Cole's POV
"She's here, sir." The maid announces
"Okay, thanks." I dismiss her taking the file needed and heading downstairs to the business room.
I walk into the room and she stares at me with surprise leaving me confused. Her outfit a bit too formal for a house meeting. Her ginger red hair tightly held back into a bun, her dressing impeccable with not a single imperfection. Her brown eyes penetrating and oozing of confidence.
"Let's get to business," I smile taking a seat
She nods taking her sit back and opening a file.
"In case you're wondering, My dad won't be able to make it for this meeting because he's ill," I inform her and she replies curtly.
She might be a Capo or whatever but damn she's way too straightforward, giving short replies and not a hint of smile on her face although she's really smart and I can tell she is a talented leader.
"It's a pleasure doing business with you Miss. De La Rosa," I smile shaking her firm hand.
"It's Mrs. De La Rosa," She corrects me, I raise an eyebrow before she raises her left hand up to show me her ring which glimmers in the sunlight and I nod in understanding.
She packs up her files before heading for the door.
"Please do send my regards to Mr. Wilson," She tells me before walking out.
"Sure,"
She might be a lady but she is intimidating but I can't find her intimidating after all I have been in this business longer than she has.
A frown forms on my face as I recall my dad telling me her husband is dead so I wonder why she's still wearing a ring.
Maybe, my dad, had it all mixed up but if so why was she the one in charge of the mafia? Maybe her husband is ill.
Shrugging I walk out of the room and I notice my mom talking to Mrs. De La Rosa and I shake my head. My mom being a social and nice person can't help but engage in conversations with just about anyone.
I hear footsteps from the stairs and I notice my dad descend the stairs.
"Dad, you're not feeling too good." I walk over to him
"I'm better." He states firmly
"Well, where are you going?" I inquire
"I want to see Miss. De La Rosa." He tells me and I lead him to where my mom is engaging her in a conversation.
We get close enough and I hear my mom speaking to her in Spanish. My mom studied in Spain, where she and my dad met. She came back to America with my dad to settle down. Apparently my father's dad didn't approve of the marriage but when he discovered her parents were also a part of the mafia he readily agreed.
I look back at Mrs. De La Rosa when she replies with an equally smooth accent. I stare at her back shocked. I guess she is Spanish, I should have thought about her name.
"Mr. Wilson," She smiles when we finally get close enough
"Mrs. De La Rosa, so nice to finally meet the great woman who made a powerful empire." My dad praises her and she smiles again probably proud of her accomplishment
"Thank you," she replies
"Why don't you stay for lunch?" My mom interjects smiling
"Ah, Mrs. Wilson I think it's better I leave." She replies
"It's just lunch, Mrs. De La Rosa, We can talk about business prospects." My dad informs her
She weighs her options before replying with a smile "Sure."
"Wonderful," My mom claps happily
"Excuse me for a moment." She smiles stepping into the lobby
"I'll go back upstairs now," My dad states heading for the stairs, my mom and I nod to him before he leaves.
"When is Tanya going to be back?" My mom asks me
"I don't know, I'll call her."
"Well, tell her to make it in time for lunch," Mom tells me
"Sure," I tell her heading upstairs
Sitting on my bed I bury my face in my hands groaning in frustration.
I have a lot of work to do and Austin being away in Russia doing some business leaves me to handle the rest here.
Remembering what Mom told me, I stand up and walk towards the desk at the side of the large room. Picking up my phone I dial Tanya's number and she doesn't pick up. Taking a quick cold shower I step out wrapping the towel around my waist. I pick up my phone and there are three missed calls from Tanya.
Calling her back again, she picks up this time.
"Hey baby," She laughs a little too loud and I roll my eyes
"Are you okay?" I question her picking up a paper that fell from my desk
"I'm fine," She assures me laughing again
She's definitely not okay.
"Are you drunk?" I ask annoyed
"Of course not! It's just two pm!" She screeches
"Whatever," I roll my eyes, "Mom said you should be here before lunch so I suggest you head home now, or I can call the driver to come pick you up."
