to reach my mate. He was looking away, but soon as I tried to grab his hand and he quickly responded, “Please don’t hurt the pups and Omegas. They did nothing wrong.” My voice was weak, but my mate had good ears. “I would never hurt them. I just want to find them so they can come with us to Royal Pack. They don’t belong here anymore. They are welcome and wanted in our pack,” the King Alpha softly spoke to me. I had heard stories of the King, but I was not expecting this sweet and kind of a many. Along with how young he looked, he was probably a couple years older than me. I sighed with relief and then relaxed. It was then when I realized Irina had helped me sit up when I reached for my mate. Now that I was assured for the pups and Omegas safety, I lost that little bit of strength. She quickly helped me lay back down. I whimpered in pain as my ribs struggled. My mate, still holding my hand, spoke softly to me, “We have you now. You can rest, my mate. You can rest.” I had to let him know where the pups and Omegas were. It was getting harder to breathe with my ribs, but I pushed through and spoke to my mate, “They are.. they are in the … the attic. The Luna… kept us.. there. Please..” The last thing I saw was my worried mate eyes as darkness took over once again. — — — — — — [Damon] My mate fainted once again and I felt more worried then I ever had been in my entire life. I could feel her getting weaker. We needed to get her back to the palace immediately. It was going to be difficult, but I think with her and Robin on my back, it would be faster than any car. I kissed my mate’s hand and stood up. “Nigel, Victor.” My Beta and Delta quickly came over. “We need to get my mate back to the palace immediately, but we can’t leave this place like how it is now. Nigel, I want you to get all of the pups and Omegas and get them to the palace. You will have to take a car since many of them have not shifted. Go to the boy, Mitch, my mate trusts him.” I look toward Irina, “I need you to take the four prisoners to the palace by car as well. Take as many warriors and sentinels with you as needed.” I looked at Victor, “I need you to take care of things here and get people packing. They are either moving to a new pack or choosing the rogue life. Either way, they cannot stay here.” I turned to Robin last, “Robin, you are going to ride on my back with my mate. I don’t want her falling off and the only way to get to the palace the fastest is by my wolf. I trust you to protect her.” The four of them responded, “Yes, King Alpha.” They bowed their heads in respect as well. We moved as quickly as we could. I took my mate from Irina and I could feel how weak and small she was. She was definitely malnourished. My wolf growled internally, but I calmed down. Getting angry was not going to help my mate. Victor, Robin, and I went outside and I carefully handed my mate to Victor. Victor would help Robin safely secure my mate on my back. Robin was tall for a female, and a very strong fighter, but she was the best caretaker that I had ever witnessed. I knew she could protect and save my mate. I shifted into wolf form and sat down to let Robin on my back. Once she was secure, Victor handed Robin my mate. I could feel her soft heartbeat. It was weak, but still trying strong. I howled and then started running. Some warriors and sentinels followed in-suit. They would help in any rogues or other beings got in our way. They tried to keep up with my pace, but even with two people on my back, I was still faster than them. It wasn’t long until we arrived at the palace. Many of my pack members whispered and wonder what was going on. I usually would shift before returning to the center of the city, but there was no time. One of the warriors who joined us, shifted back to his human form and helped Robin with my mate. Robin handed my mate to the warrior and soon jumped down. I shifted back to human. One of the close warriors handed me a pair of shorts. Soon enough, Marcello, my head sentinel, Rolland, my head hunter, and Colleen, my head hunter arrived to greet us. They would stay at the palace when both my Betas and Deltas would join me to check up on a pack. They were almost Delta rank in my pack and easily could be Beta’s in another pack, but they kept with me after my father passed. Marcello bowed and spoke to me, “King Alpha where are the others?” I spoke quickly and angrily, “I don’t have time for this. I found my mate and she was one of the tortured at Shadow Fang. We need to get her to the medical wing immediately.” I went over the warrior who still had my mate and he immediately, but carefully, placed my mate into my arms. She stirred slightly, she didn’t wake and I could feel that she was in pain. I growled and headed for the medical wing. Robin and the others quickly on my tail. We made it to the medical wing and I placed my mate on the bed. Robin took over from there. I tried to see what was going on, but Robin stopped me, “Alpha, I know you want to be by her side, but I need some space. Please wait outside. I promise I will do everything in my power to save the Luna. You can count on me.” I growled at her when she stopped me from getting closer to my mate, but when I looked into her determined eyes, I knew I had to back down. I just wanted to be by my mate’s side, but I would be a bother and get in her way. I nodded and left the room. Not without softly kissing my mate’s forehead. Marcello and Rolland joined me. Colleen had some medical knowledge, so she stayed to help. I sat down on one of the chairs. Marcello started speaking, “King Alpha, I know this must be a difficult time for you, but we need to know what happened at Shadow Fang. I apologize.” I sighed and then told the sentinel and the hunter what happened at Shadow Fang. There were some gasps as I continued the story and I could see the hurt in their eyes. After I finished speaking, Rolland spoke calmly, “For the orphaned pups and the Omegas, I