Judy's Pov I stood in the middle of the room as the doctors and nurses waltzed around me. Their muddled voices felt like hallucinations singing at the back of my head. My heart thumped loudly in my chest—loud enough that I heard its hammering. There’s no way. There’s no way she’s gone. I stood frozen, staring at my mother lying unconscious on the hospital bed, an oxygen mask covering her nose. Why did I even f*****g do that? Why didn’t I pick up the call earlier? It’s my fault. I left her. I didn’t call. I walked closer to her, slowly. My shivering hands held her shoulders as I shook her unconscious body. Please, wake up. Please, wake up. “...Judy,” I heard. Hot tears streamed down my cheeks, blurring my vision. I didn’t notice the hand on my shoulders until I was pulled backward.
