Chapter 5

[Rosa] Once again, I woke to pain, but this time it wasn’t as bad. I could hear machines around me and could feel something surrounding under my nose. It must have been an oxygen tube because I could breathe evenly and the cool air coming from the tube was helping me breathe. I felt groggy and I just wanted to go back to sleep, but there was some need to wake up. My wolf was tugging at me to wake up.  Soon the current events raced through my mind and my eyes shot open. I had to see the pups and Omegas. Were they okay? My heart pounded hard especially when I could not understand where I was. I knew it was medical wing, but where? I tried to get up, but soon a strong arm stilled my movements. The shocks hit my skin with a warm sensation and I knew it was my mate. He spoke to me, “Easy there, my mate. You are still injured. Just relax. No one here will ever hurt you. No one will ever hurt you again. I promise you that.”  I could hear the sincerity in his tone and it calmed my heart. I stopped trying to get out of the bed. The way he said ‘my mate’ sent my wolf howling and tingles down my body. He took my hand once he knew I would not try to get up again. I tried to speak, but my voice was dry and it only caused a coughing fit. He quickly helped me get a drink of water. I tried again, “Thank you…. Are the pups and Omegas from my pack okay? I need to know if they are alright.”  My heart started to race a little, but soon he was rubbing his thumb on my hand in a soothing motion. He smiled and responded gently, “Yes, they are fine. I had my Beta, Nigel personally take care of them. They are now living with the Elders here in the palace. I know you must be worried about them, but trust me when I say they are in good hands. Now before you ask anymore questions, I have one for you my beautiful mate.” He paused and we made eye contact. I tried to pull away from the years of beatings and of being told never to look the Alpha in the eyes. He stopped me and took my face gently, “What is your name?”  My wolf slightly laughed when she realized that I never gave my mate my name. Everyone knew the King Alpha, but I was just a nobody. “It’s Rosamund or Rosa, King Alpha.”  He smiled, “Rosamund! What a beautiful name! Also you can call me Damon. I am your mate and you are my sweet Luna.”  “Damon,” I softly spoke the name and it sent shivers down my spine. He took my hand again and we just looked at each other.  Soon enough, my stomach started to growl and he laughed slightly, “Well I guess you might be hungry. I’ll go get you something,” he started to go away but I grabbed his hand. For some reason, I didn’t want him to go away. This place was still foreign to me and I just needed his presence. My wolf was calling to him even more than usual. He took my hand again and with his other hand he soothed my arm in a calming motion, “It’s okay. I won’t go. I can mind-link someone to get something. I won’t leave you.”  His eyes glassed over slightly and I had a feeling he was mind-linking with someone. His eyes changed back and he smiled at me, “Robin, my Delta, will bring us something. She’s kind of mad that I still haven’t eaten anything too.” He laughed and it was like a sweet melody. I looked closer at him and I noticed that he had dark bags under his eyes and he seemed to be tired. I felt the need to ask about him. He worried me. I asked, “When was the last time you slept?”  He responded sheepishly, which was kind of funny to see the King Alpha act this way, “Well you have been unconscious for almost two weeks. During that time, I barely left your side. I just couldn’t leave you. I’ve been so worried about you and I was afraid. I thought I was going to lose you even though I just found you. I almost ripped the entire Shadow Fang pack with my hands.”  The two weeks kind of shocked me, but when I saw the sadness and anger in Damon’s eyes, my heart ached. I tried to reach out for him, but only ended up grunting as I jarred my still sore ribs. He tried to stop me, but I pushed him aside. I was able to get into a sitting position. Even with the oxygen, and IV tubes that surrounded me, I wanted to get closer to my mate. He moved onto the side of the bed, he had been in the chair beside the bed. I moved closer to him and he gently put a hand around my shoulders. I could feel him taking in my scent and soon he was becoming calmer. I took in his scent as well and my wolf and his wolf were becoming like one. Our bond was strong even though he has yet to mark me. Something tells me, my abilities were getting stronger. I wanted to tell him everything.  I slightly pushed away from him to look into his dark auburn eyes, “I have to tell you something.”  “Anything,” my mate responded. “Do you know the Legend of the Silver Wolf?”  “The story tale that many elders tell pups, especially she-wolves to bring their spirits up. That legend?” He questioned.  