CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Duncan’s shout started me from my stupor. I blinked and the glow, and the man, vanished before my eyes, along with the comfort he had brought. Panic overcame me, and I spun around and pounded my hands against the door.
“Duncan! Get me out of here!” I cast a quick look over my shoulder at where the man had stood. “Hurry!”
“Stand back!”
I reluctantly scurried away from the portal, and the next moment Duncan crashed through the entrance, scattering the wood to the far corners of the room. He caught himself and whipped his head about before his gaze landed on me.
Duncan hurried over sans scythe and grasped my shoulders. “Are you alright?”
I shook my head. “I-I don’t know. There was this guy in here, and then he just disappeared.”
