Kai gasped for breath, bent over, leaning against the tree for support. His dizzy and his muscles ached. He felt a small degree of resentment at the fact that Nikolaus was hardly tired. He's not even sweating. He fought back the thought. He had to find more strength. He could not be the one to hold them back, and increase their chances of being caught. The mere thought of being recaptured gave him grim determination. He would rather die than fall in Gerald’s hands once more.
