Evelyn: Chapter Six

2211 Words
Evelyn My stomach was in knots, think of how Maddy and Wyatt went off into the woods alone, holding hands. I wanted this. This was supposed to happen. It was okay. But why was I feeling so jealous? We were eventually going to have to share a male, whether it was Wyatt or not, so I shouldn't feel jealous. Right? I huffed and turned back to my friends from school. "Ew...is Wyatt really hanging out with Madison?" I turn to look at Holly and glare. "Yeah, he is. What of it?" She raises her eyebrows at me and purses her lips. "I thought you were banging him. You know...you don't have to share everything with her before you get mated, right?" I frown at her. "I find it's best to start now. We're going to have to share anyways, so what does it matter?" She wrinkles her upturned nose and turns to Belinda next to her. "I just think it's kind of gross. I can't imagine having my sister all over my man." "He's not my man. We're not together. Wyatt can be with whomever he wants and so can I." Holly smirks and flips her auburn hair over her shoulder. "Prove it. You haven't been with anyone since middle school, Eve." I roll my eyes and flip my short hair behind my ear. "Just because I can doesn't mean I want to. All of the boys in the pack are either taken or disgustingly immature." Holly shakes her head with her smirk. "I'm just saying, Evelyn, you should test the waters before you get stuck with some dud. Because even though you think you and Wyatt are mates, doesn't mean that it's true. Your birthday is still a week away." I take a sip of my drink and shake my head. "When a male attracts my attention, I will act. Until then, I'm good." Belinda snickers and looks around at the party, poorly lit by twinkling lights. "Where's Ronan? I was hoping he was here. He promised me a good time last time." I curl my lip in disgust and shudder. I loved Ronan, but I felt oddly protective of him and I didn't like the thought of Belinda getting her claws in him. "He's with the Fae again this week." "Ugh. Those weirdos are going to end up making him mate with one of their own. Can you imagine it? A Fae as our Luna? Yuck." I glare at her and shake my head. "We already have a Fae as our Luna, Belinda. Luna Connor." Belinda waves me away as if I said something stupid and sucked her drink down through a straw. "He doesn't count. He's still a wolf. I'm talking about a full Fae. Cause think about it. Have you seen Ronan ever date anyone from our pack? He hooks up with girls every now and then. But he's never been in a relationship with anyone." I think back on all of the years I've known Ronan and frown. "You're right. He hasn't been in a relationship. Weird." "Yeah, my theories are that he's waiting on you and Maddy to turn eighteen and figure out Wyatt isn't your mate then strike. Or he's in love with a Fae girl and dates her when he's with them." I growl low in my chest. "Ronan doesn't think of Maddy and I like that. We're friends." Holly laughs and pushes my shoulder lightly. "Yeah, and you're friends with Wyatt Daniels, yet you suck his c*ck like a lollipop in your free time." My face burns and I turn to see if anyone heard what she was saying. Her and Belinda were the only people that knew about the stuff I did with Wyatt. And now Maddy. But it didn't mean I wanted it announced to the whole pack. "Jeez, lower your damn voice, Holly." I look around, knowing my dad probably sent some of the younger warriors to keep an eye on Maddy and I. She laughs and then quiets down when the guy she liked from school saunters over and begins chatting with her. Belinda gets pulled into a beer pong game so I hang back and look around. I have an urge to go looking for Wyatt and Maddy, but I don't want to interrupt them if they're doing something. After a few more sips of my beer and nearly getting trampled by a few guys throwing a ball around, I give up on giving them privacy and go in the direction they headed. I gran a couple of canned beers in case if they need a refill and meander off into the woods. I find them quickly at our boulder and smile as I see Wyatt's arm slung over Maddy's shoulder. I take my shoes off and put them next to theirs as I make my way over and smile when they spot me and grin. "Hey. You two look cozy." "There's room for one more." Wyatt lifts his other arm and I grin as I climb up onto the boulder and snuggle into his side. I hand over the beers and they thank me. "So, what are you two doing out here? Making out, I hope?" Even in the dark, I can make out Maddy's blush and she shakes her head and rolls her eyes. "No. Just talking. And you? Where's your entourage?" I scowl and shrug. "They're being extra b*tchy tonight. I figured I'd hang with two of my favorite people instead." Wyatt grins and presses his lips to my forehead. "Good. Now I've got both of my favorite people here. All we're missing is Ro." Maddy nods and I agree. "F*ck, I'm hungry." Wyatt laments after we sit in silence for a bit. I hear his stomach grumbling and I grin widely. "Didn't you eat before you came?" "Yeah, but I'm hungry again. You two wanna ditch and go to my mom's diner?" "Are you going to share?" He snorts and shakes his head. "Not even a little bit." Maddy smiles and shakes her head. We end up at Danny's, the diner Wyatt's mom owns and practically lives at since she had it built when Salem was old enough to start going to school. Our table is full of the greasiest and sweetest of foods available at the diner and we can't stop laughing at old stories of us getting into sh*t when we were kids. "Remember when Wyatt snuck into Dad's office to steal back your phone when you got into