I nodded sheepishly, “Well what if I could tell you that it was true?”  He slightly laughed and then he stopped, “Wait, you’re serious.”  I had a feeling it was going to sound silly, so with what strength I could muster, I took my hands away from his and called fire.  Damon gasped, “Wait… what? I thought only witches could use magic? How?”  “I’m that silver wolf,” I responded quietly. The flames went out and I could feel my strength disappearing again, “I wish I could show you more, but with my current state, I can’t use that much magic. It doesn’t take much energy away, but at Shadow Fang the Luna and Alpha forced me to use my abilities to do anything they wanted. With overuse of my abilities, it causes all of my strength to be depleted. I even had to heal any warriors that came to me. I had to prepare stupid things to please them…  If I didn’t… they would hurt the pups. I just couldn’t let that happen. The Luna also wouldn’t let me shift until daylight and even then, it was limited.” I didn’t realize I was crying until I felt the hot tears come from my eyes. He wiped them away and soon he gently took me in his arms. He was careful of the tubes and wires. He leaned against the bed and I just took in his strength. My mate calmly spoke, “I won’t ever let that happen again. You can shift whenever you want and I will always be there to protect you. I won’t let anyone use your abilities against you. My parents would tell me the legends and sometimes I didn’t believe them, but when you looked at me and your eyes went white, I knew you were special. I will protect you no matter what.”  I took in each word as he spoke and it relaxed both me and my wolf. We just laid down on the bed and didn’t speak for a little bit. We just took in each other’s presences. I listened to his heartbeat and soon my eyes were starting to droop. I looked at him and he was feeling the same way, however, there was a knock at the door out of instinct, I tensed. Damon started rubbing circles on my back to help sooth my tense muscles and spoke to me, “It’s alright. It’s probably Robin with the food. I know you must be tired, but you need to eat something.”  I smiled and then responded, “You too.”  He laughed and then responded to the knock, “Who is it?” A sweet female voice answered, “Alpha, it’s just Robin and Nigel with me as well. Is it alright if we come in?”  Damon looked at me and I nodded. He allowed the Delta and Beta come in and I could feel my body tense up. I know that I was safe with my mate, but years of torture just made my body react in certain ways.  Robin was a tall, but slender women with light blonde hair and green eyes. Nigel was tall and very muscular, not as much as Damon, but still pretty strong. The male Beta had dark brown hair and grey eyes. They both looked like sweet people. I could feel their warm energy coming from them. I didn’t feel like they could harm me and soon my body relaxed. Damon noticed felt my body relaxing and then nodded to the two to come forward.   Robin came over to the bed and put the tray on the side. She smiled, “It’s nice to finally meet you Queen Luna. I’m Robin. You seem to be doing a lot better.”  I responded, “Please call me Rosa, and thank you.”  She looked at Damon and he nodded. I wondered why she needed his approval and soon my mate spoke to me, “In casual situations, the Betas and Deltas can refer to our first names, but we still have to keep authority. I know you probably aren’t used to the title, but you will get used to it.”  I nodded and then my stomach growled again, I blushed a bright red. Robin smiled and then tried to hand me the tray. I was still on top of my mate, so it was kind of awkward. So, Damon soon carefully adjusted us, so that I was leaning against him while he was against the bed. It helped since I couldn’t really keep my body up by myself. After we settled, Robin spoke again and handed me the tray, “I have some healthy, but simple things for you to eat. Please try to eat a little bit, but if you start to feel nauseous or full just let know. You are still malnourished, so it will take some time for you to get used to eating a decent amount of food again. Do you have any allergies?”  I tried to think of the last time I ate something where it caused a reaction and then it came to me, “I think I have an allergy to nuts. Especially peanuts. When I was younger, before my parents...my parents...,” memories of my parents flooded through my mind and I couldn’t hold back the tears. It’s been awhile since I had to remember something about myself. My old pack didn’t care about me like that.  