“Every day, for the past few hundred days
I feel as if I am not really living.
An empty vessel.
A dying flower.
Withering away, little by little.
Craving the taste of water.
To nurture these roots of mine.

I came here to get away from everything….. All of the heartache, the pain, the yearning the sorrow my soul feels day in and day out. A sorrow that I can’t explain. Ever since I came out of my coma, things have been different, I have been different. They say Hawaii is good for the soul, and away from the werewolf community, which is what I need, or at least that’s what I thought until I saw her.

Gabriella
Now this was the life, sitting at the hotel pool with a clear view of the ocean. I wish I could spend every day like this, no worries, no responsibilities. “Gabs that’s called being a bum.”
“I know Penny, a beach bum, and I’d be ok with it out here.”
My wolf huffs at my comment, and lays down in my mind, also enjoying the view. I know we couldn’t live here; we have responsibilities back in California waiting for us. I link Sarah, who is in the ocean with Jaxon that I’m going to close my eyes and get a tan.
“Ok Gabs, I let Neil know, he’s in the pool and will keep an eye out for anything.”
“You know that I’m more than capable of taking care of myself.”
I didn’t wait for her to respond as I closed our link. I close my eyes, and pray to the Goddess for a restful nap, without my chronic dream.
“Come back and sit with me a while, my darling.”
The most beautiful woman I have ever seen beckons to me on top of the mountain. Next to her is a teenage boy, but I can’t see his face.
“In order to save the future, you need to learn about your past”
I sit straight up on the lounge chair; Neil drops his water and is on full alert. Sarah and Jaxon run up from the beach to see what has startled me. I give Sarah a look, she nods at me knowingly, and thankfully suggests that we all go to our rooms and get ready for dinner.
“Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I’m good, just a strange dream.”
“You tend to have those a lot.”
“What does that mean?”
Sarah stares at me like a deer in headlights. “What I mean is that we’ve been best friends all of our lives. I am also your beta; I know how to read you.”
“Let’s go shower and lounge around before we have to get ready for dinner.”
“Gabs, you act like you need to get ready. I would kill for your long brown hair and blue eyes. I mean, do you even have make-up that will match your tan?”
“An Alpha is always prepared.”

Sarah
“Sarah, you need to be more careful with what you say.”
I know my wolf is right, and I gave more information away then I meant to. Truth be told, Gabby has never shared her dreams with anyone. I hop in the shower as I replay the events of the day. I hear Gabby come into my room.
“What are you planning on wearing tonight?”
“I was thinking that since we’re just going to dinner, maybe just a sundress.”
“I’m surprised you’re not talking me into going out after dinner.”
My best friend knew me well, but truth be told, I wanted to meditate. “I know, but I figured since this is our first night, we could just take it easy before we go on other excursions.”
That seems to pacify Gabriella, as she walks out of my room. I dress, brush my hair, and teeth then lay on my bed. I have about 2 hours before our reservation, so I decide to relax and watch TV.
I have the sensation that I’m falling, and I am transported back in front of Cricket.
“I think it’s happening again”
I look in the direction she is looking, and we are back in front of Selene.
Cricket and I both bow and in unison say, “My Goddess.”
“My children, I have brought you here to prepare for the upcoming war. In order for you to guide Gabriella in the future, you need to understand the past that changed the course of her destiny.”
“How can Cricket and I help guide Gabriella and Penny? We know her past”
“Gabriella is uncovering her powers, as you saw today at the waterfall. A blessing is coming her way. You must do everything you can to help her reach her true potential. As the protector and guardian of my line re-incarnate you will be able to sense dangers, as will Gabriella and Penny. As Gabriella opens her mind and Penny opens her heart, they will uncover their gifts at an accelerated rate.”
“Why can’t we just be open with Gabby?”
“The time will come, but it is not now.”
I am jolted awake when Gabs come into my room to see if I wanted to start getting ready. Well so much for my nap.
“Sure, no problem.” I look at my phone, we have one hour before we’re meeting the warriors at the beach front restaurant at our hotel.”
Gabby starts blow drying my long blonde hair, as I organize the make-up she brought into my room.
“You know, there is a bar here. Why don’t we stay out and have a few drinks after dinner? I think it could be fun. I will release the warriors for tonight.”
“Yes!” Cricket screams in my mind. I looked at Gabby incredulously, “Are you sure? I thought you wanted it to be an early night.”
“I did, but I changed my mind. I just feel like we could have some fun before we come back to our cottage. I mean who knows, you could meet someone,” Gabby says as she smirks.
I know I’m going to regret saying yes, as I know Gabby is going to want us to run along the beach hungover or not.
“Suck it up Sarah, you know it takes a lot for us to get drunk. Plus, you have my healing abilities.”
I know Cricket is right, so I agree with Gabriella.
Why do I feel like we’re in for a crazy night?
