Selene and her mates

Chapter 2. My world crumbles.

Selene wakes to the sound of her father's voice. He's fighting with Mike about something. I open my bedroom door to hearwhat they are saying. Mike tells my dad he can do whatever he wants to me because he was promised me. Dad tells him that I was never promised to anyone but my mate. And I'm wondering what he means by mate?! Mike tells him that I'm his mate he just knows. Dad orders Mike to leave and not return until he's calmed down. Mike gets in dad's face and tells him he'll be back in 3 months on my birthday. Now I'm scared. Dad tells Mike that if anyone but my mate marks or mates me they will die. And now I'm even more worried. I go back in my room and think about everything that was said. What did dad mean by mate that's weird, only animals have mates. And if anyone but that person does it what does that mean? Could I kill a man if he touched me.

I decide it's time to go down stairs and see dad, but I'm going to pretend I didn't hear anything. Selene says "hey dad good to have you home. I've missed you."

Dad says to her "why didn't you tell me Mike hits you? You know I would never allow that! I'm so disappointed in you Selene. Maria had to tell me what happened."

Selene told him "Mike said you knew and were okay with it. He told me you'd be mad that I didn't have enough manners and he had to discipline me. Maria didn't ever stop it so I never knew. I guess I'll go back to my room."

I thought back on everything and now I'm more curious about everything. Why was dad being so secretive about things, why hadn't he ever mentioned the mate thing before now, what is a mate, and why am I being drawn to the woods now? I feel it more than ever now. Like someone is calling me to them. I wonder what all is out there and in the world I'm not allowed to be apart of. Why does it feel like I'm supposed to be alone. I lay down in my bed and wonder what I will do when I leave. June 3rd can't get here soon enough, I'm ready to explore the world.