trouble for exploding the science classroom with your experiments?" I throw a fry at Maddy and she grins and nods. "Yeah, Dad was so pissed and pulled Wyatt out by his ear. But he didn't even notice that he had my phone in his pocket." We laugh and Wyatt looks the happiest I have seen him in a while. I lean against him and he turns to look at me with a small smile. "Remember when my mom caught you and Maddy trying on her dresses and shoes so that we could pretend to go to our mating ceremony?" I blush as I glance over at Jocelyn standing at the counter. She's smiling across the counter at her husband who is shoveling his face with food. "Yeah. She ended up helping us do our makeup and then got into a face off with Dad when he got mad over it. He said we were too young to even be thinking about having mates." Maddy slurps her milkshake and steals a fry from Wyatt's plate while he's looking at me and winks my way. "Yeah." I look around the diner, feeling oddly at peace. I wasn't having fun at the party and I wonder if maybe I'm just getting older, maturing. I'm suddenly overwhelmed with the sadness at how everything could change in just a week. Wyatt might not be a part of our lives. We have lived so much of our lives intertwined and I never wanted to lose this feeling. I take a deep shaky breath and feel Wyatt's large hand on my back. Maddy nudges me under the table with her foot and I look over at them and try to smile. "What's wrong?" "Nothing. I just...I love this. This feeling right now. The easy way we can all be here with eachother. I just...I never want to lose this. Us. You know?" Maddy slides out of the booth and moves to my other side. She hugs me hard and I inhale her coconut and banana scent. Wyatt hugs me on my other side and I close my eyes, bathing in their love. "What brought this on?" Maddy asks me. "Holly and Belinda were...they said some stuff and it pissed me off." "B*tches." Wyatt snorts in my hair and I shove him off with a laugh. Maddy holds me at an arms length and looks me over. Her face is clear without makeup and her long hair is pulled up into a messy bun. It reminds me to wipe under my eyes so I don't get my makeup everywhere and I run my hands through my shoulder length hair to fix it. "What did they say? I sigh and flip my hand and roll my eyes. "Just reminding me that us being all together isn't a sure thing." Wyatt sighs and leans back against the booth. "It doesn't matter. We will always be friends, no matter what, right?" I turn to him and nod. "Yeah, as long as your mate allows it." "Or yours?" He counters with a quirked eyebrow. I scowl and nod. "Yeah, I guess." "But let's not even think about tonight. Let's just have fun and forget about all of the mates and political bullsh*t." "Political?" "Him and Dad." Maddy answers before she moves back to her spot on his other side. She begins eating, taking stuff off of Wyatt's plate as he watches her. He doesn't lunge at her or even growl like he usually does. Just smiles. I watch them and sit back and finish my milkshake. When I'm down to the bottom, Wyatt pushes his to me and I raise my eyebrows at him. "You're sharing?" "Just don't get used to it. And don't tell Ro. He'll try to take advantage." I snort and take his milkshake feeling lighter as we finish eating. When we get back to the packhouse, I'm in a better mood than I was before and I can't help myself when I tiptoe and press my lips against Wyatt's. He doesn't hesitate as he kisses me back, pulling me close, his tongue exploring my mouth. When I pull away, he grins at me and we both turn to Maddy, who's waiting at the door to the Alpha Quarters, her cheeks blazing red. Kiss him. I urge her through mind link. She freezes with her eyes wide. What if I'm not good at it? Just do it. I promise he won't care. She takes a deep breath and swallows hard as she steps up to him. He raises his eyebrows at her but doesn't stop her when she places her hands on his shoulders. He watches her with lust in his gaze and I feel my cheeks burn. I also feel a twinge of jealousy, but I push it back. She deserves this. And I have to learn to share. This will be our future whether it's with him or not. She closes her eyes and leans into him. I watch as he leans into her and presses his lips against hers. I bite my lip, excited for my sister as she finally gets her first kiss. Open your mouth. I urge her. I watch as she does as I say and I bite my lip and bounce on my heels. Then its all ruined when the door is thrown open and Dad steps out. Maddy pulls away from Wyatt quickly, her eyes wide and her cheeks pink. Wyatt takes a deep breath and back away from her as my dad steps out and glares at Wyatt. "Inside, girls. Time for bed." But I don't move. Because I feel Dad's aura pressing down on me and I wince. Wyatt stands face to face, toe to toe with my dad, his face set in a cold, dark mask. "Now." My dad snaps as he glances at Maddy and I. Maddy ducks in the door and I whimper as I move past my dad and his oppressive aura. I watch from the door as they continue to glare at eachother and all I can think is that Wyatt needs to submit. He needs to stop antagonizing my dad and submit yo his power. But he doesn't. He just continues his stare off with my dad until Dad nods and squares his jaw. "Goodnight, Wyatt." "Goodnight, Alpha." Dad walks in and snaps the door shut. I can see the fury boiling right under his skin. "Go to bed girls." He moves past us without another glance and I look at Maddy. She looks back at me and presses her lips together. "We should go to bed." "Yeah." But I can't stop thinking of their face off and what it could mean in the future.
