CHAPTER FIFTEEN Duncan turned to me and held his scythe aloft. The soft glow illuminated the narrow staircase that wound its way out of sight. “Hurry. They’re probably hungry enough to gnaw through the stones to get at us.” I pressed one hand against the wall and eased myself down the stairs. The scrabbling of our enemies receded into the foreground until it vanished altogether, leaving us alone with only the echoing sounds of our footsteps.