"Send a driver please,"
"Okay, tell me where you are so I can send your location to him,"
She explains where she is to me and I narrate the exact same thing to the driver before he leaves.
Five minutes later the maid comes to my room to announce lunch time. Walking into the dining room I notice Tanya isn't here yet. Taking a seat next to my father I take a look at the dishes on the table.
"Where is Tanya?" My mom asks me walking into the dining along with Mrs. De La Rosa.
Mrs. De La Rosa takes a seat opposite me and I stare at her before looking back at my mom.
"She's on her way," I state
"Okay then." My mom says taking a seat next to my dad
"So Mrs. De La Rosa, How do you find the mafia?" My dad inquires
"It's okay," She smiles briefly putting some shrimp in her plate
"Ah, I'm sure it's exhausting," My mom butts in smiling
"Not really," She smiles back
"Ah, Mrs. De La Rosa hope these American small mafias aren't too much of a trouble," My dad adds and I eat my food quietly, trying to ignore their conversation
"Please call me Davina," She smiles at him
"Ahh, such a wonderful name." My dad nods
"Indeed." My mom adds
I can't tell if my parents are trying to butter her up or they are trying to make her feel comfortable. If they are trying to make her comfortable they are doing a horrible job.
Her name doesn't sound like a typical Spanish name, maybe she is an American.
"Thanks," She smiles "And I must say I love your house very discreet in location also a very tactical move,"
"Yes, yes thank you," My dad smiles "I mean it's really unnoticeable to outsiders since one would think it's just a bunch of bushes,"
"Indeed, I was confused, I thought there was nothing beyond the bushes, I really am impressed,"
"The pleasure is all mine," My dad smiles
After an array of boring conversations between my mom, dad and Mrs De La Rosa lunch is finally over.
"I'll take my leave now," She smiles
"Is your driver here?" My dad questions
"Not yet but I'll call him," She informs my dad
She doesn't stay too long before she leaves. A small knock on my room door detaches my attention from the files I was looking at.
"Come in!" I call out and Tanya walks in
"You're late," I shrug "Mom wanted you to meet our guest,"
"That's weird," She sits on my bed "Why?"
"I don't know," I turn my attention back to the files
"Is she mad at me?" She inquires
"I don't think so," I shrug
"Good," she breathes "What are you doing?"
"Work," I state
"C'mon let's go have some fun!" She groans lying on my bed
"I'm really busy today T," I tell her not taking my face away from the papers.
I wonder what John is up to this time, he's always making things harder for us. If I don't get this right dad is gonna be so mad. I should probably have the store reloaded with ammunition, new guns, and cocaine. Damn, I hope Austin can handle Russia.
"We're just gonna swim, besides the pool is right outside!" she groans
"Okay right after I finish this one, so please just sit there quietly and don't make a single noise please." I sigh before turning my attention back to the scattered papers in front of me.
"When is Austin gonna be back?" Tanya asks me
"Probably tomorrow," I comment sitting on the recliner next to her
"I miss him," She sighs
I look over at her before focusing on the pool in front of me. Tanya is our little sister who is sometimes a bit too much. Austin is my older brother and he's a lot closer to Tanya than I am even though he's a bit too serious for my liking.
"Who was the guest anyway," Tanya speaks up after a while of silence
"Just some mafia associate." I shrug
"And she wanted me to meet her," My sister points out in confusion
"Yeah,"
"But why?" her frown deepens
"Maybe because she was a woman and she wanted both of you to bond," I try to conclude
"Really?" she questions her eyes showing her surprise
"Like she's the Capo?" she questions
"Yeah, Capo di tutti," I correct her
"Wow."
"I know," I tell her
"That's crazy," she breathes
"When are you going back home?"
"Maybe tomorrow, I still have a few things to discuss with dad,"
"Okay," she leans back in the recliner "we better make the most of this pool then,"
