CHAPTER SEVENTEEN I rocked to and fro with the earth as the air filled with a terrible roar. Duncan whipped his head up to the tree tops as Pomo arched his back and let out a hiss. The earth quieted, but not my heart as I looked up at Duncan. “What the hell was that?” “Something large and terrible,” he replied as he stretched out his right hand. The scythe came into existence and he gripped it tightly in his fingers. “Remain here. Pomo will protect you.” I shook my head as Pomo let out a sharp hiss at him. “Pomo needs to go to Eva-” Pomo apparently agreed, because the cat shot past us and toward the house.
