Emotions

3rd POV Vaylerix felt a magical disturbance the ley lines like a small tremor, but he also felt an emotional disturbance, like a fireball went off in a crowded plaza. Something was wrong, something called out to him, all he could feel was agony and sorrow, it was strangely familiar. He needed to go see what was happening. He reflexively lifted his hand to open a silver portal. There was a knock at the door.  "Vaylerix? It's Belinda, may I come in?" came her dulcet voice through the door. Vaylerix, turned and opened the door. Belinda walked inside.  "Oh, did I interrupt something?" she asked. "I don't have time to give you a full explanation. But I must go, there is something very wrong, and I must attend to it. Thank you for all that you have done for me. I am not sure when I will return, but I will return. So please hold on to these for me," he said handing her the sapphire and the diamond she had returned to him. He leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. He could see the confusion and sadness in her face, the tears welling up in her eyes. It pained him to abandon his new friend and companion, but he had to go. Belinda screwed up her courage and looked at Vaylerix. She had been on the receiving end of heartache enough to know what was happening.  "Goodbye, Vaylerix. You were never meant to be mine. You are too beautiful for me to hold on to, though I want to be selfish and keep you all to myself. I have only known you this short time, but you will always hold a special place in my heart and memory. I wish you only joy and happiness, my friend," said Belinda fighting back her tears.  She quickly embraced him and placed a goodbye kiss on his cheek. While she pulled away from the hug, she slipped the cash she acquired for the coins in one of his pockets. She headed for the door and she turned and glanced at him over her shoulder once more before seeing herself out. He wanted to stop her, but he knew he had to let her go. There was something else, somewhere nearby that needed him more.  He felt the twinge of a thread, it pulled like a sweater unraveling, something nagging, snagged in his mind, that pull became pain. This pain, what was it, it winded him, nearly knocking him off his feet causing him to raise a hand to his gut. Whatever it was, it belted him good from an inkling to a hard-solid blow. Stumbling he threw up a hand creating a portal to draw him through, he dared pull on the thread, silently demanding that it take him to the source. His head was splitting, but more than that it was something raking at the edge of his soul. What in the hells could do such a thing? He stepped through the portal. He found himself standing in an unfamiliar room. There was a  startlingly large blood stain on the sandstone carpet, a woman was fighting back tears as she attempted to clean the blood, and a wretched stench assaulted his senses. He stumbled forward towards the woman, falling to his knees while he pulled her into his embrace. Catching an odd sight out of the corner of his eyes he glanced up at Max.  In a painful, puzzled voice, he croaked, "Max?! What is going on?!" Vaylerix was physically shaking at this point, and pressed Laura tighter to his chest. "Vaylerix?" said Max softly. Laura craned her head to look up at the man holding her and said, "Vaylerix, what?!" "Laura?! Max?!" said Vaylerix bemused. Vaylerix loosened his hold on Laura to bring his right hand to his forehead and let out a painful groan. In his head, a battle between the forcefully forgotten past and the present waged while the past with equal force reclaimed its territory.  "Where is the infant?" he spoke in a strained voice. "The baby didn't survive. I was clearing up the mess when you picked me up," said Laura her lips quivering. "No, can't you can't you smell it?" he groaned. "Smell what?" asked Laura. "The d-d-demon that b-b-burned her ma-majesty," he stammered out in pain. "She was here," he sighed. "Are you telling me this was Lama's doing?!" asked Max in horror. "Her scent is everywhere. She has been here," said Vaylerix. "I can't smell it, but I don't doubt you," said Max. "We need to purify this place," said Vaylerix. "Everything the blood has touch must go. It must be purified to remove her anchor," said Vaylerix. He reluctantly released Laura from his arms. Laura and Max set off to gather up everything that had come in contact with Mimi's blood. Max went to work cutting out the carpet that had blood on it. Just to be safe he pulled up the wood flooring beneath. He moved the couch out front and started piling all the tainted items on it. While Max and Laura worked, Vaylerix's mind wandered through his newly recovered memories. After a time, Laura approached Vaylerix. She lightly tapped his shoulder, bring him out of his thoughts. "Vaylerix, I believe we have gathered everything outside. Is there anything else you need before you start the purification?" she asked. "Yes, we need the queen, her knight, and anything else that may have been tainted by the blood," he said solemnly.  Laura hesitated, then released a soft sigh. She knew that he was right. But the thought of disturbing Sebbastian and Mimi was very daunting. Laura looked at Vaylerix and gave him a knowing nod. She reached up and placed her hand on the side of his face, and said, "I am so glad that you have returned to us after all these years." She stroked his cheek bone with her thumb before tracing her index finger along his jawline then withdrew her hand from his face. In that moment, that simple gesture unlocked another set of memories that had been repressed and forgotten for the last 23 years. It was Laura's pain and anguish that had called to him. Laura was Vaylerix's mate. His mind couldn't remember, but his magic and his body couldn't forget. That is why he felt the overwhelming compulsion to come when called. The floodgates of his heart and memory opened, and the waves crashed against his consciousness without mercy. How could I forget my beautiful little vixen?! I am never wiping my own memory again!