believe the elders, who live in the Palace would love to take care of them. They keep hounding us to let them do something, but many of them are getting to old to be useful in the field. Their knowledge is truly a blessing, but sometimes they can be a pain in the butt. I would know, one of them is my grandmother.” I smiled at his slight joke and responded tiredly, “I think that is a good idea. Notify Nigel of the idea and contact the elders. Knowing how fast Nigel works, they should be arriving in a couple hours or so. I trust you and Nigel to take care of them until they all have a good place to live. They have been hurt for too long. When I bonded with my mate, even without the mark, I was engulfed with all of her memories.” I paused because my wolf was emitting a strong wave of anger and it was hard to stop myself from throwing something. I felt the need to protect my mate, but I know I had to stay of the way for the time being. I continued speaking, “The same was for her with my memories. I saw what she had to go through with and in all this time, she kept taking care of those pups and Omegas. She is truly a kind soul.” They smiled and Rolland responded, “Yes, Alpha. I will contact the elders immediately. I wish the Luna a safe recovery.” He bowed and left the room. Marcello started speaking again, “What shall we do with the Shadow Fang traitors?” As the head sentinel, he was also in-charge of the dungeon. My anger returned as the people who hurt my mate were brought into the conversation again. I angrily told him, “For the time being they will be in the palace’s dungeons. They need to suffer as much as my mate and those pups suffered. I will decide a time when judgement will come for those four. It may be within the year or it may be a couple years. I really don’t care. They deserve what they are going to get.” I saw him flinch with every word I spoke. Normally, Marcello could hold himself in my presence, but I guess finding my mate increased my power and my presence. I continued in my Alpha tone, “I want you to make sure they pay. Irina is bringing them to the palace. I want you to be there when they arrive and immediately do your worst.” At the last part he stopped flinching and I could see the darkness in his eyes. He probably was already coming up with ideas to torture these now rogues. I could see the smirk in his eyes and I’m glad I have him on my side. He responded, “Yes Alpha, with pleasure.” He bowed and left to start preparations for his new prisoners. I slightly laughed at his change in personality. Marcello was a great man, but after years and years working in the dungeons, it might have gotten to him. He was a power sentinel and years ago he started out on patrol like most sentinels. However, with the increase of rogues and prisoners from dirty packs, my father chose a certain few to be the keepers of the dungeons. To be a good sentinel, you had to have a good sense of right or wrong. It was why they were put in-charge instead of the power crazy warriors or the statistical thinking trackers. Each had their good and bad points, but each made great members of my pack. I sighed and waited until Robin would let me in. It wasn’t until a couple minutes that I realized my eyes were starting to drift off. I guess I was tired, so I just closed my eyes. — — — Time Skip — — — I woke up to a hand tapping my shoulder. I was still on the chair, but there was blanket draped over me. When did that happened? How long had it been? Was my mate ok? I immediately bulleted from the chair and the hand that tapped on my shoulder was now helping me from falling on my face. Probably not the best idea to stand quickly after sleeping for who knows how long. I could feel my wolf chuckling at my stupidly. I looked to the hand that helped me and I realized it was Nigel. “Nigel? When did you get back? How long had I fallen asleep. I thought it was only a couple minutes or so. It couldn’t have been that long…” My voice trailed off. He laughed slightly, “It’s been about four hours since you returned to the palace. I returned only an hour ago. Rolland is helping the pups and Omegas get settled with the Elders. Robin told me you passed out on the chair and told me to wake you when she was finished with the Luna.” Once I heard the last bit, I tried to enter the room. Nigel stopped me, “Just wait a minute their Damon. I know you want to see your mate, but I think you need to eat something first.” I growled in response and angrily spoke in my Alpha tone, “No, I need to see her first. I don’t care. Let me go before I bite your head off.” With that, he immediately let go of me and I entered the room. Robin was next to my mate’s bed. I went over and I looked at my mate. I noticed the color in her face was much better than the last time I saw her. There was an oxygen mask covering her petite face and some IV tubes were connected to her as well. She looked so weak, but not as weak as before. I sighed with relief when I saw my mate breathing. Robin spoke from the side, “Alpha, I’m not surprised Nigel couldn’t get you to eat something. I have a nurse bring you something. As for the Luna, she is doing a lot better. I was able to fix her ribs and with her natural healing, it has started to heal properly. However, it seems like her healing is not as fast as most wolves. She is malnourished as well, so that might be the reason as to why she can’t heal as fast. Her arm is healing as well. I was able to clean away the silver burns and the wound closed up itself. The thing we need to keep an eye on is her breathing. In time, once her ribs heal completely, we can take her off the oxygen, but just for now she needs the mask. She is very weak Alpha, but her heart and will is very strong.” Robin ended with putting a hand on my arm. It was comforting and I thanked her. I then sat down and waited for my mate to wake up. I was not going to leave her side until I saw those pretty blue eyes once again.