Damon saw my tears and gently wiped them away. I could feel the sparks from his touch felt good and soon myself and my wolf were calming down. I slightly leaned into his touch and he placed his hand on my back so that our skins were touching each other. I tried to continue but words wouldn’t come out. Damon spoke, “It’s alright, my sweet. I know it must be hard memories to bring back. Just know that you are safe here and that you can open up to us when you have the time. You don’t have to speak now.”  I tried again and this time, my voice came out, “Thank you, but I want to tell you.” I looked deeply into my mate’s eyes, “I want to tell the Betas and Deltas. I don’t know why, but I trust them.” My voice was strong and it surprised myself and my mate. I could feel power surging through my muscles and my blood.  Robin and Nigel looked at me with curious eyes.  Damon smiled at me, “Okay, I understand. You can let them know, but first eat something.”  I nodded and started eating a little bit. Damon started eating as well. He was a fast eater and he was finished eating a lot faster than I did. Robin and Nigel had brought some food for themselves as well. It was nice to eat with everyone. Plus the was really good, but soon my stomach was not feeling the best. I slowly stopped eating, and Robin noticed this, “Is the food not good? We can make something else?”  “No, it’s perfect. It’s really good, but I don’t think I can handle it. My stomach is starting hurt and I feel a bit nauseous. Thank you though,” I replied with a smile. I felt bad that I couldn’t eat all of the wonderful food that they gave to me. I continued, “I’m sorry that I can’t finish the food.”  Robin smiled at me, “It’s alright, Rosa. You don’t have to be sorry. Everyone knows that you can’t eat that much right now. Plus I think Damon can finish what is left on your plate. He kind of eats a lot.”  “Well I am an Alpha and an Alpha has to eat a lot,” Damon responded and I slightly laughed. Seeing Damon joke around with his Delta and Beta was a really interesting sight. My idea of the Alpha King was definitely not the man in front of me. I laughed some more, the others joined in as well. However, all of the laughing and being up was starting to hurt my chest. Being with my mate had made almost all of my pain go away. I hardly noticed the oxygen below my nose, but the laughing didn’t help. I stopped laughing and started coughing instead. I held my chest. It was hard to breathe all of a sudden.  “Rosa?” I heard my mate say, but it was kind of muffled. It was like was further away from me, but he hadn’t moved as.  I could see Robin and Nigel moving around and Damon had moved off the bed. I think I was now laying down and the oxygen that was under my nose disappeared. My head was really foggy. Soon something was covering my mouth. I tried to move it off, but a strong hand took my hand and stopped it. From the sparks, I knew it was mate. I tried to focus on the people around me, but the coughing and tightness in my chest was not helping. Slowly, I could hear Robin speaking calming in my ear, “Just try breathe slowly and calmly. Let the oxygen help you breathe. Just in and out slowly, Rosa.”  I listened to her calm voice and soon my coughing had stopped the fogginess of my head disappeared. I could see three worried faces surrounding me. I tried to move, but Damon stopped me, “Let’s try to take it a bit easier. You are still pretty injured, my sweet.”  Robin continued, “Alpha is right, Luna. Your arm is healing fine but your ribs are still healing. You had some serious injuries and your healing is not working normally. It may be because you are malnourished and that’s why it is taking longer. But...” I stopped her there, with as much strength as I could muster, I pulled down the mask and spoke, “It’s not just because of that. There is more to it. And...” This time my mate stopped me and replaced the mask, I guess we were all stopping each other, “You can tell them when you aren’t having trouble breathing. I know you want to tell them now, but first you need to heal some more. Why don’t you get some rest?”  I nodded tiredly. I guess I was getting pretty tired and sleeping sounded really nice. Damon looked like he was going to get up, so I tried to grab his hand with the little strength I had left. He smiled gently, “Don’t worry. I’m not going to leave. I won’t leave you. No one in this pack will ever hurt you.”  Damon moved back on to the bed with me. He was careful of the tubes and different machines connected to me. We were in the same position as before Robin and Nigel came with the the food. I felt safe in his arms. I know that my mate told me that many times and I knew I could trust him, the Betas, and the Deltas, but the years of torture still have an imprint on the back of my mind. Hopefully things would get easier and I could live in this pack without the sense of fear. I want to be a strong Luna and I want to help as many members as I can. I smiled at him and slowly my eyes started to fall. The last thing on my mind was the feeling of being safe. Who knows what would wait in the morning.
