CHAPTER TWENTY Brooke Taylor was blindfolded, then led away. She had been taken up some stairwells and down others, and along straight and winding corridors. It was an old trick. Use disorientation, so that the person has no idea how large the building is, or whether they are up fourteen storeys or deep underground. If she had escaped, she would have had no idea where to run, meanwhile giving ample time for her captors to find her. Eventually, they stopped, and she heard a heavy metal door being opened. She was led in, and then the door slammed behind her. Brooke ripped off the blindfold and stood ready. She was alone. The sudden brightness of the light stung her eyes.
